The overall procedure of the M2000 performance management include the following procedures: performance measurement setting, performance data import, performance data display, performance data synchronization, and performance data northbound export. The Figure in the slide shows the overall procedure of the M2000 performance management. After you set the measurement counters, measured objects, and measurement periods an NE on the M2000, the NE reports the counter measurement results, that is, the performance data, to the M2000 when the measurement period arrives. The mediation of the M2000 server analyzes the packets reported by NEs into a uniform format. Then, the performance server saves the data required by users to the performance database. The M2000 also performs threshold check on the performance data. The M2000 generates an alarm message after it detects that the performance data exceeds the preset threshold. Through the northbound interfaces of the M2000, the performance data of NEs can be provided to the NMS for northbound users to analyze. Setting performance measurement A performance measurement task must contain the following information: measurement counters, measured objects, and measurement periods. The NE performance measurement range set on the M2000 client is the basis for saving the NE results to the performance database. The counter results of only the NE objects that are set for measurement can be analyzed by the mediation and then saved to the M2000 performance database. By default, the M2000 collects and stores common counter measurement results of common objects. In such a case, manual settings are not required and the results collected by default can meet the data requirements in most OM scenarios.

If the NE data collected by the M2000 is not integrated, you can collect the data again through automatic collection or manual synchronization. The Figure in the slide shows the procedure of performance data synchronization. It shows only the procedures of automatic collection and manual synchronization. Other procedures such as threshold identification and northbound export are similar to the overall procedure. Synchronizing performance data Automatic collection In situations such as when the NEs are disconnected or the performance services on the M2000 are stopped, if no performance results are reported during a period, the performance mediation issues a result query command to obtain the packets or files of performance measurement results. The M2000 performance mediation is triggered by a timer to check the integrity of performance measurement results. If any NE results are lost, the M2000 performance mediation finds the synchronization information and collects the lost results. If no results are reported after the automatic synchronization, the M2000 generates an alarm of lost performance measurement results. Manual synchronization After you find on the M2000 client that the measurement results of NEs are lost, you can set the information such as the measurement period, synchronization time segment, and function subsets and then manually deliver the measurement result synchronization task. The M2000 collects the lost results based on the preset task information.

Performance measurement counter defines measurement objects. It is the basic unit of performance measurement. Measurement objects refer to the objects that are measured. A measurement object can be a physical entity such as a board or a subrack, or a logical entity such as a cell or a neighbor cell. Certain mapping relations exist between measurement objects and measurement counters. Each measurement object maps one or more measurement counters, that is, the measured object has specific measurement items. Measurement counters, however, depend on measurement objects. A measurement period refers to the interval for NEs to report performance measurement results. The measurement periods vary according to the measurement objects. The measurement periods are : 5 minutes, 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 60 minutes, or 24 hours, but only 15 minutes, 60 minutes, or 24 hours are available

A large number of measurement counters exist in the M2000 system. Therefore, the counters are divided into different levels for better and efficient management. Level 1: function set. A function set consists of multiple function subsets related to a specific system function. Function sets are also called measurement sets. Level 2: function subset. A function subset consists of measurement counters related to a certain system function. Function subsets are also called measurement units. Level 3: measurement counter.

Setting Performance Database Capacity Parameters Parameters of performance database capacity include the storage duration of the data in the performance database, and whether to export the data and relevant parameters. The system regularly deletes expired data from the database according to user settings. Through database capacity management tasks, the database capacity is maintained within a proper range to avoid database faults caused by insufficient database capacity. Context Database capacity management tasks are system scheduled tasks that run once every day. Their execution period cannot be modified. Procedure Step 1 Choose Maintenance > Task Management. The Task Management window is displayed. Step 2 In the navigation tree in the left pane, choose Task Type > Database Capacity Management > Performance Data. The created database capacity management task is displayed in the task list in the right pane. Step 3 Double-click the task or select the task and then click Attribute. The Attribute dialog box is displayed. Parameters for Setting Performance Database Capacity Parameters This section describes the parameters related to the capacity management of the performance database. You can refer to these parameters when modifying the parameters related to the capacity management of the performance database. Common Parameters The Common Parameters tab page displays the basic information about a task, which is irrelevant to the capacity management of the performance database.

Extended Parameters The parameters on the Extended Parameters tab page are related to the capacity management of the performance database. Export Data Yes: The system exports the performance data whose storage duration expires based on the file export parameters set for the task. No: The system deletes the performance data whose storage duration expires. In this case, the file export parameters set for the task are invalid. Compress File After Export When the storage duration of the performance data in the database expires, the system determines whether to compress files during export. File Format Format of the file that stores the exported data. The data files for the capacity management of the performance database are in .csv format. Save File Path By default, the exported data is saved in the /export/home/omc/var/ThresholdExport/PM/ path. The default value cannot be changed. File Size Upper limit set for the space for saving the dumped files. During the export of files, the earliest files that are dumped are overwritten if the total size of the files exceeds the upper limit. NOTE: When setting the upper limit set for the space for saving the dumped files, you need to consider the size of the partition that the save path belongs to. The upper limit must not exceed the size of the partition. File Hold Days Number of days within which the dumped files can be stored. The files whose storage duration expires are automatically deleted. File Sum Upper limit set for the number of files in the space for saving the dumped files. During the export of files, the initial files that are dumped are overwritten if the total number of files exceeds the upper limit.

To reduce the storage pressure, the M2000 limits the number of measurement counters of small periods to reduce their measurement. Short period refers to shorter than or equals to 15 minutes. Common period refers to longer than 15 minutes. On the M2000, the number of counters for small periods is limited. You can select smaller than 400 counters for small periods at the same time. The rules defining measurement counters are as follows: When you define the measurement counters, the associated original counters are set to be measured by default. When you cancel the measurement of user-defined counters, the measurement of the user-defined counters is cancelled, but the associated original counters are not cancelled. If a user-defined counter is being measured, the invoked original counter cannot be cancelled.
