THE CADILLAC FAIRVIEW CORP. LTD./ELLISDON CORP. – SHOPS AT DON MILLS

In addition to the retail side, “We’re

also working on an art project for the
new parkette on the northeast corner of
the site,” Morash says, adding that in
winter months, the Shops at Don Mills
will have ice skating in its Town Square.
“After the opening of the retail phase,
Cadillac Fairview, along with the FRAM
Building Group, will develop quality resi-
dences for all walks of life at the Shops
at Don Mills site,” Morash says. “The resi-
dential plan, known as the Residences at
Don Mills, includes the construction of
six building complexes, plus one conver-
sion project, for a total of over 1,300 resi-
dential units. The development of the
Residences at Don Mills will be phased
over seven years, starting with two build-
ings. The subsequent developments will
take place over several years, and will
include a 48,000-square-foot public park
and recreation center.”

Meeting the Challenges

For the project, Cadillac Fairview has uti-
lized EllisDon Corp. as the general con-
tractor. “At peak, there were 265 construc-
tion workers on site,” Finlay says, noting
that the project has faced unusual chal-
lenges in the past year, including from
the weather.
“Last winter was one of the harshest on
record in Toronto, with an inordinate num-
ber of snow storms, record amounts of
snow and sub-zero temperatures impacting
construction efforts,” he explains. “Further-
more, the summer was the wettest on
record, creating significant problems with
