Tutorial AC Machines-1

A 415 V, 50 Hz, 2-pole, 2750 rpm, delta-connected squirrel-cage induction motor has the following
parameters referred to the stator:
R1 = 1.5 , R2 = 0.5 , X1 = j6 and XM = j120
The full-load rotor copper loss of the motor is given as 200 W. The motor is use to drive a fan load.
The motor speed is controlled by stator voltage control and runs at rated speed at rated voltage.
Determine:
(i) The full-load torque
(ii) The maximum torque developed and its slip at which it is occurred
(iii) The terminal voltage when the motor is running at 2000 rpm
(iv) The Starting current at nominal input voltage

A:
(i) The full-load torque

A PWM type inverter drive for a 3-phase, 2-pole induction motor rated for 25 HP, 415
V, 50 Hz supplies an output current of 10 A rms line current at 0.80 power factor at
200 V, 25 Hz.

(a) If the inverter is 85 percent efficient under this condition, find the DC link mean
current when the inverter is supplied from a 440 V, 3-phase supply.
(b) If the motor efficiency is 80 percent and its slip speed is 50 rpm, determine the
torque provided by the motor to the load. (7.18Nm)
