Journal writing. What I did on the weekend. Have a share time and have students talk about what they did on their weekend. Brainstorm this on the white board for reference. Model how you will do your journal writing on the large dotted thirds paper. Focus: Recount. Say your sentence then write it. Starting with a capital letter and ending with a full stop when you have finished saying your sentence.

Turn it up Tuesday: Using a visual prompt Student will add to a sentence to up level it. They will add gradually so that the sentence gets bigger. Having a visual prompt will cue ideas about what to write.

Per assessment. I want to Picnic smick nick. know what you know about There were a group of teddies at the park. They were getting sharing or division. hungry. One teddy yelled out, hey lets all have a picnic. Another said, why is it that just because we are teddy bears everyone thinks we always have a picnic? Why dont we go to the teddy bear cafe? All the teddies thought that was a fantastic idea so they went to the cafe. At the cafe there were tables. At the tables the same number of teddies sat at each table. Using pictures, numbers and words show how many teddies were at each table and how many tables there are altogether. Group 1: Working with simple numbers of teddies and tables. And concrete materials. Group 2: As above with concrete materials. Group 3: As above without concrete materials. However if need, available.

The same number of items can be shared in different groups with different amounts in each group. You will need paper plates and pasta. Sit the children in groups varying numbers of groups; 4 students in the group 8 students in another group 6 students in another group 3 students in another group 2 students in another group. (you will need to use various groupings of students depending on the number in your class on that day) Give each child a paper plate. In the middle of each group, place 24 pieces of pasta. You may want children to check there are 24 pieces of pasta before you begin. Ask the children to share the pasta pieces so that everyone has the same. How many does each person get? For each group emphasise the following: How many pieces of pasta? How many plates (people)? How many pieces of pasta did each person get? Who can work out why we had different results for different groups? What about if we had 24 pieces of pasta and 12 people?
