Susan emphasizes a kind approach to art making, not putting pressure on herself
or her drawings. With Susan as your guide, youll improve your artistic eye and
drawing skills at a realistic speed and develop as a draftsman in impressive ways.
Susan Lyon studied painting at the Academy of Art, in Chicago, and was an active participant
in Chicagos 100-year-old Palette and Chisel Club, where she began exhibiting her work.
At the age of 23 she was the youngest winner of the Clubs prestigious Gold Medal for
two consecutive years. In 1998 and 2000 she won an artist choice award in the Northwest
Rendezvous Show. She is a member of the Northwest Rendezvous Group, in Helena, Montana,
and has been published numerous times, including Visions and VoyagesThe Art of Susan Lyon
(2008). Susan lives in rural North Carolina with her husband, artist Scott Burdick.
Known for her all-around artistic knowledge, Susan walks you through the
step-by-step process of drawing a portrait with the eye of an artist. Whether
youre using pastel pencil as Susan demonstrates, or graphite or charcoal, youll
be mesmerized by the skill level and composition created.
