“In addition, we provide recycling of
the material resulting from the demoli-
tion, which must be disassembled into its
component parts and sorted,” the compa-
ny explains. “Our equipment operators
are committed to excellence and perform
tasks with no exhaust fumes, no vibra-
tion injuries, have good operator visibili-
ty and an insignificant risk of serious
injury from falling objects.”
J.P. Hogan also specializes in core drilling
methods, it says. “Core drilling methods are
widely used in underground utilities con-
struction, most commonly manhole taps,
underground vault taps, and wherever
sewer, water, steam, air or communication
lines pass through a concrete or brick struc-
ture,” J.P. Hogan explains. “Drilling depths
are virtually unlimited with the use of our
barrel extensions.”
The company performs a variety of
concrete sawing work, as well. “The virtu-
ally dustless, vibration-free cutting ability
of a wall saw has made pneumatic break-
ing obsolete,” J.P. Hogan explains. “Another
added benefit of the wall saw is that it
causes no structural damage while cutting
openings in concrete walls. The conven-
ience of sawing and completely removing
many openings in one day cannot be
accomplished by any other method. Speed,
efficiency and silence of cutting are an
invaluable asset when modifications are
required in occupied structures.”
Wire sawing has become a preferred
method for cutting thick concrete struc-
tures. “The wire has a steel core of strands
and can be almost any length,” the compa-
ny explains. “Beads are separated by either
small springs, plastic or rubber, depending
on the type of wire and manufacturer. The
wire is positioned over the pulleys and fed
through pre-drilled holes in the concrete
that is being cut and back over the drive
pulley.”

and diverse capabilities allow it to per-
form work for a number of high-profile

clients and projects. In fact, J.P. Hogan
was enlisted to assist in the Ground Zero
cleanup efforts in New York City. The
company reinforced the slurry contain-
ment wall for the project.
“J.P. Hogan’s skilled professional opera-
tors completed core drilling using 12-inch-
diameter cores on a 48-inch heavy rebar
wall,” the company explains. “Skilled oper-
ators are trained to cut at any angle,
including 45 degrees.”
Healthcare Experience
In addition, the firm says it performed
work for a major hospital in Queens,
N.Y. Steel I-beams had to be drilled out
to retrofit emergency room fire sprin-
klers. “Due to their location, the I-beams
could not be burned out,” J.P. Hogan
explains.
“Specially designed diamond core bits
were used to drill the holes. It was vital
that skilled technicians do not compro-
mise the integrity of the existing I-beam.
Utilizing a special adapter to center and
stabilize the core bit, technicians drill per-
fect six-inch holes through two-inch steel
I-beams.” ■
