Insight of Physics

My name is Praveen Kumar Reddy.A working as an Assistant project Manager to Scientific Exploration Team in Efftronics Systems Private Limited Vijayawada. For the past one year I have a question in my mind why I need to learn physics? I tried and tried and finally convinced with some thoughts. I want to share these thoughts to all. Why iam sharing? It has a strong reason. When iam interacting with the upcoming students and employees, no body have a clear idea of why we are learning this subject? What is the advantage of learning this subject? Also observed lot of people feeling Maths and Science are different and learning them separately without having any relation found in it. Their main motto is to win the race in the age of Ranks and Marks. That is not their fault it is ours. We are not giving them proper guidance. We are making them like Marks machine and in this process we are increasing pressure on them. My Colleague Mallikarjun says School education should thought them the values and the confidence to lead the life . He is absolutely correct. It is lacking in the present education system. All are in the race of marks and fear to sustain. This will definitely lead to decline in country progress due to lack of Leaders. In the present article I want to share some thoughts regarding some questions? 1. What is physics? 2. Why we are studying about it? 3. How much we progressed in this field? 4. Now where we are? Science means observation. Daily in the physical world we observe lot of things. They all follow same laws (rules) at various contexts. For example water always flows towards the slope weather it may be on land , Hills etc., That is in the natural world we have some patterns and it follows some

rules. It is like the rules in chess (as great Feynman said in lecture). We are observing chess and identifying the rules. Similarly for any science its objective is to find the rules. Physics is the branch of one science which observes the physical world around us and tries to answer various events happening by identifying the rules (Laws). We have progressed from the Stone Age to the latest information world age. All this progress will not be possible without having knowledge on the surroundings. Physics does not come on a single day, single year. It is the result of many great eminent workers who have sacrificed their lives to understand the physical world around us and have given a stock of Knowledge. Now by knowing and learning that knowledge we have to progress further that knowledge to next generations. We are learning physics to understand the physical world around us for two things 1. To utilize that knowledge for benefits of Human kind 2. To progress further knowledge which digged deep inside our surroundings. First context refers to the applied scientific research and Second context refers to the Basic scientific research. We are already utilizing the fruits of applied scientific research in our day to day lives. Our standards of life increasing day by day by utilizing the knowledge we acquired by understanding the nature around us. Scientists, Engineers working towards this by developing tools based on the observations and knowledge gained from surroundings for the benefit of humankind. Without electricity can u imagine your life now? Can you achieve modern Transportation system? Can you achieve modern mobile communication? All these are not possible without applying our knowledge to develop applications learned from our physical world. So today every student irrespective of he going to be engineer , doctor ,

botanist or anything he need to understand the physical world around us. Thats why we are learning Physics in our education curriculum. Without understanding the surroundings and knowledge already gained on these we cannot develop a better systems for the Human kind. But today in engineering education no body concentrates on fundamental sciences, they are learning tools for the sake of money gain. Although it is benefiting them it will not lead any help to society. Every engineer or doctor asks a question why I need to care for society? This answer is given beautifully by my colleague Mallikarjun. According to his view we are studying all these degrees from the society money. We are taking money from society but you are not giving any return favor to the society. That means we are simply wasting the valuable society money. Do you feel good when somebody takes money from you and will not return to you? Next basic thing we need to understand is learning physics is not only sufficient; in order to express our ideas in this context we need a language. Mathematics is a powerful tool and has provided many methods to express our ideas in science in a mathematical form. Without mathematics no one can express their ideas in any branch of science in a scientific way. Any though which cannot be proved in a scientific way has no value in science. For example we learn calculus to characterize various motions around the world. We study trigonometry and Geometry to study the shape, size and space. Physics and Mathematics are not different subjects. Mathematics is like the air in the tyre. Without air, tyre is shapeless and useless.

Next big question is how I have to learn physics. What is the starting point and what is the end point and where it is now The entire physical world we observing started from a single event. Big bang.

After big bang explosion the entire universe which we are now seeing formed after 14 billion years. First we have to understand the surroundings which we see daily. Starting point of physics is a Classical mechanics. It is a branch of science which we deal the physical world that is around us. It tries to identify the rules with in the physical world realm around us. For that purpose we are learning mechanics from Intermediate to Degree. Newtonian mechanics, Hamiltonian mechanics, Lagrangian mechanics all come under this category. Other sub categories in this scale are Thermodynamics, Statistical mechanics, optics, Electromagnetism etc. When we try to apply the same rules at the microscopic world that is at atomic level they didnt give satisfied results. Now a new set of rules are required. This observation at microscopic level leads to the Quantum mechanics. This mechanics give satisfied results of the entire world covering from microscopic world, physical world surround us and big cosmos. But recently Quantum mechanics failed to explain the entire cosmological world. Experimental observations proved that the entire universe is filled with dark energy and the remaining 5% is filled with the planets, galaxies, suns, stars etc., Rules when applied to this dark energy does not give satisfied results. All the science we learned and the rules applied for the 5% of the universe but what about remaining 95%. This is the quest where the present scientific field working on. All the scientists around the world targeting that all the forces, particles came from a single force and trying to unify all the laws of universe with single law. This is called Grand unified theory. (Einstein dream of Grand unification) If we understand properly these unknown questions we can benefit more from these results. For this a lot of work needs to be done. Super string theory, Large Hadron Collider all are working regarding this.

For that a lot of Engineers and Scientists need to understand the nature around us. On the other side of the coin developing solutions for the better Human kind from the knowledge which has already been developed. So choose your path and learn accordingly. All the subjects we are learning in our education curriculum are targeted only for these. So learn Science for the development of better society not for Marks. Science is not a subject it is a responsibility of knowledge which our ancestors have given to us. So respect Science and learn Science for benefit of society.
