CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION 1.

1 Background

Translation develops rapidly throughout the world and has become a means of transferring information or mesages from one text to another with different languages. The main purpose of translation is to make the readers understand the messages of the source text without any significant obstacle.thus, the role of translation is important for individuals, groups of people or even a country to access lots of beneficial information from other pat of world There are number of definitions made by many people on translation. One may give a definition on the basis of transforming forms of language from language into another. Others may give a definition by emphasizing translation as transferring meaning and messages frogarm the Source Language into the target Language, or even on the basis of their point of view that regards translation as a process of transferring culture A large number of translations have translated many kinds of English text. Novels and books are the example of text that has been rendered into to Indonesian. Meanwhile, we often find a number of translation product with low

quality. They do not cover the criteria given by newmark and finally for a good translation Newmark (1991 p 105) states that a translation should not read as a ranslation Similary, Finaly (1974) as quoted by Simatupang (1999), says that a translation should give a sense of original

1.2 The Reasons for choosing the topic

The writer chose this topic, analyzing translation novel entitled Twilight by Stephanie meyer. Frist of all, the writer is interested in studying the translation subject. The writer who is also a translator often finds a problem in translating , so it hoped that the writers ability in translation will increase than before .Besides it is hoped that this research will give contribution for other tranlators . who ofen find the same problem as the writers. Secondly, the nnovel which is written by Meyer is an international Best seller and has been traresearchnslated into several language

The reaseach Questions are as the study are as follows: 1. What kind of translation method were used in translating novel entitled twilight? 2. How are the sentences translated into indonesian language as the target language?

Based on the problem statements above,studys limited only to discover and analyze sentences with translation method contained in the novel entitled twilight

1.5 the Aim of study

the aims of the sudy particulary are as follows : 1. To discover what kind of translating method in the novel 2. To reveal and describe the ways how sentence translate into bahasa Indonesia as a target language

1.6 The method of study The method used in this research is qualitative for examining the data. The focus this approach is to expound the quality (nature or essence) of the relationship, activities,situations or material. Gay ( 1987 p.139), states that a descriptive method of research that collecting data in order to answer question concerning the subject of study namely classity, explain, and interpret the translating in the novel

This approach was employed because it brings some advantage it produces more in depth and comprehensive information

1.8 Data source This research examines two novels. Those are the original novel Twilight and the Indonesian version with the same title twilight. The novel was chosen because they are first edition of the series of twiligt saga novls. In other words, they are te stating point Twilights story. What has become the sample area a number tanslated method The Data gained by study comes from novel entitled written by Stephenie meyer. It was originally published in 2005 in America. The novel consists of 24 chapters in English version, it has 498 pages and translated, it has 520 pages. The novels has ben translated into Bahasa by Lily Devinta sari and distributed by PT.Gramedia Pustaka utama In 2008 1.9 Dta collection and data analysis The data in this research werw obtained from two novels. The original and the translation version. This was done by purposive sampling technique. Here some steps that the reaseach did in this reaseach paper: 1.
