5. What is God's purpose for the earth?

Why did God create the earth? God gave the earth to humans. The beautiful garden of Eden was their home. (Genesis 2:15-17) Adam and Eve were not created for heavenly life. Already God had created countless spirit creatures in the heaven. (Job 38:4,7) The fist human couple enjoyed perfect health with the prospect of living forever along with future generations of their offspring. Psalm 37:29; Psalm 115:16. God gave the first human couple the commission to expand the garden in Eden to cover the earth and to fill it with their offspring and subdue it. (Genesis 1:28) The earth will never be destroyed. Psalm 104:5.

Why is the earth not a paradise now? Adam and Eve disobeyed God, so they were driven out of Paradise. Paradise earth was lost, and no man has succeeded in restoring it. The Bible says: Earth itself has been given into the hand of the wicked one.Job 9:24; Genesis 3:23, 24. But Jehovah has not forgotten his original purpose for mankind, nor can he ever fail. (Isaiah 45:18) God will restore the human race to the way he meant it to be.Psalm 37:11,34 .

How Paradise will be restored? Paradise will be restored during Jesus' rule over the earth as God's appointed King. For mankind to enjoy peace, God must first eliminate wicked people. At the battle of Armageddon, God's angels will destroy all who oppose God. Satan will be imprisoned for 1,000 years, but people who love God will survive and live forever in Paradise on earth. Revelation 20:1-3; Revelation 21:3, 4.

When will suffering end? When will God destroy evil on earth? Jesus gave a sign to indicate when the end is near. Present world conditions threaten man's survival and show that we now live in the conclusion of the system of things.Matthew 24:3;7-14;21, 22; Luke 21:29, 30. Jesus will put an end to all sickness during his rule of a 1,000 years over the earth from heaven. (Isaiah 9:6, 7; 11:9) Besides being a King, Jesus will serve as High Priest and cancel the sins of those who love God. Also through Jesus, God will eliminate sickness, aging, and death.Isaiah 25:8; 33:24.

Who will live in the future Paradise? Who obey God will live in Paradise. (1 John 2:17) Jesus sent out his followers to search for sheeplike people and teach them how to be pleasing to God. Worldwide, Jehovah is preparing millions of people for life in the coming Paradise on earth. (Zephaniah 2:3) At Kingdom Halls of Jehovah's Witnesses, people learn how to be better husbands and fathers and how to be better wives and mothers.
