Item Takeoff View

The !tem Takeoff view is the first of three views in WinEst. !t's designed for ease of
use during the takeoff phase.

When you click the !tem Takeoff button, notice that the buttons to the right of the
3 Nain view buttons are setup primarily for use during takeoff. The Estimate Info
button is for entering basic information on the estimate. The Add !tems button
opens the database browser so you can find items you want in your estimate. The
Unique !tem button is used for entering items that are not in the database.

The area called Calculate Takeoff Quantity" is commonly used during takeoff.
There is also an area called Estimate Tables" where you can assign WBS codes to
items.

!n this view, items are sorted in the order of the takeoff. The last item you add to
the estimate will display at the bottom of the list.

Estimate Sheet View

The Estimate Sheet view is the second view in WinEst. !t's designed to narrow
down your estimate in different ways - the ReportingJAnalyzing view. When
you click on the Estimate Sheet button, the buttons to the right all point to filters".
When in the estimate sheet view, you are always viewing a filter.

Clicking on the Unit Prices button brings up all of the items in the estimate and sorts
them by the CS! codes. The information displayed is the unit prices for each item.
Clicking on the Labor button shows only the items in the estimate that have labor
costs. Clicking on the Naterials button shows only items with material costs. The
Alerts buttons calls a filter that displays a user defined onfoff status. The
!ncomplete button calls a filter that displays items without quantities

Lecture Database Structure - Division, Major, Minor and Item Codes

First let's look at the layout of !tems in a WinEst database - this view shows the items
arranged by the traditional 16 Division CS! (Construction Specifications !nstitute) Structure
- the top 3 boxes from left to right are the Divisions, Major Sections, and Minor
Sections. The single box below these contains the items with Database !tem Codes.

An item in the database is unique based upon a combination of the Ninor Section Code and
the !tem Code. In the example below, the item "Vinyl Casement D.V. Window 4-0
x 3-0" has the unique code S564.0040.

Note - The term Ninor Section" is used interchangeably with CS!".

You can also view this Database arranged by the 200+ CS! NasterFormat. To do this click
on the Hier+Level radio button (renamed in screen below to 200+ NasterFormat") to the
right of the CS! radio button.

!tems in the 200+ CS! NasterFormat are organized in + levels. These heading levels from
left to right are Divisions, Najor Sections, Ninor Sections and Nini Sections. The items are
displayed underneath the headings.

Exercise # 2 Adding Items to the Estimate

1. Switch to the !tem Takeoff view by clicking on the Takeoff view button.
2. Next, click the Add button on the toolbar to open the database browser.
Select the desired database lookup using the radio buttons from List check !tems and
from View check CS!.
3. You can select an item of work to be added to the estimate by double clicking on the
item, or highlight the item and click the Add Item button.

+. Click the Accept button to transfer the selected list of items to the Takeoff sheet. At
this point, you can either select more items, or you can return to the !tem Takeoff view
by clicking Close.
5. Build an estimate from the items of work listed on the next two pages.

**!n adding the items for the homework, please don't be concerned that your pricing
doesn't exactly match. !t's probably the fact that you don't have the same labor 8
equipment database loaded. Your trainer can supply you a link to the same database used
in this training if needed.

Exercise # 3 Applying Quantities to Items in the Item Takeoff View

1. Fill in the quantities for the renovation project. The quantities are found on the next
two pages. There are two ways to enter quantities into an estimate:

A. Type the quantities directly into the Quantity Cell. This can be done either in
the !tem Takeoff view or in the Estimate Sheet view.

B. Use the Calculate Takeoff Quantity feature as shown below. First click on the
item you wish to quantify. Then type your quantity into the box or boxes right
below the label Calculate Takeoff Quantity. When those boxes are filled in click
Add Qty and WinEst quantify that item. Although this method may not
seem very quick now, it will be very useful later, particularly when quantifying
assemblies.

Some items have no quantities.
This is for reasons we'll demonstrate later.
