VOICE OVER/AUDIO 1 Come 2013, the National Statistics Office will once again conduct the Census of Philippine Business and Industries (CPBI) 2 The 2012 Census of Philippine Business and Industries or CPBI will be the 15th in the series of economic censuses in the country. 3 The last CPBI was undertaken in 2006 while the first census of its kind was part of the Economic Census of 1903. In 1972, CPBI then was referred to as the Census of Establishments. 4 The CPBI aims to: 1) Collect and generate information on the levels, structure and trends of economic activities in the entire country; 2) Gather data on employment and compensation, revenue and expense, assets and capital expenditure of establishments, among others, and produce variables on these data. 5 The statistical information that the CPBI provides are primarily useful in: 1) measuring and comparing national, regional and provincial economic growth; 2) planning and policy formulation 3) market research, industry studies and other economic analysis

5 The 2012 CPBI is a nationwide undertaking and will cover establishments in the formal sector. 6 The formal sector is comprised of: 1) Corporations and partnerships; 2) Cooperatives and Foundations; 3) Single Proprietorships with ten or more employees and those with branches. 7 All existing establishments in the country that are engaged in economic activities as classified in the 2009 Philippine Standard Industrial Classification will be covered by the 2012 CPBI such as: 8 9 1 0 1 1 1 2 1 3 1 4 Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing, Manufacturing, Wholesale and Retail Trade; Repair of Motor Vehicles and Motorcycles, Accommodation and Food Service, Information and Communication, Financial and Insurance Activities and Education

2 Eight types of questionnaires are suggested to 0 be utilized for the nationwide undertaking 2 1 2 2 A common enterprise questionnaire and

seven sectoral questionnaires.

2 The questionnaires will be delivered personally to 3 sample establishments by trained NSO field men and hired statistical researchers beginning April 2013. 2 CD copy of questionnaires will also be included to

4 allow establishments to respond electronically. 2 Copy of the questionnaires in portable document 5 format (pdf file) will also be uploaded on the NSO Website to allow sample establishments to download and respond to the survey. 2 Collection of the questionnaires will be from May 6 to June 2013 2 We would like to assure our respondents that all 7 information from the census will be held strictly confidential as guaranteed by Section 4 of Commonwealth Act No. 591. 2 The NSO summarizes individual responses into 8 statistical tables to serve as a quantitative portrait of sectoral structures and trends at the national and regional levels. 2 The preliminary results of the 2012 CPBI will be 9 made available starting March 2014. 3 Final tables are targeted to be released starting 0 October 2014. 3 The final results of the 2012 CPBI will be in 1 electronic and print copies in individual volumes covering 18 major economic sectors. An economy-wide publication will also be prepared. 3 The NSO announces the conduct of the 2012 CPBI 2 this early so we can prepare for the nationwide undertaking and once again call on your support and cooperation.
