Andrea H. Peaflorida

This theme discuss the next topics: new options open to the language assessing, how to respond students writing and learner autonomy in the process. According to the writer she says that she have noticed the performance in the teachers, at the moment of asses to student leave much to be desired .Some of the reason is because some teachers teach in the same way that they were taught, so this come to be a chain or in other case is for their beliefs. There a huge list of some practices that the teacher find difficult to do away and this can confuse and disorient the students. But not only the teachers have responsibilities at the moment of asses but also students need to realize that the task is made by him and this is a good way they can see the aspects that they need to improve. As a teacher we need to give good feedback to the students. With the purpose to be clear about what we are talking about, I am going to explain the following key terms: Non-traditional, non-traditional means that exists other ways to evaluate students as we know some years ago most of the teacher evaluate the students with the traditional system, with exam now we have other alternatives. Assessment, it means gather information about the performance of the students, how much they have improved their knowledge, abilities, understanding, attitudes or attainments. Response, it means how the teacher response of students writings, it is the feedback that the teacher give to them, showing their strengths and weaknesses. Learner autonomy, this is the last stage because the student start to take their own initiative to asses himself and he use techniques and style to understand better his/her learning. As I mentioned before there are many ways to evaluate the students in the next char shows some ways to assess the students. Portfolio assessment Protocol analysis is a collection of student work and related material that depicts a student's activities, accomplishments, and achievements in one or more school subjects This is a good method that involves the identification of basic knowledge objects within a protocol, usually a transcript. is a journal which evidences your own learning and skills development. have learnt, tried and critically reflected upon. It can be a chronicle of your daily activities, a summary of your most intimate thoughts, or simply a way to keep yourself while you complete an assignment. Are written conversations between a student and the teacher or between two students.

Response to students writing There are many different ways of responding to students writing, and the one we choose may well determine the success or failure of the whole journal-writing. The writer explains that most of the teachers cannot resist the temptation to correct all errors, in their students composition. And what happen when the teacher stars to correct their writing? They feel that it is not their own work or writing so they start to lose ownership of their writing. Now lets go to see some ways to give good feedbacks: Self-response This is when the students analyze by themselves, and it is good because is a step toward learner autonomy. Peer response It is a form use by students in evaluating other students' writing. Teacher This is when the teacher employs peer correction in response the classroom. The teacher can talk with the students doing more affective the feedback.
