Form Panel in the PDF Converter Assistant

The Form panel appears in the PDF Converter Assistant if Form is selected in the drop-down list of the Mode tool, or Form is selected in the Options menu.

The following options can be chosen in this panel: Form Controls, Retain Hyperlinks, Processing Options and Handling Graphics. Create Form Controls Select this option to detect form elements in a source file and reproduce these elements in Microsoft Word as fillable form fields. Deselect this option to conserve the form layout but without active form controls being generated. You can then insert active controls in Microsoft Word. Deselect this also if you want to modify the form contents before activating it. Note PDF Professional tries to detect form elements (checkboxes, edit boxes and horizontal lines) in source files with image processing methods. The program will not detect circles, or other irregular shapes. Please create these shapes in Microsoft Word. Form controls in a resulting Word file may have a different appearance from those in the source file. The program does not detect form controls already defined in the source file.

Notes Form conversion uses the Logical Form Recognition technology designed to analyze and reproduce form elements. Form conversion lets you transform source files with form-like layout and content into editable Word documents. The OCR Settings dialog box serves for a language selection. About Processing Modes and Options


Processing Modes There are four processing modes that you can choose from. Select a processing mode on the basis of the characteristics of your document type to be converted. To select a processing mode, use the Options menu or the drop-down list of the Mode tool. This tool may have different appearance on the toolbar depending on the selection in its drop-down list:

Characteristics of the document type The pages have body text and maybe contain titles, columns, tables and pictures. E.g. business letters, newspaper articles. The pages have single-column text, and might contain pleading numbers in the left margin. The pages contain mainly tables or spreadsheets (with a tabular layout). E.g. financial sheets, inventories. The pages have spaces, edit boxes, comb boxes, checkmarks and similar elements for collecting information. E.g. application forms

Note The selected processing mode may automatically be changed by the program if you select an output format which is not supported by the selected processing mode. PDF Professional keeps the processing mode and the output format synchronized. Processing Options

The default processing mode is Standard Document. Click Standard Document to display its processing options. To select another processing mode and display its panel with the processing options, click the arrow beside the Mode tool. There are general and document-type specific processing options on each panel. The values given are stored separately for each processing mode. Optimizing PDF
Optimizing a PDF file lets you create a copy with changed properties, that are more suitable for particular purposes. It also allows you to balance file size against display quality. Select Tools > Optimize PDF for a dialog box with the following panels:

First, specify the compatibility level and choose from the following compression options. Optimize PDF for fast web view: Objects are prioritized so texts display quickly and heavy [What does this mean?] pictures later. Use Flate to encode non-encoded streams and use it instead of LZW to reduce stream size. Remove document structure by eliminating tag information. Remove private data from other applications, such as embedded thumbnails, and invalid bookmarks and links:. these These can be useless items, they and do not affect the appearance of the PDF file. "Discard all" options: Comments: Deletes all comments added to the PDF. Comments include notes, markups, drawing objects as well as file and sound attachments. Form actions, JavaScript actions: If the PDF has interactive features (for example buttons for sending a form somewhere), but these that are not needed, they can be deleted. External cross-references: If the PDF has links to other files that will not be available to other users, these links can be eliminated. Alternate images: An image in the PDF file can have "alternate" images which are optional and can be deleted. For example, a color image can have a gray alternate image which is used for printing instead of the color image. The alternate image is only a plus, and the file can be used without it.
