Introduction
The Objectives of ORU-M (Operator Replaceable Unit Management)
ORU-M system enables users to replace the machine units by themselves. It also helps to minimize machine downtime.

Notice to users of ORU-M


Make sure you take trainings and obtain a certificate of approval before using the ORUM. When replacing the machine units, please follow the instructions written in the ORU-M (Operator Replaceable Unit Management) REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS. To perform replacement tasks safely and reliably, keep the ORU-M (Operator Replaceable Unit Management) REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS and do not lose them. If you lose the instructions, contact your service representative.

Preliminary Preparation to Replace ORU-M Units


When replacing the ORU-M units, switch to the ORU-M mode, and then replace the ORU-M units in accordance with the procedures on the screens. This guide explains the following topics in the order displayed on the screen. Refer to "2 Preliminary Preparation to Replace the ORU-M Units" for the preliminary preparation after you switch to the ORU-M mode and before replacing the units, "3 Replacing ORUM Units" for the procedures to replace each unit, and "4 Adjustment after Replacing the ORU-M Units" for adjustment procedures after replacing the units. Print out this guide and keep it at hand for your reference before you start replacement work.

Preliminary Preparation to Replace ORU-M Units


Before replacing the ORU-M units, follow the procedure below to switch to the ORU-M mode.

Press [Utility/Counter]. The Utility screen is displayed.

Press [ORU-M (Unit Replace)].

The screen to agree on the responsibility for the ORU-M operations is displayed. If the ORU-M password is set, the ORU-M Password screen to enter the password is displayed. Proceed to step 4.

If you agree, press [Yes]. If you do not agree, press [No]. The Utility screen will be restored.

The ORU-M Replacement Unit screen is displayed. Proceed to step 5.

Enter 4-digit ORU-M password, and then press [OK]. Use alphanumeric characters for the ORU-M password. The alphanumeric characters used for the passwords are case-sensitive. You cannot use symbols and space character.

Important The ORU-M password is not set initially. If you want to set the ORU-M password, please contact your service representative. The ORU-M password cannot be modified. If you want to modify it, please contact your service representative.

Confirm the units that you replace on the ORU-M Replacement Unit screen. On this screen, units to be replaced are listed in the order from the nearest replacement time. The value of life cycle will be greater than or equal to 100% and highlighted in red if the replacement time limit of the unit exceed its life cycle. The date of last replacement is displayed on the right column of the list. If you want to replace the unit now, proceed to step 8.

Important Initially, all units are displayed regardless of the need for replacement. You can configure it to display only the units needed to be replaced. You can also modify the threshold to decide whether to display the unit to be replaced or not. Please contact your service representative for details.

Display the replacement procedure guide and check the procedures of the unit replacement. Display the replacement procedure guide and check the procedures of the unit replacement before replacing it. If you do not need to display the replacement procedure guide, proceed to step 7. (1) Press [Replacement Procedure].

The ORU-M Replacement Procedure screen is displayed. 2 Press a button of an unit that you want to replace, and then press [Procedure Guide View]. If you select a unit to to be replaced, only the selected unit will be displayed.

The replacement guide screen is displayed. 3 In order to move to previous or next page of the guide, press [*] [)] at the bottom of the guide screen. If the [Check] button is displayed on the screen and you press it, the subscreen is displayed. Press the [Close] button to close the sub-screen.

4 When you confirm the replacement procedure, press the [Close] button twice. The ORU-M Replacement Unit screen will be restored.

Print a sample image. If you do not need to print a sample image, or the [Print Mode] button is not displayed on the ORU-M Peplacement Unit screen, proceed to step 8. Important You can configure not to display the [Print Mode] on the ORU-M Replacement Unit screen. Please contact your service representative, if desired. 1 Press [Print Mode].

The PRINT MODE screen is displayed. 2 Select a paper that is larger than A4, and press Start on the control panel.

The sample image will be output on the specified paper. 3 Press [Exit PrintMode]. The ORU-M Replacement Unit screen will be restored.

Press [Start Replacement].

The dialog box to confirm to start replacement work is displayed.

Press [Yes].

The power automatically turns off and the ORU-M Replacement Unit screen is displayed.

When replacing units, please refer to "3 Replacing ORU-M Units." Important You can confirm the replacement procedure by pressing [Replacement Procedure] on the ORU-M Replacement Unit screen and display the replacement procedure guide during the replacement work. Please refer to step 6 for details.

Important You can check the procedures of the unit replacement on the control panel during replacement.

Open the right front door [1] and left front door [2], then loosen the screw [3].

Open the toner hopper unit [1].

Important Please make sure that you cap on the toner inlet of the toner hopper unit when you open the toner hopper. Dust and debris may enter through the toner inlet. The cap is located at the bottom of the process unit. Do not put the used cap on another toner inlet of a different color. If you do so, a toner of a different color may get mixed in.

Loosen the screws [1] (2 pieces) in front of the process unit.

Loosen the screws [1] (2 pieces) on the positioning axis in front of the process unit. Turn the positioning axis [2] counterclockwise to remove it.

Disconnect the connector [1] around the lavender label.

Pull up the right lever [1] and left lever [2] frontward, then pull out the process unit [3]. Important Hold the center of the lever.

Raise the handle [1] of the transfer belt unit, and then remove the unit.

Important Please use both hands to hold both ends of the handle [1] of the transfer belt unit. Please be careful not to touch the transfer belt [2] with bare hands or not to damage it.

Move the right and left legs [1] of the transfer belt unit by removing the pins of the upper side and inserting the pins at the bottom of the transfer belt unit. Stand the transfer belt unit on a flat place with the legs.

Important Do not put the removed transfer belt unit directly on the floor, as it may damage the transfer belt. Please be careful not to touch the transfer belt [2] with bare hands or not to damage it.

When replacing the drum unit K, open the image adjustment unit downward by holding both ends of the color registration sensor [1]. This procedure is not necessary for the drum unit Y/M/C.

Holding the handles [1] on both ends of the drum unit, lift the drum unit [2] to remove it. Important Please be careful not to touch the drum with bere hands, or to damage it. When leaving the drum unit, please keep it in a dark place, covered with a drum cover (to protect it from light).

Take the new drum unit [1] from the package. Important Please do not remove the protection sheet for the drum until you finish step 12and 13.

Perform following works on the front side of the drum unit. (1) Lay the new drum unit [1] on a flat place as indicated in the right figure. Important Please steadily hold the drum unit [1] and be careful not to damage the drum [2].

(2) Remove the screw [1] (red, 1 piece) of the blade lock.

(3) Loosen the screw [2] (1 piece) of the gear [1] to remove it.

(4) Remove the screw [1], remove the blade pressure releasing part [2] and then remove the tapes [3].

(5) Loosen the screw [1].

(6) Attach the blade pressure releasing part [1] as indicated in the right figure and fix it with the screw [2] you removed in step (4). Put the blade on the lug.

(7) Tighten the screw [1] firmly that you loosened step (5).

(8) Attach the gear [1] and tighten the screw [2] (1 piece).

Perform following works on the rear side of the drum unit. (1) Lay the new drum unit [1] on a flat place as indicated in the right figure. Important Please steadily hold the drum unit [1] and be careful not to damage the drum [2].

(2) Remove the screw [1] (red, 1 piece) of the blade lock.

(3) Remove the screw [1], remove the blade pressure releasing part [2], and then remove the tapes [3].

(4) Loosen the screw [1].

(5) Attach the blade pressure releasing part [1] as indicated in the right figure and fix it with the screw [2] you removed in step (2).

(6) Tighten the screw [1] firmly that you loosened step (4).

Remove the protection sheet of the drum unit [1]. Important Please be careful not to damage the drum [2].

Lay the drum unit [1] on a flat place with the gear side down and apply the setting powder [2] to both sides of the drum. Use fingers to rotate both ends of the drum in the direction indicated by the arrow [3] to drop the setting powder. Keep rotating the drum unit until the setting powder runs out.

Important Hold the flange [2] outside both edges and rotate the drum [1]. Do not touch any other places on the drum. Please be sure to rotate it in the arrow direction. Never rotate in the reverse direction, or the blade may be broken.

Attach the drum unit [1] to its original position. Confirm that both ends of the drum unit [2] fit into the groove of the front block [3] and the groove of the rear block [4].

Important The illustration shows the front and rear blocks of drum unit K [1] as an example. When mounting the drum unit K [1], please match the + mark [2] on the drum unit and the + mark [3] on the drawer.

When replacing the drum unit K, close the image adjustment unit upward by holding both ends of the color registration sensor [1]. This procedure is not necessary for the drum unit Y/M/C.

While holding the handle [1] of the transfer belt with one hand, return the right and left legs [2] to their original positions.

Lift the transfer belt unit [1] with both hands. Fit the guide pins [2] located on the front and rear sides (2 peaces each) to the two support blocks [3] and two rear support blocks [4] to set the transfer belt unit to the process unit.

Important Make sure that the transfer belt unit [1] does not touch the drum. Please confirm that the position of the + mark [2] is correct. There is no supporting block for the guide pins located in the bottom of the transfer belt unit.

Press the process unit [1] back by holding the left lever [2] and right lever [2]. Lay down the left and right levers and return them to the original position. Important Hold the center of the lever.

Connect the connector [1] around the lavender label.

Insert the positioning axis [1], and turn it clockwise until it reaches the screws [2] (2 pieces). Use the screws [3] (2 pieces) to fix it.

Tighten the screws [1] (2 pieces) in front of the process unit.

Remove the cap on the toner inlet of the toner hopper unit, then return the cap to the original position at the bottom of the process unit. Important Make sure that you clean the cap when you return it. Close the toner hopper unit [1].

Tighten the screw [1] (1 piece) and close the left front door [2] and right front door [3].

After replacing the ORU-M units, make adjustments on them.

After replacing the ORU-M units, press [Complete Replacement] on the ORU-M Replacement Unit screen.

The machine automatically turns on and the Register ORU-M Replacement Unit screen is displayed. Important Please make sure that you fix the toner hopper unit with the screws and close the front door. Otherwise, the machine will not automatically turn off.

Important You can return to the replacement procedures again and restart the procedures if the [Continue replacement] button is displayed on the screen. Please use this button if you need to replace other units. Once you start the adjustment procedure, the [Continue replacement] button is not displayed on this screen and you cannot return to the replacement procedures.

Select the row of the unit that you replaced. If the unit that you replaced is not displayed on the screen, press [+] [,] to display it. % If you replaced multiple units, you can configure several units at once by selecting units with the same replacement reason and setting the reason to the units.

If the [Replace Reason] button is not displayed in the list of the Register ORU-M Replacement Unit screen, press the checkbox next to the [Unit Name].

The checkmark is displayed. Proceed to step 5. % If the unit name you replaced is not displayed in the screen, press [+][,]. % You can select multiple unit names. You can perform subsequent tasks together by selecting all units you replaced. Important Only service engineer can configure not to display the [Replace Reason] button on the Register ORU-M Replacement Unit screen. Please contact your service representative, if desired.

Press the [Replace Reason] button. The dialog to select a reason to replace is displayed. Select a button for replace reason, and then press [OK].

The replace reason that you selected is displayed in the column of [Replace Reason] button and a checkmark is displayed next to the unit name. Important Please make sure to set a replacement reason for the replaced units. It does not reset a counter for the Life Cycle of the units. You cannot properly adjust the units in next steps.

Press [Complete].

The dialog box asking to reset the counter of the selected unit is displayed.

Press [Yes].

The Adjustment After Unit Replacing screen is displayed.

Press [Start].

Adjustment Items Color Registration Adjustment Gamma Adjustment Start to adjust the units. Standard time required to adjust is displayed for an auto-adjustment item in the right side of the item. For a manual adjustment item, a screen for each item is displayed. When you finish manually adjusting the item, it automatically proceeds to the next screen. The dialog box showing that adjustment after unit replacement is completed is displayed.

Press [Close].

The Adjustment After Unit Replacing screen is displayed.

Press [Next].

The ORU-M Replacement Unit screen will be restored.

Print a sample image. If you do not need to print a sample image, or the [Print Mode] button is not displayed on the ORU-M Replacement Unit, proceed to step 11. Important You can configure not to display the [Print Mode] on the ORU-M Replacement Unit screen. Please contact your service representative, if desired. (1) Press [Print Mode].

The PRINT MODE screen is displayed. (2) Select a paper that is larger than A4 (8.5 e 11), and press Start on the control panel.

The sample image will be output on the specified paper. (3) Confirm the result of the adjustment by comparing the samples before and after the adjustment. (4) Press [Exit PrintMode]. The ORU-M Replacement Unit screen will be restored.

Press [Complete].

The Machine Screen will be restored.
