2011 2012 Annual Education Results Report

MessagefromtheBoardChair
After experiencing an expected implementation dip during the 2009 2010 school year, it would appear that the Fort McMurray Public School District has rebounded extremely well. Our system went from three (3) blue ratings to an astonishing eleven (11), representing a 366% increase in our very high to excellent ratings. The diligent work of district staff is paying off with student improvement in twelve of sixteen categories. With the backdrop of student improvement through district initiatives such as, First Steps, Stepping Out and Differentiated Instruction and maintaining our vision of Inspiring and Engaging Students for Lifelong Learning, we are certainly on the road to educational success for all. However, the district will not be satisfied nor rest on its laurels; new initiatives combined with established supports must fuel our desire for continuous improvement. The challenges that lie before us are not for the faint of heart; we must be risk-takers, out of the box thinkers and above all be listeners to all our stakeholders, especially our students. We must continue our efforts to; retain staff, promote high school completion, reduce drop out rates, fine tune a 21st century technology plan, promote cultural awareness and continually research better ways of doing our core business; Student Achievement. Having celebrated the opening of our new school, cole McTavish, the Board strongly believes we have a great team of dedicated staff who will meet the challenge and continue to implement our strategic initiatives over the coming year. We congratulate our staff on an outstanding results report and look forward to continued progress over the 2011 2012 school year. Sincerely,

Jeff Thompson Board Chair
