The Mid-Atlantic is faced with enormous challenges and opportunities as a result of super storm Sandy. At least 17 states were affected and estimated damages of $62 billion dollars translate to rebuilding and improving the buildings and facilities utilizing the latest in energy efficient technologies. The rebuilding efforts must include the risk of climate change and creating smarter and greener cities. The United States is competing in a global race for the clean energy jobs of the future and clean technologies. The 2013 Obama Administration is committed to an all-of-the-above energy strategy that includes critical investments in innovation and production of clean energy technologies, in clean energy jobs, promoting efforts to reduce our dependence on foreign oil, and strengthening our national security. GLOBALCON 2013, presented by the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) and hosted by Philadelphia Gas Works (PGW), is the one place where building owners, facility managers and energy professionals can get up to speed on the latest policies of the new administration, compare supply side and demand side options, and learn about leading edge technologies from combined heat and power to LED lighting to renewable energy solutions. In light of current events we are faced with many challenges addressing our nations energy policy including a divided Congress, impending fiscal cliff, and budget cuts. Floyd DesChamps, Senior Vice President of Policy at the Alliance to Save Energy will address the future outlook of energy policy moving forward under the Obama Administration. Attendees will also learn about changes in energy efficiency programs due to federal spending cuts and major energy initiatives being pushed by Congress and the 2013 Administration. Following several years of development, demand response has now started transforming wholesale markets and reducing costs for ratepayers. Susan Covino, Senior Consultant of Emerging Markets at PJM Interconnection, LLC, will address updates on the PJM Demand Response Markets and Laurie WiegandJackson, President of North America Power Partners, will address demand response programs across the U.S. In a new session on Smart Buildings, you will learn the techniques currently available for collaboration between building systems, facility managers, and building occupants to achieve short-term and life cycle cost reductions, energy conservation, and user satisfaction. Attend this session and hear from experts Nick Stecky, President of NJS Associates and Peter Winslow, Professor of Sustainability & Environmental Engineering at Rutgers University School of Engineering.

The Mid-Atlantic Clean Energy Application Center has put together an informative session on CHP again this year at GLOBALCON. This session will address the new issues that will impact the future growth of CHP in the MidAtlantic region. Attendees will discover the role of CHP in the beneficial use of shale gas from an economic development perspective, the reliability support provided by CHP for an ageing infrastructure as highlighted during hurricane Sandy as well as power generation options, costs and environmental impact and the place CHP holds in our future energy environment. The Sustainable Energy Fund developed a session on renewable energy, covering the status of renewable energy generation technologies and deployment throughout the United States, the latest updates on renewable energy credits, net metering, time of use rates, public financing and tax credits, and lessons learned in renewable energy deployment, from small scale distribution, to campuses, to large-scale distribution of renewable energy technologies. Hear from experts Jack Christensen, Manager of Facilities and Energy Management Operations at the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, and Tim Bigler, Senior Market Strategist for Hess Corporation, on pragmatic, compelling challenges and cases for compressed natural gas. Attendees will hear the challenge to transforming a state owned highway into a green corridor, responding to the need for manufacturing commercial and private CNG vehicles, and accelerating the commercialization of CNG. Competitive selection of natural gas and electricity has had a dramatic effect on the job of the energy manager. Not only must they pay attention to consuming less energy, but they also must continue to watch the future cost of energy, and take advantage of opportunities as they become available. A session on deregulation will focus on the current issues and opportunities available to the energy manager with regards to purchasing energy in the competitive marketplace and understanding the risks associated with it.

Earns 2.8 CEU / 28 PDH A Preparatory Course For The Masters Level CEA Exam on March 7, 2013 Seminar held at the Pennsylvania Convention Center
About the seminar: Traditional energy audits are based upon the evaluation of existing energy consumption, on-site data collection from energy consuming equipment, and reporting of common energy conservation opportunities. These audits can typically lead to 10% energy savings. The goal of the advanced energy audit is to reach beyond the typical equipment replacements, and develop a plan which considers additional areas such as indoor air quality, code compliance, operation and maintenance, risk mitigation, commissioning, and investment-grade details. This four-day course provides auditors with the knowledge and tools needed to develop enhanced recommendations leading to increased client energy savings. The Masters Level CEA exam will be administered at each seminar site beginning at 8:00 am on the morning following the final day of instruction -- only to those who have met qualifying criteria to sit for the exam and have submitted a completed Masters Level CEA application and fee. About Masters Level CEA Certification Please Note: In order to qualify to sit for the Masters Level CEA exam, you must submit your completed Masters Level CEA application, along with a $300 application fee. The AIA requires that registered architect members earn 18 Learning Units (LUs) hours of continuing education annually (8 hours of which must be related to Health, Safety, and Welfare topics and 4 of those 8 in Sustainable Design) to remain in good standing. Architectural boards in 40 states, 10 Canadian provinces, and 19 countries have implemented mandatory continuing education (MCE) for re-licensure. Statistically, architects hold multiple state licenses. Most states with MCE requirements recognize the AIA/CES as the primary source of professional development for their licensed architects. This allows AIA members to present their AIA/CES transcripts (and non-members AIA/CES Certificates of Completion) to licensing boards to satisfy state requirements. In becoming an AIA/CES Registered Provider, AEE is committed to a system-wide, top-down commitment to quality professional continuing education and sound administration. The AIA/CES offers providers of professional continuing education myriad opportunities to award CES Learning Units (LUs) and provide valuable information and guidance, while bypassing the time-consuming process of registering their courses with individual states.

FREE Retrofitting Existing Facilities for Improved Operational Control, Energy Efficiency and Regulatory Compliance
Tuesday, March 5, 2013 / 1:00 pm3:00 PM
Compared with new facilities, existing buildings and plants often have legacy equipment which waste energy, require more maintenance, and incur more downtime. A complete rip-out and replace strategy is cost prohibitive and very disruptive to ongoing operations and occupants. New non-invasive technologies now allow for retrofits that take minutes to install, require no downtime, and deliver substantial savings with investment payback of less than 18 months. This presentation will cover actual case studies and savings data related to HVAC, lighting, steam, air quality monitoring, and compressed air retrofits.

With the rising cost of conventional energy, renewable resources are on the verge of becoming a key part of Americas economic future. The Federal government and many foreign governments have chosen to support new alternative energy solutions through subsidies. These subsidies may total up to 60% of the direct installation costs of renewable energy systems. Subsidies apply to wind, photovoltaic, and hot water systems. The Administration in Washington is on record supporting Alternative Energy as an important component of the Economic Stimulus Package passed by Congress. 21st Century Group will leverage its sourcing, marketing and construction expertise to give its Customers the largest variety of Solar Products at the best possible price. Our Construction expertise permits us to make sure your Solar Products work harmoniously with your new or existing building.
