THE DLSU-STC LOGO

Like chemical elements going through various processes to be produced, the De La Salle UniversityScience and Technology Complex is engaged in a dynamic, constant process of pushing the boundaries of knowledge in the fields of science and technology.

The logo reflects the concept of innovation, as the circles representing the elements are rendered beyond borders, to connote the formation of the next great idea.

2401 (twente fr,o, wun) is a landmark number along Taft Avenue. It is the location ID of De La Salle University, home to outstanding faculty and students, and birthplace of luminaries in business, public service, education, the arts, and science. And 2401 is the name of the official newsletter of DLSU, featuring developments and stories of interest about the University.

STARTING ACADEMIC YEAR 20132014, De La Salle University will have

a new campus at the heart of Laguna

Technopark dubbed as the De La Salle University Science and Technology Complex (DLSU-STC). see page 3

Groundwork begins, from page 1 In two separate assemblies held last March 28 at the North Conservatory, students, together with parents, and faculty members, together with employees, engaged in a discussion with DLSU administrators on the establishment of the new campus. DLSU President and Chancellor Br. Narciso Erguiza, Jr. FSC presented the details of the Universitys new endeavor, which includes the strategic process that will be used to establish the campus, and the strategic intents that must be addressed. Moreover, Br. Jun gave the community a list of the short-term and long-term goals of the University for the new campus. Members of the Lasallian community have expressed their concerns about this new project such as issues on relocation and risk assessment, to name a few. Br. Jun clearly expressed that all these concerns will be taken into account and that the administrators will continue to have dialogues with the Universitys different sectors for consultation. The DLSU Science and Technology Complex, formerly De La Salle-Canlubang, will officially be launched on June 15 during the Centennial Culminating Week Celebration.

Creating the next great idea

AS A KEY RESOURCE FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY in the country, the DLSU-STC will underscore
the Lasallian tradition that integrates faith and service through knowledge generation. This vision for DLSU-STC is emphasized by DLSU-STC Integration Committee member Dr. Raymund Sison, in a report detailing the strategic process for the S&T Complex. Approved by the Presidents Council last February 12, the process is described as collaborative, transformative, integrative, and incremental. Stressing the importance of collaboration, the paper notes the need for stakeholders from all sectors to work together to solve Integration, another key strategic quality, refers primarily to the consolidation of plans or solutions so that they make up one coherent whole. With the community putting together ideas, plans, and concepts, it becomes both mission-centered and market smart. During this stage, marking progress with milestones is important. On strategic incrementalism, the paper explains that all long-term goals necessitate a periodic revisiting of ones progress. An example is that the implementation of a 10-year strategic architecture will need a strategy for each increment of 2-3 years.

THE GROUNDWORK IS UNDERWAY for the

establishment of DLSU-STC next school year. This includes improvement of physical infrastructure, creation of working groups, re-ranking of DLSC faculty using the DLSU Faculty Manual, review of DLSC curriculum and syllabi, preparation of marketing collaterals, and consultations and dialogues with stakeholders. The existing programs of DLSC in the fields of engineering, IT and computing, management and

entrepreneurship, information and communication studies, and arts and sciences will be retained. However, these will be modified to reflect the S&T character of the school. By A.Y. 2016-17, it is envisioned that DLSU-STC will offer new and highly specialized programs. With the strengthening of existing programs and introduction of new ones, DLSU-STC is expected attract the best and the brightest students.

The growth of De La Salle University

LIKE THE NINE CHRISTIAN BROTHERS WHO TOOK A LEAP OF FAITH when they established the first
La Salle school in the country in 1911, the Lasallian community is also keeping its faith in the future, with the establishment of the De La Salle University Science and Technology Complex. With this great vision, the University is devoting its energies and resources to make the place a major resource for national development.

problems. This is particularly applicable in the University setting where key players are usually highly independent and intelligent. The paper also points out the need for the process to be transformative on a personal and institutional level, with everyone buying into the same vision. Questions, doubts, or hesitations from stakeholders will be encouraged to get everyone on the same plane.

Future resource of outstanding students and faculty

Over the years, population density in DLSU on Taft Avenue has increased to over a hundredfold. To support growth in research and to hold various student activities, DLSU would need a considerable amount of space something that DLSU-STC offers. Manufacturing companies and commercial centers contribute to the vibrancy and dynamism in the area where DLSU-STC is located

with commercial and leisure activities. This urban/suburban mix is expected to provide momentum for the migration to the Complex. Its location at the heart of the Laguna Technopark is reason enough to be hopeful that many research engagements can be made possible. Students are seen to benefit from such collaborations. The proximity of existing industries in the area is expected to give students advantage in preparing for their future careers.

Complex targets a high concentration of top students and outstanding faculty for its roster. DLSU President and Chancellor Br. Narciso Erguiza, Jr. FSC emphasized the need for a high degree of selectivity in the Leandro V. Locsin Campus as it enters the initial phase of integration with the University.

It will be necessary to creatively design an approach to selectivity that does not run counter to the Lasallian tradition of providing marginalized students with access to Lasallian education, he said. He added, Our refocusing on faculty development in the next five years

Was it clear during this past year that you esteemed God? Have you often admired Gods infinite greatness? Were you filled with profound respect at the vision of Gods sublime perfections? Have you remembered that God is present everywhere? Have you realized your own nothingness with a feeling of adoration at the thought of the presence of God?
