SAP Business Objects v4.

0 Architecture
SAP has introduced new term and technology with its latest release of Business Objects v4.0 . There are changes in the "Business Objects 4.0 Architecture" as well. Business Objects 4.0 Architecture is 6 Layer Architecture.

1. 64-bit server Architecture. 2. 64-bit database middle-ware support. 3. Server components are 64-bit applications that requiring 64-bit Server OS therefore 4. Java Application server utilizing 64-bit JDKs (Java Development Kit). 5. Desktop products and client tools support Windows 32-bit and 64-bit OS platforms. 6. Allows handling large reports: no more 2 GB memory limitation. 7. web application server and BI4 webapps in front 8. BI4 servers in the back 9. and BI4 repository database at the bottom. 10.Still using CORBA for inter-server communication. 11.Integrated platform monitoring 12.Advanced auditing capabilities 13.Supportability and root-cause analysis 14.New Server Service: DSL used fo accessing SAP Bex queries (via BICS) 15.New Server Service for CVOM/graphical engine for Webi 16. Complete Server Configuration backup now possible via CCM. Here are the changes on the client tools: 17.Web Intelligence does not support the SDK in the 4.0 version. 18.Desktop Intelligence does not exist anymore 19.All the Crystal Reports will be updated to the CR 2011 version The swf files coming from Xcelsius 2008 will continue to work, but a conversation is necessary in order to have access to dashboard designs new functionalities. 21.Explorer does not support the information space on universes of UNV format anymore. New addition Services: The integration kits (SAP,PeopleSoft,etc) are included in the installation except for Sharepoint which will come later

The term server is used to describe an operating system level process hosting one or more services. For example, the Central Management Server (CMS) and Adaptive Processing Server are servers. A server runs under a specific operating system account and has its own PID. A service is a server subsystem that performs a specific function. The service runs within the memory space of its server under the process id of the parent container (server). For example, the SAP BusinessObjects Interactive Analysis Scheduling and Publishing Service is a subsystem that runs within the Adaptive Job Server.
