Configuration includes:
programming units in the C-8us RF Wireless System
adding units to the network
creating a repeater network
grouping buttons
creating timers

performing unit and factory resets
Configure wireless units using Learn mode or, for more flexibility, use C-8us
Toolkit configuration software.
Two Options for Programming the Clipsal RF System
There are two options for programming units in the C-8us RF W ireless system.
The method used depends upon the number of units and complexity of the
system. This manual describes the first method only.
1. Leam Mode: C-8us RF Wireless Learn Mode is a simple, manual method
of programming C-8us RF Wireless Systems. Learn Mode is used for small
networks with basic functionality, or a quick start-up of a network.
Toolkit Software: C-8us Toolkit is a software program that allows an
installer to configure the C-8us RF Wireless Network with greater
functionality, and enables the configuration to be saved as a project file.
Additional equipment, incl uding a Wireless Gateway, C-8us Power Supply,
and PC I nterface are required to use the software.

Network Range and limitations
Creating a Network
Relay and Dimmer Wireless Plug Adaptors
Instruction Bulletin
The RF Wireless Network's range may be limited by obstructions, RF
interference, or distance. To enable two devices on the same RF wireless
network to communicate vvhen limitations exist, the repeater function on any
device can be enabled. (See "Enabling a Repeater').
All units on one network need the same network address (also called a house
code). One or more units can be added to a network. One unit is designated to
transmit a house code to all other units selected to be on a network. Follow the
steps in the table below to create a network.

Care and Cleaning Instructions
Follow the precautions below to properly dean and care for the unit.
Clean regularly using a soft lint free cloth.
Only use a mild, non-abrasive cleaner such as window cleaner lightl y
sprayed onto the lint free cloth to clean the unit .
Ensure hands are dry and clean before operating the unit.

Unit Reset
Memory Feature
63249-420309A1
09/2009
The unit reset clears a C-Bus Wireless unit to its original factory default
settings. This is recommended when making the unit part of a new network
(when changing from a single to multiple network installation)
To reset a unit back to its factory default state:
1. Confirm the unit is not in Learn Mode. (The leam LED is off when the unit is
not in Learn Mode.)
2. Press the Clear button. The Learn LED turns red and the LEO indicators
blink to indicate the unit is ready to dear.
3. Press and hold the Clear button for approximately 5 seconds until the LED
indicators stay on for one second, then tum OFF.
4. Release the Clear button. The unit is reset.
NOTE: Unit reset removes al/ button programming and the unit reverts back to
its original factory default settings. The unit is no longer associated with a
network.

All C-8us units have on-board non-volatile memory that is used to store the
operating state in case of line power loss. After a power outage, the C-Bus
Wireless Unit restores its on/off and dimmer level states according to the states
before the power outage. Restoration occurs approximately 10 to 20 seconds
after power resumes.
The unit's memory also stores operating states when units are turned off using
keypad buttons. This allows a dimmer to revert to the previously set dimming
[evel when it is turned back on.

Enabling a Repeater
Relay and Dimmer Wireless Plug Adaptors
Instruction Bulletin
If units on a network are unable to communicate, a repeater is enabled to
extend the range of the network. The unit with the repeater function enabled
receives and transmits other units' messages so that two devices out of range
from each other can communicate. Messages can be repeated through a
maximum of four units with repeater functions activated. See example below.

Repeaters can be enabled at anytime without affecting a unit's previous
programming.
To enable a repeater:
1. Choose the unit closest to the unit having communication problems to tum
on the repeater function.
2. Press the Learn button to activate [earn mode on the chosen unit.
3. Double quick press the Clear button. The Learn LED changes from red to
blue to indicate that repeater function is activated.
4. Press the Leam button to exit leam mode.
VVhen you activate learn mode on a unit 'Nith the repeater function enabled, the
Learn LED is blue. To disable the repeater function on the unit, repeat the
steps above. The Learn LED returns to red when the repeater function is
disabled.
If enabling a repeater function resolves communication issues, leave the
repeater activated on that unit. If communication is still unreliable, activate the
repeater function on one or two other units. Networks work best when no more
than 3 or 4 units per network have the repeater function activated.

Grouping Buttons Together
63249-420-309A1
09/2009
Group two or more buttons from different wireless units on the same network
together to control a load from different locations. This is useful, for example, if
you wanted to tum ON a lamp from a wall switch across the room. After the
buttons on the lamp's plug adaptor, and on the wall switch are grouped
together, the occupant can turn on the light using the lamp or wall switch.
NOTE: If a VVireless Plug Adaptor is already programmed, refer to the "Unit
Reset" section to clear the local control button to its original default state
before grouping buttons together.
1. Press the Learn button on one of the units about to be grouped.
2. Press the button to be grouped on the same unit (On the Wireless Plug
Adaptor this is the local control button). The Learn LED flashes during
transmission. This may take a few seconds, The Learn LED turns on for all
units in the network.
3. Press the buttons on the other units to be grouped together. For each
button added to the group, the button's LED indicator 'Nill turn on.
4. Press the Learn button on any grouped unit to exit learn mode.

After adding buttons to a group, the user can set the local control button to
work as a timer. The user may also want to assign one or more than one
button in the group as a timer. Additional timers are applied to trigger a timer
from a seperate location, or have a longer timer duration associated with a
button
1. Confirm Learn Mode is enabled. The Learn LEO is ON lNhen enabled.
2. Quick press the local control button on the plug adaptor. The button's LED
and load tum ON . This may take several seconds.
3. Press and hold the local control button again until the LED indicator double
flashes once per second. Every double-flash increases the timer by
5-minutes.
NOTE: Hold the local control button for less than one second (before the LED
indicator double flashes) to set the timer for 5 seconds. A 5 second timer is
useful for testing, for example to see if a light is connected to the timer.
4. Count the double-flashes and release the button once the count
corresponds with the desired timer period. See the "Using Timers" table
below. The button's LED single-flashes to indicate the button is now a
timer.
Push the Learn Mode button to exit .
6. Push the local control button to start the timer. The LED flashes,

duration of the timer resets. Refer to the ''Using Timers" table.
NOTE: If a buffon is added to a group of buffons that already have timers, the
timers must be reassigned. Adding a button to the group wifl delete all timer
settings.
A scene is a series of actions perfonned across multiple output devices by
preSSing a single button. The Wireless Plug Adaptor can be linked to scenes
created in other devices. Refer to the "Creating a Scene" section of the tIC_Bus
