The Marxist-Leninist theory of society: Identity and Diversity of Social Development in the West and East; V.D. Zotov; Progress Publishers, Moscow; 1985; 326 pages This book was originally written in Russian, which was then translated to English by David Skvirsky. Author is an ardent writer on communism where he has written books on the same topic. This book has been specifically devoted to the Marxist-Leninist theory where he takes on the theory from the scratch and provides its complete understanding. As he believes that Marxist-Leninist theory is the science treating of the most general laws and motive forces of societys development, he starts off by materialistic understanding of history. This synthesis of historical materialism and scientific communism allows us to get a better perception of the well-known proposition that materialistic understanding of history is the biggest achievement of Karl Marx and Frederick Engels. And then explains the importance of the theory in the contemporary times where it has been modified relative to the society and other factors.
