NATIONAL SEMINAR ON

CONTEMPORARY MANAGEMENT PRACTICES 2013

JANUARY 19, 2013 JAGANNATH University Rajasthan, Jaipur
Continuing with our tradition of increased interaction with Corporate and building awareness among budding managers, JaganNath University Jaipur hosts 3rd National Seminar BizMage-13 on Contemporary Management Practices: A Holistic Vision through Sustainable Development, a series of guest talks on Sustainability issues and challenges in India' and Strategic Approach towards Sustainability. Growing environmental concerns, coupled with public pressure and stricter regulations, are changing the way people do business across the world. Industry is on a three-stage journey from environmental compliance, through environmental risk management, to long-term sustainable development strategies. In the initial phase of the journey, the need to comply with environmental regulations drives improvements in environmental performance. Sustainability has emerged as a result of significant concerns about the unintended social, environmental, and economic consequences of rapid population growth, economic growth and consumption of our natural resources. The international community recognizes that every countrys legal and policy environment is of paramount importance to its response for emerging global threats and opportunities related to sustainable development. Over 190 countries have signed global treaties on sustainable development in the last two decades, yet few countries have been able to reform their legal frameworks consistent with international law and best practices. In international treaty law, sustainable development is an agreed objective of many international treaties, both at the global and regional levels.

A HOLISTIC VISION THROUGH SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

Developing countries, in particular, need support to overcome the many obstacles on the road to a global green economy. Currently, India is experiencing rapid and widespread environmental degradation at alarming rates. Tremendous pressure is placed upon the country's land and natural resources to support the massive overpopulation. Although Indian companies are proactive towards sustainable issues, there are still many issues inclusive employment, education, employment creation, health, corporate/government collaboration, land and displacement, natural resource management, climate change, corporate governance, solid waste and water to be addressed by them. Business strategies for sustainable development mark the final phase in the journey. The aim is to seek win-win situations which can achieve environmental quality, increase wealth, and enhance competitive advantage. Companies have started integrating sustainable development into their business strategies. Sustainable development is a natural extension of many corporate environmental policies. In the pursuit of economic, environmental and community benefits, management considers the long-term interests and needs of the stakeholders. Results may include new business processes with reduced external impacts, improved financial performance, and an enhanced reputation among communities and stakeholders. We hope that the participants of this seminar would learn to integrate corporate strategy and culture of sustainable growth. Our humble endeavour is to make the participants expose and learn how to manage the interface between challenges and opportunities, strategy, marketplace and technology without compromising on sustainability concerns.
