Mars Marriage & Sex 1. Position and aspects of Mars are very important, particularly in a femal e nativity. 2.

. Mars in a female nativity represents the desire of congress with a male.

3. If Mars is in the 1st house in watery signs, it inclines one to low comp any, wine and women. 4. Mars in the 4th seriously disturbs home life, giving rise to constant di sputes. 5. Mars in the 5th house gives fondness for pleasures of life. A keen edge is imparted to the desire nature. One is inclined to have romance with the oppos ite sex and acts under great impulse of emotions in this direction. In a male na tivity this should be interpreted as inclining to a number of love affairs, thei r success depending upon benefic influences, this planet may be receiving and th e frustration, on the evil aspects that it may be forming. In a female nativity, if in evil aspect, it may lead to disgrace. 6. s. 7. Mars in the 5th house gives, abundance of emotions and excess of feeling Mars in the 5th house if afflicted by (a) Sun acts as adverse influence particularly in a female nativity. (b) Moon an adverse influence particularly in a male nativity. (c) Mercury there may be indiscretion in writing love letters (d) Jupiter - there may be waste of vital force or squandering of money due to opposite sex. (e) Venus brings frustration and ruin through the opposite sex. (f) Saturn there may be frustration of desires, delay in marriage, sor rows in love. (g) Herschel As a result of undue desire nature, foolish infatuations are formed, resulting in frustration or disgrace. (h) Neptune same as affliction of Saturn. There may be some illusion i n regard to ones beloved and consequent poignancy of grief. 8. If Mars is much afflicted in the 5th house particularly by the lord of t he 7th and unmitigated by any benefic influence it acts as a very evil influence . There may be separation with the husband/wife and the parties may have to go a court of law, for compensation/divorce. 9. Mars in the 5th house in a male nativity inclines to love affairs partic ularly if forming aspects with the lord of the 1st or 7th. In a female nativity if afflicted by the lord of the 10th, it may lead to disgrace. 10. Mars in the 7th (not in its own sign). This is an evil influence. The ma rriage is unfortunate; there are constant quarrels with the marriage partner, an d if other indications confirm, there might be premature death of the marriage p artner (look for other indications for confirmation).

11. Mars in the 7th denotes a wife who is combative, aggressive and tries to dominate. In a male nativity, this shows that it is the wife who wears the trou sers. 12. Mars in 7th. The partner is endowed with courage and boldness and much c onstructive energy. But he/she would be overbearing and assertive to a fault. If such Mars receives good aspects from strong planets, this may indicate in a fem ale nativity that the husband may be employed in the Military or Police or follo w some occupation, falling under Mars (surgery, electric engineering, work conne cted with colours, copper, etc.) and this may not be taken as an adverse influen ce, if Mars is essentially strong. But weak or afflicted Mars would indicate tha t the marriage partner would be quarrelsome, unruly and cruel husband/wife. In a male nativity, this is rarely a good influence unless Mars is in Aries, Taurus, Libra, Scorpio or Capricorn. 13. Mars in the 7th house :

(a) If afflicted therein, indicates quarrels and unpleasantness in conju gal life. If more than once malefic afflicts and Venus be also afflicted without benefic aspect of Jupiter to the seventh house or marriage significators, home life may break up and there may be separation due to the uncontrollable temper o r sexual craving. (b) Even when well aspected, it is not a very good position but if formi ng good aspect with Moon in a male nativity or with Sun in a female nativity it is not so bad. The marriage would continue, and not disrupt particularly if it h as the sextile or trine of Jupiter. (c) The evil influences emanating from this position of Mars must be mod ified according to the sign it is in, if in hot and fiery sign the partner may b e fiery in temper, if in watery signs, inclined to drink or lewd; in Aries and S corpio it is not so bad, but inclines to more than one marriage if other indicat ions confirm. Mars in Capricorn in seventh: one marries well and the social posi tion of the native is enhanced by such an alliance. 14. If Mars in the 7th house is much afflicted by Sun or Moon or is in conju nction with malefic planets or forms evil aspects with several planets, ones wi fe/husband is always causing a jarring note in the domestic life. There is much aggressiveness and uncontrollable temper on the part of the partner and the peac e and serenity of home life is shattered. Also, there may be more than one marri age. 15. 16. y. Mars in the 7th: the native is inclined to have love affairs. Mars in 8th, a disastrous influence for the husband, in a female nativit

17.. Mars in 8th. There may be financial difficulties after marriage and it i s possible wife/husband may be directly or indirectly connected with or be cause of such financial difficulties. One will have to face indebtedness. 18.. Mars in the 9th There may be losses through relatives of wife/husband. Also gives rise to some friction with relations by marriage. Aspects of Mars 19. If Mars is afflicted in a womans horoscope marriage becomes a problemat ical affairs. Also, unless there are other favourable features, marriage may be denied or delayed.

(a) This is particularly so if Mars is afflicted by a strong Saturn. (b) If Herschel afflicts Mars, engagements made may be broken. The femal e would be inclined to have romantic attachments and may have a number of affair s. (c) If Neptune is the afflicting planet there may be homo-sexuality or s ome other sex perversion. 20. If Mars is afflicted by strong Venus there may be irregular unions. Unle ss the lord of the 1st house and those of 4th and 9th are strong there is unbrid led licence and dissipation. This would be particularly so if these planets are conjoined in the 5th or one of them is in 5th. 21. Mars in conjunction with or in affliction by weak Venus: the native is t oo much addicted to wine, women, and wantonness. Self-indulgence leads to dissip ation of vital energies. When Venus is very weak or debilitated in a male nativi ty the native has congress with women of low status but in a female nativity thi s would be so, particularly if Mars be debilitated or otherwise weak. 22. When Mars is afflicted by Venus and the former is in elevation, it is a greater evil than if Venus be in elevation. 23. Mars in good aspect to Venus makes one inclined to pleasures of life and female company. In a female nativity it has similar effect. One may marry well. 24. If Mars is very weak and is afflicted by conjunction or malefic aspects of Neptune, Herschel and Saturn (if not by all the three at least by two) the pa th of love affairs is beset with difficulties and dangers before as well as afte r marriage and may lead to sorrows and a series of regrettable actions. 25. Mars in conjunction with or evil aspect to Herschel is bad (make sure th at in case of aspect they are within orbs). 26. If Mars be the Ruling planet in a horoscope and be in bad aspect with Ne ptune it leads to unbridled licence. Passions are strongly marked and there is m uch emotional disturbance. The native seeks sex gratification, if not outside by self-indulgence. Also, there may be some scandal and disrepute pertaining to so me love affairs. 27. Unless there are strong benefics in the 7th house or aspecting it, if Ma rs be the lord of the 7th house, it is unfavourable for disputes. And the person would not be well advised to go to a court of law in connection with marriage s uit or divorce. 28. (a) Mars (representing the sexual urge in female) if afflicted in a fema le nativity shows non-fulfillment of such craving. (b) If Mars be very weak and be in conjunction square or opposition to a n elevated Saturn of (Saturn in first or the 7th house) the female may remain a spinster. See also for confirmation, whether barren signs are on the cusps of 5t h and 7th house. The sex outlook of the Signs ruled by Mars ARIES Aries is a rash, impetuous, and headstrong sign, impulsive in love affairs and m arriage as in everything else. It is passionate. At the same time there is deal

of idealism. Sexual indulgence is a matter more of sudden impulse than of delibe rate seeking. It is a positive type which does not harmonise well with a positiv e partner. It tends to seek some of a weaker nature whom it can impress with its masculine qualities and can protect. A man with Aries rising is attracted by beauty and apparent helplessness. He nee ds a wife content to remain in the background and duly admire his powers and abi lity when it is expected of her. Normally Aries is a better sign for a man than for a woman. The Aries woman is t oo masterful, too much of a whirlwind in the house. She is capable, generous, ea sily becomes loud, self-opinionated, shrewish, and bossy under affliction. The Aries nature is an intense one, capable of sudden violence and great jealous y. With suitable afflictions, especially from Mars or Uranus, a sadistic tendenc y can easily develop. By itself, it is too direct, simple and primitive a sign t o lend itself readily to perversion. It strives for leadership, whether in man or woman. Unless the partner is conten t to be led, constant friction will develop. Partly for this reason Aries marria ges are often unhappy though other factors contribute to cause disharmony. One of them is a tendency to physical or psychic sex weakness which is sometimes present in the Aries man, or to sexual indifference in the Aries woman. Another is the propensity of the Aries man, and sometimes of the woman also, to indulge in promiscuous flirtations and love affairs. The reason underlying such affairs is that they flatter the Aries vanity. In the man, at least there is the additional instinctive search for the ideal, so comm on in the male, so often cause of matrimonial infidelity. SCORPIO Scorpio is by far the strongest and most extreme sign of all. The natives of no other sign can rise to such great heights or sink to such abysmal depths as thos e of Scorpio. It is a very strongly-sexed sign. The Scorpio native can stand long continued ex cesses which would quickly break down the constitution of most other signs. As m ight be expected, the outlook is usually a markedly sexual one, though it is not invariably so. The ability for continence and self-control is quite as great as the desire for self-indulgence. The Scorpio native has an eye to the main chance as a rule, frequently contracts a marriage that offers considerable material advantages. The Scorpio nature is an intensely proud one. Marriage is often entered into in order to obtain money and position. A wife who will, by her social standing or c harm of manner, be instrumental in improving the natives worldly standing and i mportance. In cases such as this, the Scorpio man tends to seek affection or adventure away from home. He never allows such entanglements to disturb his domestic life, whi ch is kept quite apart from everything else. Perhaps the chief faults of Scorpio women are intense jealousy, pride, a dominat ing disposition and either sulkiness of sarcasm. There is nothing of the milk-and-water miss about Scorpio women. They have str ong characters, a keen, if sometimes peculiar, sense of justice and the capacity for very deep and lasting loves and hates.

As might be expected from the extreme nature of the sign, marriage can be either very happy or entirely the reverse. A seriously afflicted Scorpio tends to involve tragedy and crime, while liabilit y to brooding, fits of deep gloom and depression, and persecution mania are quit e common to a greater or lesser extent according to the degree of affliction. Scorpio itself is not specially subject to sexual perversion, but its sexual nat ure and its rulership over the sex organs makes it an important factor in cases of perversion, especially those of a homosexual nature. MatrimonyandEvils of Mars (KUJA DOSH) The Pivotal Role of Marriage The Indian culture divides mans life into 16 San skaras of which marriage is the central. After marriage, man enters into Grihast a Ashram which is the pivot on which rest all our social institutions and custom s. A householder not only performs his duties towards his family, he replies to all social debts and keeps the wheels of society moving. The married life is not only upholding individual interests but on it also lies the burden of raising a worthy next generation. All this is implicit in our familiar structure. Therefore, marriage in Indian customs is not a physical or social contract alone , but a sanctified event. It is witnessed by the Panch Mahabhuta, nine planets, thirty-three Koti Devas, Parijan and Purjan and is blessed by Lord Saptapadi thr ough the chanting of Vedic Mantras. So solemnized, the marriage unites the bride and the bride-groom for seven births, both vowing to help each other and share alike the joys and sorrows together. It is sad to note these and several other aspects denoted by the Indian marriage are getting dim. Yet one may take heart in the fact that Indian people are resi lient. Perhaps when the novelty of the new life is faded, we will reinforce our own ways of life. At least individually we can subscribe to a view of life that embraces modernism but does not leave its own virtues. Mangal Dosh - (Myth and Reality) As a consequence of our receding faith in our highly developed science of astrology, or even due to creeping of superficialit y in our outlook, our consultation of a horoscope is guided by sheer negligence and ignorance. A cursory definition, a ruling by an astrologer and the die is se t for boy or girl. A true picture is never presented before parents to know as t o what is in store for their wards in future. Astrologer may take from few hours to few days to plot his chart to know about a particular effect. Again tallying of a persons horoscope with his/her prospective partner to examine if or not t hey cancel each others evil influences is by no means an easy task. This factor should be of a prime consideration before the marriage, only to avoid problems o r a series of problems which the couple have to face after marriage. If this fac tor is not taken into consideration at first instant then it often becomes too l ate to do anything about it. As for Mangal Dosh afflicting a couple, it may be stated here that there are mor e myths than reality prevalent in this respect. More often unscrupulous, illogic al and immature judgements are passed resulting in untold turmoil and anguish fo r the concerned person which is totally wasteful. It must be kept in mind that i f astrological mathematics go wrong, mischievous or incomplete calculation of av ailable facts and figures upset the entire forecasting mechanism and give a comp letely wrong picture. Instead of the malady being cured or minimized a person is only lost in the maze of the problems. It is, therefore, necessary that the term Mangal Dosh be first understood. Also

known as Kuja Dosh because the planet Mars is involved, Mangal Dosh though resul ting in unease and adversities is not always fatal, as it is made out by numerou s astrologers and later day theorists. There are proven remedial measures in the form of hymns and chants that reduce, if not nullify, the intensity of the evil in the life of a couple. There are psychological explanations, which we will di scuss later, to clarify how and why these hymns prove effective in countering th e Mangal Dosh. All the same as per our own wide, ranging study of a particular c ase of Mangal Dosh operating in a couples life, except in some severe cases, we have found that it is rarely that it results in death of a person or of the spo use. Fatality is not ruled out, but it is not a rule with Mangal Dosh. In fact, the five ancient Indian authoritative texts on astrology do not even ta ke up a systematic treatment of the subject and it is left to a later day south Indian Book to broach the topic in any definitive detail. Though these texts t he Brihat Parashar Hora Shastra, Jataka Parijata, Saravali, Phaladeepika and Pra sna Marg do discuss threadbare the effects and ills of Mangal Dosh, but it is passing alongwith several other astrological factors governing a persons life. The result of a confusing stand on Mangal Dosh is often, a non-Mangali subject i s declared Mangali on the basis of the birth chart without taking into account r elated factors that may have reduced or even totally, cancelled out the Mangal D osh. The search for a matching Mangali suitor begins with distortion of the avai lable facts which becomes disastrous in the future. In the case of girl particul arly, this plays a havoc because she will have fewer suitors to choose from. The n the balancing mechanism having been distorted from the beginning, wrong partne r will be finally selected. This is the least unpardonable. Worst, sometimes, th e parents of the girl in desperation resort to falsehoods in getting wrong horos cope prepared, compounding the entire problem. In rests, therefore, with all those connected with astrology as also the concern ed party/parties to carefully ascertain the parameters of Mangal Dosh operating in a particular case before laying out the case of an individual This exact charting of the Mangal Dosh pattern in all its manifestation is the s tarting point of the present investigation. Mangal Dosh : Some Home Truths - Mangal Dosh, as will be discussed later, is cau sed chiefly by adverse positioning of the planet Mars, but other planets like Ra hu, Ketu, Saturn and Sun also cause the affliction in certain position. The net Mangal dosh for any person is defined by Mars, Saturn, Rahu, Ketu and Sun and by certain cancellations effected by favourable planets and favourable positioning of certain planets which reduce the intensity of Mangal Dosh, sometimes renderi ng it almost ineffective. Nevertheless Mangal Dosh once discovered to be present in ones birth chart, invariably affects the personality, the outlook and the d estiny of the person and those nearest to him. With the result the person needs to pay special attention to this affliction, train his mental affectation to cou nter evil emanations instincts and mould his thoughts in patterns that confo rm to successful living. This can be achieved through a proper understanding of his own Mangal afflicted psychology, which is driving him towards a particular a ggressive and aggravated behaviour harmful in the end, and through comparing him self with the psychology of others who live a benign but progressive life, easil y surmounting the difficulties that come in the way. Mars, considered the most malefic planet as far as Mangal Dosh is concerned, has been regarded by astrologers since the times immemorial as the worst culprit. L aterly, Mars is at its cruellest when it occupies Lagna, 2nd, 4th, 7th or 12th h ouse. Some scholars also add the 8th house in the list. The prediction in Bhava Deepika of Kerala says :-

But scholars regard this statement, that the spouse of a Mangali native dies, wi th a pinch of salt. Large scale experience also proves that this is not properly interpreted. Another Shaloka states :If Ravi and Rahu are with Atmakarka in the Navamsa chart and they are also aspec ted by Mars, one burns his own house or helps others to burn theirs Kalidasa explains in Uttara Kalamrita that Kuja Dosh should be considered from Lagna, Moon or Venus depending on which is the strongest. Mantreshwara also hol ds the same view in Phaladeepika. Narad Samhita mention that Kuja Dosh should be considered for the sign of Mars a nd reckoned from Venus. Jataka Parijata, Agastaya Samhita find Kuja Dosh present in 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th a nd 12th houses. Sarvartha Chintamani also suggests Kuja Dosh in 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th and 12th hous es, whereas Narada Samhita takes Lagna also in consideration. Mantreshwara says that Ketu should also be regarded as Mars. A few classics like Vachaspatyam suggest that Kuja Dosh should only be considered if Mars joins 8 th house and nowhere else. If Mars is debilitated, combust or joins inimical sig n in 8th house there is no Kuja Dosh. If Mars joins 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house in the horoscope of the boy as we ll as the girl, Kuja Dosh gets cancelled. Mars position should be reckoned from Lagna, Moon or Venus. This brings marital happiness, wealth, prosperity, health and friends etc. This means that if Mars joins 1st, 2th, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house in one of th e matching horoscope and Saturn occupies either of these houses in the other bir th chart, Mars Dosh gets cancelled Mars, Saturn, Rahu, Ketu and Sun are malefics . For the consideration of Kuja Dosh these planets are to examined and reckoned from (i) Lagna; (ii) Moon; (iii) Venus, the significator. Some more aphorisms which have been considered elsewhere in this chapter during categorization of the Dosh are quoted below. Our sages had deep vision and intui tive power, though there are some contradictions in their enunciation on these a spects of Mangal Dosh. In practice most of these aphorisms turn out to be true a nd reveal deep psychological understanding of the subject afflicted by different positions and various kinds of set-up of planets, Lagna, Navamsa etc. Today all we have to do is to grasp where these particular aphorisms apply and in which c ase they do not hold good. Should Mars occupy an adverse place with reference to Lagna, Moon or Venus, adve rsity during life is certain. Should Mars happen to rule at about the time of a contemplated marriage, wisdom dictates that we put off the proposal till the Dasa is over. If it comes at old age or had already come in childhood, it may be ignored. Should in the nativities of a couple, Mars occupy the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th or the 12th house with reference to Lagna, the Moon and/or Venus equally (i.e. in both of them) the couple will live for long, be wealthy, beget children and poss es friends. Should only one of them be so, he is often afflicted with death. So says great Rishis like Atri. Should Mars occupy the 4th or the 7th house identical with Aries, Cancer, Scorpi o or Capricorn, Kuja Dosh does not arise. It is of benefic disposition.

Should Mars occupy the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 8th house in movable signs, then he become s innocuous. In other signs he is a malefic. Should Mars occupy any of the above five houses but is accompanied by the Moon, Jupiter or Mercury the Dosh does not arise. When aspected by the, one should not even think of any harm. The unit of Dosh counted from Lagna is I, from the Moon and from Venus . Shou ld they synchronise, then they should be treated from Lagna alone. So say the gr eat Rishis. Should the rulers of the 2nd and the 7th houses be malefics, they cause harm to the wife. Should malefics occupy the 7th or the 8th house they harm the husband. Mars in the 7th or the 8th house fetches one full unit of Dosh for women; for me n one unit in the second and the 7th from Lagna, from the Moon and from Venu s. Rahu should be greeted at par with Mars (in the matter of Dosh). Saturn and G ulika fetch Dosh. The Sun there fetches Dosh. Should Jupiter aspect them or be exalted, the evil effects are curtailed to half. Mars does not confer Dosh, should it occupy (in those houses) its own sign, its exaltation, or own or exaltation Navamsa. It is harmless in Cancer and Leo. Others say that even as the 7th house and Venus are considered for the husband, the 8th and the Saturn too should be considered so. Should the lord of the 7th or the Sun occupy a malefic sign or Navamsa, enjoined with or aspected by malefics, the wife will be perverted and do sinful acts. A malefic planet in the 7th house of the male chart, when occupying own or exalt ation house and with full rays bestows an ideal wife who belongs to a reputed fa mily and bears good character and has qualifications. However, if it is debilita ted or is combust it gives a wife, who is a flirt and lacks character. Mars, when debilitated or occupies enemy house in the 7th, kills the wife and gi ves second marriage. Should, however, the house be its own, exalted or aspected by benefics if gives a good and fortunate wife. If Venus or Jupiter is disposed in Lagna or the 7th house and Mars is weak, Kuja Dosh becomes ineffective. If Mars is placed in the sign owned by Saturn, evils of Mars get neutralized. Authoritative Views on Mangal Dosh- The views of Brihat Jataka, Saravali, Jataka -Parijata and Phaladeepika about the position of Mars in 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th , and 12th houses are significant guides to the entire mystery. Mars in the First House Brihat Jataka- The subject will have an injured limb. Saravali-Jataka will be cruel, courageous, dull, short-lived, egoistic, valiant, will have injured body, otherwise good looking, if retrograde wavering. Jataka Parijata- The person will be cruel, daring, wandering, very fickle and si ckly. Phaladeepika- The subject will have an injured limb, will be short lived, cruel and adventurous. Comments- By Lagna, a person individuality, body constitution, character, childh

ood, health and vitality is decided. Laganasth Mangal denotes angry nature, phys ical warmth, blood complaints, accident, mental excitement, confusion in thought s. Health is affected and the man has no control lover his stubbornness and arro gance. The 7th and 8th houses are also aspected by Lagnasth Mars. As a result ma ny harmful effects are witnessed in individuals physical health, house, propert y and age. Thus Lagnasth Mangal affects a mans life with Mangal Dosh. If Mars i s placed with Moon or weak Venus, the same type of afflictions are to be expecte d. Mars in the Second House Brihat Jataka- The person will eat food. Saravali- Poverty, bad food, deformed face, depending upon bad people, devoid of knowledge. Jataka Parijata- The subject will be engaged in wandering in pursuit of metallur gy and agriculture, hot tempered. Phaladeepika- The Jataka will be ugly faced, devoid of learning and wealth, will be dependent on bad people Comments- The thorough investigation of family, countenance Dakkhin Netra, eloqu ence, cause of death etc., is done by the placement of Mars in the second house. Due to full aspect (Purna Drishti) of Mars from second Bhava on fifth Bhava, th ere will be loss of Dhan (finance) and progeny. Drishti Nikshepe on 8th house an d 9th house (Bhava) causes damage to health and lock respectively. There is a sa ying in Sanskrit: The Second Bhavasth Mangal unusually dangers the health of life partner and incr ease undesirable problems in the family. Generally under this position of Mars d ifference of opinion between couple, family quarrels and money problems prevail. Mars in the Fourth House Brihat Jataka-The subject will have no happiness and will be of troubled mind. Saravali- devoid of relatives, garments, food and house without vehicle, unhappy and will be living in others house. Jataka Parijata- The person will have little connections with relations and will be a henpecked husband though valiant and unconquered by women. Phaladeepika- The person is without friends, mother, lands, happiness house and vehicles. Comments- In the matter of marital aspect the 4th house is called Sukh Sthana (h appiness) also. Pleasure objects like house, land vehicle, household goods (uten sils and furniture etc.), mental harmony are an accordance of this Bhava only. A lthough fourth Bhavasth Mars is a good disposition of immovable property, this p osition is malefic for the stability of happiness and peace. From here Mars cast s full aspect of seventh Bhava on account of which it becomes impossible to esta blish proper equation with the life Partner. Preceptors have explained harmful e ffects (Mars Dosh), caused by fourth Bhavasth Mars. Here evil of Mars is only 5% . So one having Mars in the 4th house is said to be a light Mangali. Under this position of Mars, stubbornness, hot temperament and lack of ability of adjustmen t with each other causes damage to marital life. Mars in the Seventh Bhava Brihat Jataka The subject suffers humiliation at the hands of women. Saravali The subjects wife dies, troubled by diseases, following bad path, un

happy, sinful life devoid of wealth. Troubled mind and charmless body. Jataka Parijata Jataka will be quarrelsome about women and fond of war. Phaladeepika The person is born to do improper acts, suffer affliction through diseases, wanders on roads and loses his wife. possibility of widowhood due to death or murder of the spouse of the person havi ng eighth Bhavasth Mars. The native may have to endure mental agony, wrath of fa mily and social contempt. If this Bhava is placed with or aspected by Venus and Jupiter, the problems become more terrible. Mars disposition here casts Purna D rishti on Kutumb Bhava. Consequently, one has to bear the household and financia l loss. According to Parasara, there is financial loss and defeat. Mostly all the Shastr akara have interpreted this position as the most malefic. Such native collect il legal wealth, are fond of eating good food and suffer from diseases like pneumon ia, blood pressure, boils, cuts, injuries, accidents and have to undergo operati ons etc. Besides diseases, Mars in the 8th house in the female horoscope damages Mangalya (saubhagya) of a lady. Destructions are caused due to separation or de ath. Mars in the Twelfth Bhava This Bhava signifies expenditure, traveling, bed-pleasure, purchasing power, enj oyment, sleeplessness etc. Due to Purna Drishti on seventh Bhava Mars becomes di rectly responsible for hindrance in the marital happiness, health of spouse and dissipation. Mentality to oppose Bandhu (brother, friend, relation) develops. Th ere is decline of control over sex life. The native intends cruelty, fault-findi ng-contemptuousness, blemish of others and courts trouble with others. The nativ es of this Yoga are excessive eaters, short tempered, rebellious and debauch. Th ere is wealth loss and poverty in life. There is excessive fury of agonies and m aladies like accident, suicide, headache, migraine, blood complaints and indiges tion. According to Kalyana Varma the native is eye patient, corrupt, disgraced, wifes murderer and criminal. However, one is not considered strong Mangali if Mars jo ins the 12th house. Only 50% Dosh of Mars should be taken into account while wei ghing Kuja Dosh. The number of malefic results are maximum in Scorpio and Capricorn. In Aries, Le o, Sagittarius, Cancer and Pisces, the rate of malefic results are medium and in Gemini, Libra and Aquarius it is less. Nullifying ill-effects : Some opinions Before making a final decision of Kuja Dosh on any native, the disposition and c ombination (the Yoga) of all planets, Rashis and Drishti, should be studied thor oughly in detail. A minute negligence in the study of the details will bring ext remely fallacious predictions. In reference to Mangal Dosh astrologer should alw ays study deeply on the following combinations. It is widely believed that in th ese dispositions there are no residual Mangal Dosh as they get cancelled with th e influence of benefic factors in the birth chart :(a) If Mars is in fourth or seventh Bhava and Aries, Cancer, Scorpio or Capr icorn sign fall in these houses. (b) If Mangal is disposed with strong Moon, Jupiter or Mercury in Lagna, sec ond, fourth, seventh, eighth or twelfth Bhava. (c) (d) If Taurus or Libra signs fall in seventh or fourth Bhava having Mars. If Gemini or Virgo sign falls in the second house occupied by Mars.

(e) (f) (g) (h) (i)

For Leo Lagna, if Mars joins seventh house. If Mars of own sign is in seventh, fourth, eighth or twelfth Bhava. If Mars joins the fourth house identical with Libra or Taurus. If eighth house Mars is in Sagittarius or Pisces. If twelfth house Mars is in Virgo, Gemini, Taurus or Libra.

Special Comments based on our own experience There are so many position of Mar s, where the Kuja Dosh appears to be cancelled according to many research schola rs. These views vary from scholar to scholar, but our experience is that evils o f Mars never get cancelled fully. The evils may at the most get reduced or minim ized if corrective measures are undertaken. We have observed Mars doing harm in all positions. So it is our sincere advice that we should not neglect Kuja Dosh. The intensity can and should be properly judged and weighed. For example, Mars in Leo in the 12th house will not be as harmful as Mars in Cancer in the 7th or 8th house. Evils of Mars or Kuja Dosh as discussed earlier are often wrongly understood by the common man that if a non-mangali gets married to a mangali partner, he or sh e will die as a result of that marriage. This is absolutely a false and misguidi ng view. If any of the partner dies or separation takes place, this does not nec essarily mean that either of the couple has Kuja Dosh. There are many other comb inations of planets leading to unhappy married life, discord and disharmony. We cannot blame Kuja Dosh only for all cases of tragedy in married life. Many writers have dealt with Kuja Dosh at length as applicable for each ascendan t. An essence of that is presented in this chapter. These two points should alwa ys be kept in mind :First, the position of Mars, where this has been said to be cancelled, neutraliz ed or becomes ineffective. If so placed Mars comes in opposition to Jupiter or i n association with Jupiter, the evils of Mars should be treated as many times in creased. Several case studies have proved it. This is dealt with in detail in th e chapter-Re-understanding of Jupiter in Marital Life. The second point worth considering is the position of Saturn in opposition or in association with Mars. This will also enhance the evils of Mars. Under such con ditions, rules of neutralization of Kuja Dosh do not hold good. Mars Fiery and Malefic It can thus be seen that Mangal Dosh is generated by malefic planets occupying c ertain positions at the time of the birth of an individual. In this the planet M ars or Mangal is the most fiery and depressing and hence the most feared. Astrol ogers of the world over see Mars as a heavenly body ever seeking collision with other planets and thereby affecting the mentality and behaviour of the individual it affects. Such subjects are affected in their inherent and in-built psychological make-up and not only themselves suffer in their life time, but cause incalculable miseri es in the life of those they are intimate with, the spouse, for example, but oth ers also. In extreme cases their tendencies and evil influence cause fatal injur ies resulting in the death of those who are in close contact with them. This psy chological basis to Mangal Dosh is widely accepted as one important aspect of th e malady. There is an interesting astronomical account as to how Mars came to be considere

d the most fearsome of heavenly bodies. This study was carried out by a Russian scientist who compared ancient accounts of cataclysmic event on Earth and came t o certain conclusions. According to Immanuel Velikovsky in Worlds in Collission (1950) the planet Ven us which had two close brushes with Earth in 2000 B.C. and 1400 B.C. (approximat ely a few years plus or minus) made its third wayward visitation in the orbit of Mars this time on March 23, 687 B.C. Mars being one eighth of the size of Venus was pulled out of its orbit into a new path in direct confrontation with Earth. The Earth was titled off its axis, so much so that the old calendar of 12 month s of 30 days each had to be redrawn into a 365 days year. In Velikovkys words : Although Mars did far less damage than Venus had some seven centuries earlier, i t now became a dominant fierce god in the pantheon on Mans heavenly force. Veli kovsky studying the Old Testament and other texts, relates that in 687 B.C. the Assyrian King Senna Cherib marched against Hezekiah, King of Judah, planning to capture Jerusalem. On the evening of March 23, the first night of the Behrew Pas sover, Mars unleashed a blast from heaven that, according to the Book of Chronic les left King and 185000 men of the invading army dead. That same night the Chinese recorded a great disturbance in the sky. Stars fell like rain, the Bamboo Books report. The Earth Shook. Accounts of these cataclysm ic events have been found recorded in far away lands as Greece, Egypt, China, In dia and Mexico and appear to be therefore authentic versions. Thus Mars came to be associated with war and for Romans, who celebrate March 23 as Mars ay., it became the God of War. The personality of persons born when Mars is in transit becomes war like, hot-headed inclined towards collision and destr uction. Hence the astronomical basis behind the concept of Mangal Dosh. Mars and Venus i n a particular birth chart cause innumerable passion related problem leading to love marriages, multi-love affairs, demeaning of character resulting in unhappin ess, break-ups of marriages and sometimes death of the spouse. Sexual aberration s and marital disharmony are the results of the evil nexus between Mars and Venu s. The above astronomical study relating to Venus confronting Mars seems to supp ort this theory. In sexual matters, Mars represents passion, creative force, circulation of vital force etc. Venus denotes the actual perception of the sexual act and attainment of pleasurable sensations. This seems to be corroborated by the astronomical ac count of the historical conjunction between Mars and Venus as given above. In co ntrast, Neptune and Ketu cause coldness and inactivity in sexual matters. If the y afflict Mars and Venus they cause resistance to sexual matters. Mars in Eighth House for Females Grave for Females : The position of Mars in a horoscope bears considerable signi ficance from many angles. The presence of Mars Dosh may cause marital delay, dis cord and disharmony, unless suitably matched. Sometimes some kind of Puja and ef fective Mantras are also required to curtail the evils of Mars. Presence of Ma rs Dosha in a female horoscope is as such not desirable. In our experience place ment of Mars in the 8th house is the worst disposition. Here in a few cases illu strate how Ashtam Mangali girls fare poorly in marital matters. Dr. B. Surya Narain Rao has mentioned in Stree Jataka that the 8th house from Lagna must be consulted for marital life and widowhood. In a womans chart the 8 th house from her Lagna reveals sexual passions, her husbands character, her fo rtune and general happiness.

Dr. B.V. Raman has also repeated this fact in Hindu Predictive Astrology Chapt er XXX on Female Horoscopy, that marital happiness must be adjudged from the 8th house. From 7th house passion, her husbands and her own character and fortune should be determined. Dr. B.V. Raman has pointed out following combinations for widowhood :1. Conjunction of the lords of 7th and 8th house with malefic combinations. 2. 3. Rahu and Moon in the 8th house will evil aspects. Lord of the 7th house with Saturn and aspected by Mars,

4. Moon and Rahu in the 8th house and the lord of the 7th house with Saturn aspected by Mars. 5. The conjunction of the lords of 1st and 8th houses in her 12th house wit h a malefic aspect of Mars on the 8th house. 6. The 7th house and its lord between two malefics without any beneficial a spects. In the horoscope of males, presence of Mars in the 8th house is not so harmful a s in the case of females, particularly in respect to the marital happiness. Before proceeding further it would be worthwhile to enumerate other results of M ars if it occupies 8th house in any horoscope. This position is an such bad for longevity and natural death. As Mars lends aspect over the second house, so usua lly eye problems arise. Eighth house represents the 8th part of the body, so the re will be Urinary troubles or problems in reproductive organs, piles or fistula or boil in anus may be expected. There is a fear of fire, injury or cut etc. Th ere will be innumerable physical complaints, rheumatism and often a disturbed fa mily life and only few children. One will usually be devoid a true friends, whil e many friends may turn inimical. He will have to face obstacles in his endeavou rs and success will be attained only after a hard labour. This is not a good dis position of fathers longevity as 8th house is 12th from 9th. It is well known that the 8th house governs Mangalya or marital happiness of f emales. A girl should be treated as strongest Mangali if Mars is positioned in t he 8th house of her horoscope. As regards the Kuja Dosh in the female native, we have observed that presence of Mars Dosh in the 8th, 7th and the Lagna mostly c auses havocs. Severity of Mars Dosh is maximum when Mars is in 8th house. Mars o ften causes obstructions to a timely marriage. What does Mars do after Marriage A few of the probabilities of presence of Mar s in 8th house in respect to marital life are given below :1. There will be separation from husband, if marriage has taken place aroun d 21 years. There will be reunion or reconciliation around 28th year or, otherwi se there will be a litigation after marriage and will be finalized around 28th y ear. 2. The husband may receive some injury due to accident or his health may su ffer seriously. Mental troubles to husband are most likely to take place. 3. The husband will expire soon after marriage in a tragic way or will suff er seriously. 4. There will be a serious danger in very unbalanced marital life. Exact na ture of the sorrow depends on the exact set up of planets and needs study and pr actical experience.

Who will be harmed more, the husband or wife - Kuja Dosh must be got balanced wh ile matching the horoscope. If the difference is around 25%, the marriage will b e happy. There will not be must harm even if 50% difference is there. But in a d ifference of more than 50% of Kuja Dosh, marriage should not be permitted. If a heavier Kuja Dosh is present in the horoscope of wife, the wife will suffer more . She will have to face tragedies of life. If the husband has a heavier Kuja Dos h, he will suffer more, Generally ones Kuja Dosh harms the partner but the trag edy is to be suffered by the affected person more heavily. Many say that Kuja Dosh works only till 28th year of age. I agree with it but on ly partial Kuja Dosh gets reduced after 28th year of age. Saturn and Jupiters a spect or association with Mars increases Kuja Dosh. Kuja Dosh - Mars Affliction Affecting Married Life Mars in the 1st house, unless posited in Aries. Mars in the 4th, unless posited in Scorpio. Mars in the 7th, unless posited in Capricorn or Pisces. Mars in the 8th, unless posited in Cancer Mars in the 12th, unless posited in Sagittarius. Kuja Dosh, or Mars affliction, is an astrological condition which negatively aff ects a persons married life and domestic harmony. It is also one of the few ast rological terms familiar to the Indian public. It occurs when Mars is in the 1st , 4th, 7th, 8th, or 12th house unless it is posited in a sign designated as an e xception for that particular house. The reason kuja Dosh is so well known in Ind ia is that nearly all parents there consult an astrologer before arranging a mar riage for their child. This is done, to a great extent, in order to find out if the condition exists so they may take measures to neutralize the problem before it has a chance to create misery. The effect of Kuja Dosh is to cause the person to be somehow victimized in his marriage. This can, of course, occur in any num ber of ways, but ultimately one is likely to end up divorced and generally throu gh no obvious fault of ones own. The person will also have to endure hardships in the marriage generated by the spouse. The way out of this problem is for a person with Kuja Dosh to marry another who also has it. A person with Kuja Dosh does not have the nature to victimize his s pouse, and therefore if both partners have the condition, its effect is neutrali zed. This is a simple procedure in India, where, until only very recently, all m arriages were arranged at an early age. However, for Westerners Kuja Dosh presen ts a major obstacle because of the way the condition works in relation tour cult ure, where a person chooses his own spouse. The mechanics of Kuja Dosh are such that it causes a person to be attracted to a partner who by his very nature cann ot blend or function compatibly for any great length of time with that person. T herefore, one is quite simply at the mercy of his fate. Yet perhaps the most sig nificant problem is that a person with Kuja Dosh will not feel much physical att raction or any special chemistry for another who also has the condition. Therefo re, even with the knowledge of this situation, a Westerner is destined for troub le unless he is wise or patient enough to find a mate who also has Kuja Dosh, ev en though the great excitement most people seek may be missing. Kuja Dosh (also known as Mangal Dosh, since Mangal is another name for Mars) is a reliable astrological indicator and often reveals which partner out of a divor ced couple was most put upon, deceived, or betrayed. It should also be mentioned that there are astrologers who consider the conditio n to occur when Mars is in the 2nd house rather than the 1st. The author does no

t agree with this school of thought, especially since Mars in the 1st negatively aspects the 7th, which is the house of marriage.
