FEAST OF THE HOLY FAMILY OF JESUS, MARY AND JOSEPH

Childrens Involvement Welcome 9:30 am Mass

There are many opportunities for children in the parish to participate in a special way during our parish liturgies. Those who would like to volunteer are encouraged to speak to one of the ushers when they arrive at the church before Mass, to see what openings are still available. Examples of opportunities are: greet parishioners entering the church; hand out childrens bulletins to any young parishioners coming to Mass; assist adult ushers with the collection; participate in the offertory procession; hand out parish bulletins after Mass as parishioners exit the church. In addition, those who have been Confirmed and would like to be trained as a lector for the 9:30 am Mass are asked to contact the parish office.

Movie Night
The next Year of Faith Movie Night will take place Saturday, Feb. 2nd. Mark the date on your new calendar! The movie will start at 7:00 pm. Details will follow.

Update: Restore, Renew, Rejoice!

Our Feasibility Study to gain feedback from parishioners regarding support and input of our proposed combined Capital Campaign for Archdiocesan and Parish needs is now complete. M&M International is preparing a report on the data collected throughout the process, which will be submitted to the parish early in January. A summary report will be presented to parishioners by the end of January. We thank the many parishioners who participated in interviews and open forum sessions. The scope and design of the project may need to be adjusted in response to the feedback received from parishioners and the results of the study. There will be opportunities for consultation on the different aspects of the project and the design elements over the next few months. Details will be provided through pulpit and bulletin announcements in 2013. Volunteers Required for the Building Committee From Professional Fields: Our Building Committee will require more volunteers, especially from professional fields such as engineering, architecture and building trades (who do not plan to bid on any aspects of this project). Together with Larkin Architect, the technical assistance provided in determining the details of all aspects of the project will help ensure the best possible outcome for our efforts on behalf of the parish. Please prayerfully consider offering your time and expertise on this committee and contact the parish office for more information.

Feast of Holy Family

Because family is the resting ground where values and virtues are inculcated and cultivated, healthy families are essential to the well-being of society. As anyone can attest, however, during the past quarter century, a variety of factors have contributed to the progressive fragmentation, isolation and structural evolution of the family unit. For example there has been an everincreasing rate of divorce, a steady rise in the number of single-parent households; and in more than 50% of all households, both parents must work outside the home. Ever aware and sensitive to the needs of the people and the signs of the times, the church gathers together today for a celebration of family. Today is not a time to bemoan the obvious difficulties which threaten every family but to accent the unique and positive qualities which every family enjoys. Today, with its newness, affords each family an opportunity to look truthfully and without regret at how things are and then to envision, realistically and with trusting hope, the direction in which the family would like to grow together. The first reading invites family members to honour and reverence one another as Gods special gifts. It speaks of parental authority and of obedient children; in other words, it advocates discipline. Discipline, from which the word disciple is derived, means instruction or teaching. Although the word has been devalued by those who associate it only with punishment or control, the concept of discipline is far more comprehensive. One who offers discipline is actually acting as a teacher not only through rules and regulations but also by word and example. One who accepts discipline is willing to be taught. In todays second reading the family of the church is offered sound counsel regarding interpersonal relationships upon which family is founded Each member of every human family is invited to allow this call to virtue to speak to their heart. Lukes gospel reminds us that every child born into a family will bring to that family joys and blessings. Through it all, God, the one and gracious parent of us all, Jesus, our loving brother and the abiding power and presence of the Spirit remains ever near as the source and center of who we are as family.

Dear Parishioners, It takes the entire parish community working together to enable each of us to be prepared for, and open to, receiving the blessings of the Christmas season. A heartfelt thank you is extended to everyone who shared their time and talents to make this years parish celebrations of the birth of Christ meaningful and memorable for us all. The beautiful and spiritually nourishing liturgies were only made possible through the dedicated work of many people and by the attendance and participation of all those parishioners and friends who have worshipped with us during the Advent and Christmas season thus far. By gathering together as a Christian community of believers and participating weekly (or daily) in the Celebration of the Eucharist we experience the love of Christ and of one another. As we share our gift of faith with those around us, we strengthen each other so that we can continue to spread the Good News beyond our parish community. I also thank the many parishioners who made time to offer feedback through our recent feasibility study and open forum, regarding our Restore, Renew, Rejoice initiative. The continued involvement of all parishioners will be required as we analyze the information we have gathered and determine how we will move forward with this project. The vibrancy of our parish is a result of the participation and support of all members of our parish community. Let us pray for one another. Fr.
