Our campus staff and security personnel do an outstanding job every day ensuring that the learning environment remains safe. When issues of concern are brought to our attention, we feel it is important to share them with you so that appropriate steps can be taken. The purpose of this letter is to notify you of an incident that occurred on Tuesday, December 4, 2012. A student was found to have a loaded firearm in his backpack during school. The situation was reported to Officer Frank Webb, on-site Dallas ISD Police Officer, for immediate investigation. The weapon was secured without incident. There were no breaches of safety or disruptions to the school day. The student was removed from the campus and administration has taken appropriate disciplinary action. We will meet with students and remind them that only school-related items should be bought to school. Just a reminder, clear or mesh backpacks are the only bags permitted on campus. As stated in our student handbook, page 10, the following items are prohibited at Kennedy-Curry Middle School: Food, candy, drinks, gum Rat tail combs, afro picks Hoodies Lotion, Perfume, Hair Sprays, Nail Polish, Make up Kits Purses/Book Bags Bangles/Bracelets Hats, Caps, Scarves or Head Wraps Cargo Pants/Shorts Blankets
