Hurricane Warning for Bristol and Newport Residents

Hurricane Isaac Hurricane Isaac is currently of Hurricane strength and is set to make landfall this Tuesday, August 28th 2012 in Rhode Island. It is expected to affect the coastal areas, including Bristol and Newport in particular. What To Expect 30-40 mph Winds 5-6 inches of rain per day, falling from Tuesday night until Thursday afternoon. Power Outages starting Tuesday, and lasting through the weekend. Flooding will begin to materialize Wednesday afternoon. How To Prepare Stock Up on water, non-perishable food, flashlights, batteries candles, and matches. Residents should have a Transistor Radio with Batteries, to keep current on the latest hurricane and storm reports. Fill Up on gas. If you own a car, make sure the tank is full before the storm hits. Contact your insurance provider if you currently own waterfront property. Research proper evacuation routes in case of immediate evacuation. How To Act Call 911 in case of any emergency In the event of an emergency, residents may head to The Bristol Emergency Shelter, located at the Elder Care Community Center at the corner of Wood and Franklin Streets. Store valuables in high places. Move boats and trailers close to your home. Mobile home residents should evacuate their homes. Move trash-cans, and other loose materials inside. Close drapes, blinds, or shades to keep shattered glass from spreading.
