Lollipops

Set 1

One of the items I picked out were dum dums lollipops. These have a sturdy paper stick attached to a small round hard candy. Each lollipop has a different paper wrapper covering the candy, each with its own color and flavor. The paper is waxy in texture and the graphics make them look playful and fun . The candy end would make for an interesting looking serif.

Halloween Rings

Set 1

The second set of items I chose were halloween candy rings. The bag I picked out had an assortment of a few different kinds, ranging from black bats, to white skulls, to orange spiders. They are all made of a rubbery material. This makes it easy to cut off the ring side of each one so it would be easier to lay them right side up. It would be interesting to see what kind of shapes and letters I can make out from each ring.

Ribbon

Set 1

The third item I chose was wire-edged ribbon. This ribbon is very wide, and has a wired edge that allows me to bend them as i please. The area in between the wire is almost see though. It is black in color, but has glitter embedded in it that gives it a sparkling appearance. I can see myself trying to make thick, bold letters out of this item.

Analysis

1.Names: lollipop, candy, pop, sucker 2.Uses: eating, sucking, licking, tasting, Halloween, treats, sweet snack, 3.Features color: Varitey: Light/dark blue, pink, purple, orange, red, green, yellow, brown, white (stick and wrapper) weight: Light. The stick side is fairly light, but the candy end is where most of the weight is. Altogether it weighs no more than a few ounces. texture: The paper is made of some sort of waxy material. The stick is paper like in quality and is very smooth. The candy is sticky and hard, with rough edges. It can also be sticky if wet. smell: Each candy, depending on their flavor, has their own sweet scent, ranging from fruit punch, blueberry, cotton candy, mango, grape, watermelon, and others. taste: They all taste really sweet and sugary. They each have their own unique taste, depending on what flavor they were made into with the same range as I mentioned in smell. size: Candy: Round, Spherical, almost an inch wide Stem: Cylinder, thin, almost two inches long. When together, they extend out about the size of my palm. Inherent Properties: sweet, festive, colorful, fun, vibrant, artificial, bubbly, sugary, fruity 4. Raw Materials/Processes: 1.flavored sucrose and corn syrup, sugar, water, coloring, citric and malic acid.

2.Sugar and water are heated together and put in a pre-cooker. Corn syrup is added and heated to 228 degrees Fahrenheit. Then it is sent to a final cooker and heated to 290 degrees Fahrenheit. After that, food coloring and flavoring, such as the citric and malic acid, are added. This mixture is sent to a kneading machine to mix it all together, and also creating bubbles to make it easier to break. Finally, it is sent to a machine making it into a ropelike shape, where it is either wrapped around the stick by hand or machine. 5. Parts: 1.There is a spherical hard candy part, the wrapper, and a paper stick part. 2.The wrapper is fairly easy to take off of the hard candy. 3.The issue came when I tried taking the candy off the stick. The candy is really stuck to it, so the only way I could take it off without breaking it was to break the stick off. 4.If I want to take the candy completely off, I needed to break it with a hammer. All that is left are shattered pieces of candy. Some pieces are big, while other are tiny and small, almost like rock candy.

Concept

Variation 2
The title of my lollipop typeface will be Pop Burst because since the lollipops are broken up and so colorful, it looks like they are bursting out of the page. Plus, it looks festive and happy, and I feel that the title relates well with the look.
