1. GENERAL INFORMATION
1.1 Recommendations
The simulation software package SIMSEN has been developed to help engineers in the study
of complex power systems. Although the system is user friendly, it is advised to read all the
documentation provided, especially the tutorials 3 to 9. Execute these tutorials carefully and
you won't have any problem with your own examples.
1.2 Warnings
The simulation software package SIMSEN is nothing but a numerical tool and can in no case
solve correctly a problem with wrong input data. The user must be able to estimate the
validity of his results. Anyway, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology cannot be held
responsible for any misinterpretation of results or for erroneous results due to a wrong
utilization of the software.
1.3 Address
If you have any question, remark or problem with your simulations, please contact us at the
Swiss Federal Institute of Technology.

1.4 Demo version 2.3

Users must be aware that the limited demo version 2.3 can only manage circuits wit a
maximum of 10 elements. All the given examples and tutorials can however be simulated.

1.5 News
The present version 2.3 of SIMSEN offers the following new features.

Induction machine parameters conversion from characteristic quantities to equivalent

circuit diagram.
Batch processing: possibilities to launch several simulation through a single batch
command
Possibility to have large simulation parameters file.
Improvements of the post-processing program: Visual

The version 2.3 contains all the feature of version 2.2.10 and is this way 100% compatible.

2.2 How to start SIMSEN

To start the program, start the edisim23.exe program. It provides the graphical input
interface. With a shortcut to that program., you may start SIMSEN directly from the desktop.
2.3 Benchmark
Some users experienced very long computation times when simulating. This was due to a bad
network drive. It is recommended to simulate your examples on your hard disk, even if the
exe programs are called from a server. To check the installation of SIMSEN, you may launch
one of the given examples. Start the Edisim23 program, click in the middle of displayed
window, select the submenu File/Open and load the example file vector2l.stm from the
subdirectory \simsen\examples\vector2l. Enter the Simulation mode with the submenu
Simul and then start the simulation by selecting the program Sim. Answer <Yes> in the
displayed window and let the simulation proceed. This simulation has been completed in 27
seconds on a PC 500 MHz Pentium III with 128 Mb ram and IDE hard disk drive. Compare
this with your simulation time taking into account the hardware differences.
