The Questioner: (1 part)

I wonder 8/23 I wonder about the rapture a lot. I wonder about being left behind. I dont want to be obviously. But I do a lot of bad things according to the Bible. I never go to church, and rarely even pray. I wonder why obesity is such an issue in our culture; PUT DOWN THE FRENCH FRIES! I wonder if our football team will even be worth watching. If not Im going to have to transfer. I wonder why sororities and fraternities are how some people are identified. This demonstrates curiosity. Im curious about the rapture, obesity, UNCC football, and Greek life. And curiosity always leads to questioning.

This demonstrates creative thinking. I was brainstorming for my Extended Inquiry Project. I wrote down whatever came to mind and tried to bring out my creative side by writing as quickly as possible. Wordle Freewrite 9/6 I am: tall, strong, beautiful, honest, intuitive, crazy, silly, dysfunctional, contradictive, stubborn, powerful, a go-getter, and caring. I feel strongly about: our military, government, leaders, school, food, exercise, Christianity, abortion, and marijuana legalization. If money were no object, I would be a: zookeeper, teacher, lawyer, doctor, photographer, graphic designer, and entrepreneur. This is a creative daybook entry because I had to talk well of myself, as well as admit to things like being stubborn and dysfunctional. The wordle that we went on to make after this daybook entry was very creative. We were able to pick our on colors, theme, and font. It was really a good expression of who I am. Brainstorming Subtopics 9/18 -Emotional effects of fast food -Long term effects -#1 cause of obesity -personality -do advertisements on TV effect children These were subtopics I was curious about for my Extended Inquiry Project. Not all of these topics made it into my actual paper but the were some creative additions to it. Provocative Inquiry Question (not dated) -America is too fat -Are you fat? -Go eat your Chickfila, fatass. -YOU NEED TO BE ON A DIET -Put down the cheeseburger and nobody gets hurt! While most of my creative thinking entries are lists, I think that makes it more of a spur-of-the-moment, write-faster kind of entry. So I tend to think less, making my entries more creative from my point of view.

Analytical Thinker: (2 parts)

Topic Proposal Freewrite 9/11 My topic is on how detrimental fast food is on children. It is the leading cause for obesity among teenagers. Ive read a bunch of articles online specifically explaining the problems they are causing children. I have read blog and discussion forums actually defending why its okay to eat fast food for a week straight! (Solely for entertainment purposes) I hope to learn the long-term effects that eating fast food

will have on me and I hope to try and keep parents from feeding their children fast food. Healthy lifestyle Fast food addict Obese-aphobic Love children. This is an analytical journal entry because it is my research to date, and why I chose the topic I did. We had to break down what we have done and what the topic means to us. Directly below the entry is a list of why this topic is specifically important to me. Outline 10/29 I. Intro a. How has fast food changed over time? b. Are fast food companies really to blame for obesity? c. How does fast food intake effect your lifestyle? II. Evolution of fast food a. Going out to east used to be a treat b. Preservatives and fillers c. American Lifestyle (9-5 Job) d. Its cheaper to eat out now than it ever has been before III. Lifestyle a. Dormant b. Antisocial c. Technological d. No people skills This analytical entry put my paper into the categories in which I was going to write it (at that time). It forced me to put everything into a box and write my paper that way. I didnt particularly want to do that. If Im doing an exploratory essay, I want may paper to be more creative and curious, and not have as many rules.

Reflective Letter: (1 part)

From Degrading to De-grading 8/25 This essay does make total sense to me. I completely agree that school is just a bunch-o-facts and a chore rather than a place to learn and grow as a student. I am guilty of just learning the material I have to know for the test or exam and not actually thinking twice about why it happened or how it happens. I do agree that we need to improve the learning styles of teachers; I still think grades need to be given. Not on each individual assignment maybe, but on the chapter as a whole. On how well you were eager to learn about the material and put forth effort to understand material. I think we still need grades in order to make the college application process easier. Portfolios are a great way to show colleges how well you can perform.

Schools and universities couldnt possibly interview if we didnt have a grading system. This essay is laid out very nicely and is easy to understand. The topics and subtopics make it easier to speed-read. The author is writing to every student, teacher, and administrator; and makes it very clear that it is every bodies responsibility to make learning better. This reflective essay is the first one we did this semester. Our instructor always chose interesting articles for us to read outside of class so it made the homework a little more bearable. I reflected on how I felt about the paper, what the author was trying to get across, and how the essay was laid out.

My favorite daybook entry: (1 part)

Mind + Heart + World Around You 9/9 Question: What intrigues your mind? Answer: Things like listening to others be so passionate about what they believe in. Listening to people be so angry and intense standing up for what they feel is right. I dont ever have anything to say in return; I have no desire to voice my thoughts or retaliations, I just enjoy listening. I love listening to peoples success stories. How they made a name for themselves out of nothing, It helps me set my goals high and know that they can be reached. At the same time, I love hearing about other peoples failures. I dont love it when people fail! I just learn from other people all the time, about how not to be. Because Im determined to be great one day. Im not sure how. But Ive got determination, so Im halfway there. Question: What matters to you? Answer: My family is what matters to me. I love them so dearly. I learn from then everyday. Whether its patience or compassion. My God is what matters to me. Im not always right on track. But I love my Heavenly Father and know Hes always there for me. My dogs matter to me. Dogs are like therapy. They listen even though you dont say anything. Dogs and humans have a special bond that is unlike any other animal and human relationship. Question: What do you pay attention to? Answer: I pay attention to people. I could sit in front of McEniry all day and just watch everyone. I pay attention to how people walk, how they dress, how they do their hair, how they wear their backpack, what shoes they wear, etc. I pay attention to how couples interact, how they talk, whether theyre holding hands, smiling, arguing, what have you. I watch reality TV all the time because I want to watch how people (kind of) act in real life. This is my favorite journal entry because I basically made it like a diary. This is technically three entries, divided by each question. I basically spilled the beans on how

I think. I am a very complex individual, and I over think everything. And this proves that entirely.
