Key elements of Standard 6 6a: Identifying and involving oneself with the early childhood field 6c: Engaging in continuous, collaborative learning to inform practice Identify artifact: The Specialist Interview is an opportunity to learn about a specific resource in the Field of education that a Early childhood teacher could benefit from their knowledge and expertise. Identify process: The process of the Specialist Interview was first to review all the potential resources to interview. Next I selected the resource that would provide me with the most knowledge and assistance in the Early Childhood field. I then set up an interview time with a speech pathologist in the Child Find Agency. We then discussed her function in assisting the students in the program and all the services that Child Find provides. Finally, I took all the insightful information and filed it to use in the field. Rationale: The relationship between the selected NAEYC and INTASC standard and the artifact offered me a chance to grow as an Early Childhood professional. The knowledge provided during the interview will help me make informed decisions to help a student. I learned effective verbal and non-verbal methods of communication to help diverse learners. In addition, I now have a valuable resource to provide sound educational practices and policies.

Reflection: The interview with a Speech Pathologist has afforded me a wealth of knowledge of the different types of services that Child Find provides. I will know who to contact in the future if one of my students need additional assistance. I learned that the services provided by Child Find are free to Harford County children and they provide free screenings. Another valuable piece of information learned during the interview is that Child Find can observe the child in a home or childcare setting. This information is useful for parents/caregivers who choose or are unable to get transportation to screening centers. Also, screening in a familiar setting will help the child feel more comfortable. I received valuable information on the types of assessments used to screen and the access the process of children. I learned that unfortunately some students

arent able to be mainstreamed into a traditional classroom but they are included with a differentiated lesson plans. Relationship to teaching/learning: The students impact of my new learned knowledge is to be able to support my students in the best of my ability. A student who might need the resources will be able to get a headstart on their education foundation. Also, the students can find way to compensate for their specific learning disability.
