Third Sunday of Advent As we prepare to welcome the Lord we learn the virtue of patient, prayerful waiting Nothing worthwhile in life is sudden. We wait for life to reveal its meaning, year by year, experience by experience. How patient have I been? How prayerful have I been? How hopeful am I? Jesus comes to hearts patient with HOPE. Rejoice in the Lord always; again I say, rejoice. Indeed, the Lord is near.

MISSION STATEMENT Our family of faith here at SS. Philip and James Parish will continue to strive and to work together to promote the "Good News of Jesus Christ". As a community, we will strengthen our faith and our kinship by devoting our lives to living the Word so that our children can continue our journey.

Pope Benedict invites Catholics to rediscover the truths of the faith through developing a familiarity with the Catechism of the Catholic Church during the Year of Faith. For many, the YouCat! is the best way to study what the Church teaches. It is in question/answer format and easy to read and understand. Get a copy for yourself and your family.

Second Collection Emergency Needs Collection

Bishop LaValley asked that each parish make a contribution toward the relief efforts for those affected by Hurricane Sandy. If you would like to contribute, please place your donation in the second collection next week. You may also contribute at any time if you place your donation in an envelope marked Hurricane Relief. Money collected in the Diocese will be distributed through Catholic Charities agencies in those areas. Thanks! Christmas Collection for Priest Retirement The Diocese of Ogdensburgs Retirement Plan for Priests has long been supported by parish contributions from its annual Christmas Collection. Beginning in 2011, 100% of the Christmas Collection is contributed for support of the Plan. Currently 36 retired priests, and 10 active priests age 70 or older, are expected to receive pension benefits of $724,510 in 2012-13. Also 95% of the cost of health insurance premiums for retired priests is paid by the Plan. Your generous contribution not only supports current retirees but will also help provide for the retirement needs of priests who will retire in the future. Say thank you to your pastor and all priests of the diocese through a generous contribution to our Christmas Collection.
Cry out with joy and gladness: for among you is the great and Holy One of Israel

Lights on the River

we will again be having a display at Lights on the River from Dec. 15 23. Thanks again to all who have given their time and talent for this wonderful Nativity display and Keep Christ in Christmas light boxes. On December 21 our parish will be doing the live Nativity scene down at the pavilion for Lights on the River. We will also be caroling and hosting the entrance gate that night. There are sign-up sheets in the back of church. There is plenty of room for both young and not-so-young to be involved. Last year was a lot of fun, so come and take part! Any questions, please ask Chris Puleo or Mike Backus. TV and Online Mass for the Homebound Is someone you love unable to get to church? My Sunday Mass will bring spiritual comfort and joy during this holy time of Advent and Christmas. For the Sunday time and channel guide, or to watch Christmas Mass online. Please visit www.MySundayMass.org. Please Note:For those who can get to church, the TV/online liturgy will not meet the Sunday or Christmas Mass obligation.
