PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION:

The dancing leds operate on the principle that whenever audio or a sound is played the LEDs start working. The speed of the light can be varied by varying the potentiometer. Hence we can obtain various patterns of lighting by obtaining several formats and by using different colour LEDs it proves to be a magnificient work of art. Hence to operate the dancing leds it is necessary to obtain various patterns of design and models of the same.
In this way not only on small scale but also on large scale we can decorate our house during festive season or we can use these lights in discotheques for enjoyment purpose

IC CD-4017

This is a kind of IC that receive input in the form of digital signals. Here it is a clock signal.A clock signal is a kind of signal that is produced from a clock generator. It can attain 2 values-either 1( active high state) or 0(active low state). In this IC,the input is fed through pin number 14. Then the process inside the IC will start. This IC contain a DECADE COUNTER, 5 stage JOHNSON COUNTER AND AN OUTPUT DECODER. In IC-CD4017 , The clock signal is provided to it through pin number 14. The pin numbers from 1 to 7 and from 9 to 11 are used to give output which is decoded. The power supply is given to the pin number 16.

RELAY

In IC-CD4017 , The clock signal is provided to it through pin number 14. The pin numbers from 1 to 7 and from 9 to 11 are used to give output which is decoded. The power supply is given to the pin number 16. Relays are usuallly SPDT or DPDT but they can have many more sets of switch contacts, for example relays with 4 sets of changeover contacts are readily available. For further information about switch contacts and the terms used to describe them please see the page on switches. Most relays are designed for PCB mounting but you can solder wires directly to the pins providing you take care to avoid melting the plastic case of the relay. The supplier's catalogue should show you the relay's connections. The coil will be obvious and it may be connected either way round. Relay coils produce brief high voltage 'spikes' when they are switched off and

this can destroy transistors and ICs in the circuit. To prevent damage you must connect a protection diode across the relay coil.

The relay's switch connections are usually labelled COM, NC and NO:

COM = Common, always connect to this, it is the moving part of the switch. NC = Normally Closed, COM is connected to this when the relay coil is off. NO = Normally Open, COM is connected to this when the relay coil is on. Connect to COM and NO if you want the switched circuit to be on when the relay coil is on. Connect to COM and NC if you want the switched circuit to be on when the relay coil is off.

WORKING:
The dancing led circuit consists of 10leds and 10 resistors of 220 ohms connected simultaneously which makes the circuit very easy to fabricate. Once we connect the circuit and tune any sort of music in front of the circuit ,the leds start to glow one after other. This is a unique pattern and hence we can obtain it simply by playing music and the leds start dancing. There is potentiometer in the circuit which will decide the speed of lighting .hence by varying the potentiometer we can obtain various patterns in the lighting of leds giving it a decorative effect and very effective for commercial purpose.

Some mains operated audio controlled light can be used in discotheques. The LEDs glow in a running sequence as per the sound generated. When music is played, the lights start running through the LEDs. Ten LEDs are connected to the circuit. Only LED glows at a time when there is no sound/music.

In this circuit a condenser mic is used which converts audio signals to electrical signals. These electrical signals from the microphone are fed to the transistor which amplifies the microphone signals and also provides clock pulses to the decade counter IC1 CD4017.A preset is provided to vary the signal level. As the decade counter has a total of ten counts, the pin corresponding to tenth count is connected to reset pin of IC1. One of the outputs of IC1 is fed to the clock pin of IC2 CD4017. The outputs of IC2 CD4017 drive LEDs through resistors.
