Course Description:
Welcome to Geometry Support! I am looking forward to a fun and successful year with all of you. The goal of this class is to strengthen your skills in Geometry and general math. Most importantly, this course is designed to drive you toward and prepare you for college. We will learn how to study and think like college mathematicians. We will hear from guest speakers, research colleges, and most importantly learn how to get in. Along with preparing for the EOCT, we will be preparing for the ACT. Everyone will take both tests at the end of the year. I expect every student to come to class on time, prepared, and ready to work. If you do, you WILL succeed in my class. I will make sure of it.

Classroom Expectations Homework:

In math, practice makes perfect. Repetition is key. In class, we will introduce new topics and learn them to the best of our abilities. You will tattoo these concepts to your brain by practicing at home. We will have homework everyday. It will count for 15% of your grade and it is my expectation that you will give it your best effort everyday. If you do, you WILL be successful in my class. I PROMISE! Thus, not doing your homework is unacceptable. If a student misses two consecutive homework assignments, the student will receive lunch detention and afterschool detention. Also, we will set up a parentteacher phone call.

Absence Policy:
All important assignments will be posted online. If a student is absent from class, all missed assignments must be turned in on the day the student returns (as well as the homework due that day).

Late Work:
I dont accept late work.

Tardy Policy:
Tardiness will not be tolerated. Tardy students must have a signed pass from a teacher or administrator in order to be excused. If not, the student will have to serve a 30 minute detention.

Cheating:
Cheating will not be tolerated. Cheating on any assignment will result in an automatic zero (0%) and parents will be notified. Cheating during a test includes: looking at someone elses test, using notes, using any form of a cheat sheet, letting someone else look at your test, telling anyone answers before, during or after a test. Cheating on homework includes: copying someone elses work, allowing someone to copy your work.

GEOMETRY SUPPORT CLASS EXPECTATIONS

Bathroom Policy:
You will receive 3 passes. You must use a pass each time you leave class to go to the bathroom, water fountain, or for any other reason. You may not leave the classroom until the lesson is finished and we are working on independent work. If you want to use your pass, you must raise your hand and I will tell you if you can go or not. You may use any leftover passes at the end of the semester to boost any test grade by 3 points. If you use up the passes, you can ask to go to the bathroom in exchange for coming in for tutoring for at least 30 minutes.

Food/Drinks:
Only water in a bottle is allowed in the classroom. If I notice food/drink in my class the choice is: put it away or throw it away.

Cell Phones:
Cell phones are not allowed in class. They must be put away, silent, and out of sight during class.

Detention Policy
Detention is not fun. You will more than likely be cleaning or moving boxes. I expect each student to serve his or her detention on the day that I assign it. If there is an extenuating circumstance, it possibly can be moved to the next day. If it is not served on time, I will contact the students parent and the student will now serve two detentions. If those are not served on time, the student will be referred to administration.

Preparing for the ACT College Admissions Test

In this class, all students will be preparing for the ACT Test. All students will take the ACT on April 13, 2013. This is mandatory. (The registration deadline for this test is March 8, 2013). We will be studying ACT math material and general test-taking strategies in class. We will take practice tests and track our progress. You will be more than prepared by April. The goal is for you to be ahead of the game going in to your junior year. You will have plenty of time to retake the test before applying to college and students generally do better on the exam the second and third time around. Keep in mind that colleges do not care about the number of times you take the test. They only look at your highest score!

Class Core Values

Our core values are the Five Principles that guide everything we do in this classroom. They shape the way I teach. They will shape the way you learn. I believe so strongly in these core values that I believe that they should shape the way we live our lives. They are as follows: 1.) Do the right thing. 2.) Respect others. 3.) Honor commitments and be accountable. 4.) Ensure quality and seek growth. 5.) Leave your class, your school, and yourSELF better today than they were yesterday.

After School Tutorials

I am here to make sure that you succeed. I am willing to stay after school as often as it takes to ensure that happens. As of now, I will hold tutorials from 4:00PM 5:00PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays but if at anytime you feel like you need extra help, I am

MORE than willing to schedule extra tutorial time for you.

My Promise
I know that we are all coming into this class with very different experience in math. Some of us love it and some of us hate. Many of us are floating somewhere in between. I cannot control what type of math experience you have had in the past. I can only control what goes on inside of room K-112 during this school year. I promise that if you come to class prepared each day and work as hard as you possibly can, you will be successful in this class and your grade will reflect that.

By signing below, I am indicating that I have read the mathematics syllabus. I understand the policies and consequences listed in it.
