STATE AND NATIONAL FREE-MARKET GROUPS TO SENATOR GRAHAM:

NO TAX HIKES
November 29, 2012 The Honorable Lindsey Graham United States Senate 290 Russell Senate Office Building Washington, DC 20510 Dear Senator Graham: On behalf of the millions of Americans and hundreds of thousands of South Carolinians who are members and supporters of our organizations, we are writing to urge you to honor your written commitment to South Carolina taxpayers and to the American people to "oppose any and all efforts to increase the marginal income tax rates" and to "oppose any net reduction or elimination of deductions and credits, unless matched dollar for dollar by further reducing tax rates." Washington's problem is that it spends too much, not that it taxes too little. Any tax increase, moreover, would only give politicians more money to spend, making it more difficult to achieve spending cuts. In fact, historical analysis by Professor Richard Vedder of Ohio University found that for every $1 Congress raises taxes, it increases spending by $1.17, worsening the deficit. You were elected on an iron-clad, written commitment to oppose any net tax increase. We urge you to honor that commitment. Reversing on such a fundamental issue would be a disservice to your constituents. Sincerely,
