Sewer / Stormwater Overflow Monitoring and Alarm System

Every water authority has experienced the issue of a sewer overflow at some stage. Spills can now be prevented and blockages detected early with the sewer overflow monitoring and alarm device called Blok-Aid. How does it work? By installing Blok-Aid in sewer or stormwater manholes, high sewer and stormwater levels can be detected as the level rises. An alarm is then automatically activated which identifies the manhole either through the Supervisory Control and Acquisition Data (SCADA) system or direct to a mobile phone or email address. Field maintenance can then be dispatched to rectify the situation before a spill occurs. With a 10 year battery life and the ability to configure the unit from your desktop, Blok-Aid is low voltage and completely sealed, so not only do you have peace of mind that your network is being monitored, but the device is certified Intrinsically Safe (IS).

Installation
The main unit is installed on the side wall within the manhole, as close to the surface of the entrance, without interfering with manhole access and closing of the manhole cover. The float switches must NOT be positioned within the pipe flow, which may result in improper operations and even possible damage to the float switches as horizontal forces in the flow will cause the floats to knock against the concrete manhole walls.

Operation
1. Once the water level starts to rise, the float will start to tilt. (H1 float switch is referenced in the third example above). 2. When the water level reaches the top of the cable weight, the float switch reaches its threshold tilt angle. 3. When the float threshold tilt angle is maintained for approximately 30 seconds or more, ALARM STATE will be reached, a Text Message (SMS) will be sent from the unit to pre-defined Cell phone number(s) at the STP SCADA BaseStation. 4) BaseStation will then process and broadcast the relevant information to the assigned STP staff. 5) When the water level subsides and float tilt angle drops below threshold, RETURN TO STATE will be reached, another Text Message (SMS) will be sent.
