Minutes of the Meeting (Macro Economics-I) A meeting of the colleges teachers teaching B.A.(H) Business Economics Paper MacroEconomics I was held on 1.8.2012 at 2.00 p.m. in the Computer Lab of the Department of BusinessEconomics. It was recommended that all readings as specified in the Syllabus would be followed and that relevant Appendices of Blanchard (2006) should be used to supplement the text. In addition, the following is to be noted for Units I and II : Unit I Students should refer to Chapter 2 of Macroeconomics, Schaum Series for numerical exercises. Unit II Students should be made familiar with the term Crowding Out. Weightage of different topics would be as follows: Unit I : 8 marks Unit II : 17 marks Unit III: 20 marks Unit IV : 20 marks Unit V : 10 marks Total 75

Notes: 1. The teachers /Students are expected to do chapter end exercises of the recommended texts. 2. The paper setter/examiners are also advised to follow these guidelines.

It was decided in the meeting to search a replacement for Nagesh Kumars FDI topic in Unit-4. It was also decided that the moderation Committee should keep in mind the weightage of the units and accordingly the Question Paper should be finalized. This same should apply to the paper setter also. Question Paper Pattern As we were following earlier Question no-1will be compulsory & that will be total eight Questions out of which students have to attempt five including the Compulsory Question. A meeting of the colleges teachers teaching B.A.(H) Business Economics Paper Business Finance was held on 1.8.2012 at 3.00 p.m. in the Committee room of the Department of Business Economics.

The following decisions were taken:1. It was decided that in Unit 1only nature, scope &objectives of F.M. should be discussed and hence No. of lecture should be reduced from 8 to 4& weightage from 10 to 5. 2. Time value of money, mathematics of finance & concept of risk & return are to be taught in Unit no.2 as these concepts are relevant to Discounted C.F. techniques No. of lectures are to be increased to 19 from 15 and weightage should be 25. 3. In Unit no.5 the sources of finance should include commercial paper, factoring Discounting of bills and non convertible debentures. 4. As objective of this paper is to provide basic concept of business finance, it was decided that lease evaluation and financial evaluation of mergers & acquisition be deemed as excluded- Unit 5

5. Suggestions for revision of Course It was felt that this course on business finance is incomplete without a unit on Working Capital. It is therefore suggested that Unit 5 be captioned as working capital management and include different aspect of Working Capital such as cash Mgmt., Inventory management & receivables mgmt. It should be followed by a discussion on sources of working capital, which should include, besides the existing sources. Commercial paper, factoring & non convertible debentures. It was felt that Unit 5(ii)&Unit 5(iii) be eliminated from this course as this paper is introductory paper for business finance and the topics are of advanced nature. It is requested that these suggestions be accepted at the time of revision of the course.

Paper 303 Business Finance Objective: The course aims to provide basic concepts and knowledge with regard to business finance and its decisions. UNIT 1 INTRODUCTION Time value of money and mathematics of finance. Concept of Risk and return. UNIT 2 INVESTMENT DECISION Capita budgeting process: Estimation of Relevant cash flows, Non-discounted and cash flow techniques- Pay back, ARP,NPV, IRR and Profitable index Nature , scope and objectives of financial management. UNIT 3 COST OF CAPITAL AND FINANCE DECISION Cost of Capital and Financing Decision: Estimation of cost of capital; Equity capital and external &internal retained earnings , Debt and Preference Capital, Weighted average cost of capital (WACC) and marginal cost of capital. Capital structure theories -. Factors determining capital structure. UNIT 4: DIVIDEND DECISION Relationship between dividend and corporate valuation - Walter model, Gordon Modeland MM hypothesis. Determinants of dividend policy.

Short term sources: advances from commercial banks, public deposits, advances from customers and trade creditors. Long term sources: shares, debentures and long term loans etc. (i) Lease Financing concept of leasing. Types of lease agreements. Difference between hire purchase and lease financing. Advantages and disadvantages of leasing. (ii) Mergers and Acquisitions Reasons for mergers and acquisitions. Types of mergers. Financial considerations in mergers and acquisitions. Financial evaluation of mergers and acquisitions. Benefits and costs of mergers.
