A Place to Lay My Head!

Ministering daily, programs start soon!
On October 9th I moved to the Wings of Healing compound. I am so grateful for the many workers who helped me to get to this place. I am forever indebted to all of you for your continued prayers and support. I am in awe of God for His supply and direction this year. In January, He gave me the scripture, Isaiah 43:18-19, "Do not call to mind the former things or ponder things of the past. Behold, I will do something new, now it will spring forth. Will you not be aware of it? I will even make a roadway in the wilderness, rivers in the desert. Much has been fulfilled in this short few months. I set foot on this land in March and now, just 8 months later, God has done a great thing in Kinyiba. The grand opening is January 2013. I have my hands full finishing up various projects; putting the shelves in the kitchen, building a woodburning stove, painting the buildings inside and out, starting the Moringa nursery and many small tasks that still need to be done. Kinyiba Girls School Debate Team
The last week of October I had the privilege of taking the team to a nearby school for the area debates, all eighteen girls! They excelled and won the competition! The teachers of this school are dedicated to education and to equality in education for girls in Kajo-Keji County. Pastor Henry Lubajo, headmaster of the Kinyiba Girls School, is also dedicated to advancing the Word of God in this next generation that will be the forerunners for their new nation.

Meet the Girls YOU Support!

I was returning to Kinyiba on the evening of October 21st when I picked up a few people that were walking on the road. One of them was Nancy, a woman I sometimes buy firewood from. As she got out of the back of the truck, she asked me to take and raise a fourth grade girl that did not have a father to support her. I told her to let me pray and I would come see her the next day. The following day Pastor Henry and I went to visit Nancys home and discuss the situation. It seemed that 14 year old Rose, third of Nancys six children, had just been sent back from her uncles care along with her 17 year old brother. As I probed for more information, what I found out was rather unsettling.

Rose Juru

Nancys two oldest boys, 23 and 17, regularly get drunk and beat Nancy, Rose and the younger children. They also contribute nothing to the household. Nancy has been going to the witchdoctor to have the curses taken from the boys so that they are better behaved. Nancy says she used to be saved but doesnt want to give her life back to God right now. She did allow me to pray for her and her family in Jesus name.

Esthers infectious smile caught my heart the first time I met her in April. Her story, and God, moved my heart. Esther is a 19 year old young lady that has been through so much in her short life. She was given in marriage, for a dowry, at the age of 14. She had a child at 15 and was separated from him at 17 because she wanted to finish school. She is now excelling even though she is only in grade 7. Esther wants to receive a university education and become an agent of change for her new nation. The husbands family kept her 4 year old son when she returned to school, refusing to let her see him. In this culture, she has no voice to oppose the decisions of the man, no matter how unjust. Early marriage is a huge issue in Kajo-Keji county and South Sudan. Esther is just one example of the complications that arise from early marriage. Often these young girls die in childbirth and leave motherless children. They also can be the second or third wives of much older men and many contract syphilis and HIV. Esther has not seen her father since he received her bride price almost 5 years ago. Actually he left her mother and moved away with a new wife once he had the dowry. Esthers mother has no ability to help her with school fees or supplies. Of course the husband and his family feel cheated and do not support Esthers education at all.

Esther Gune

Come, you children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the LORD.
Psalm 34:11

Esther and Rose are being supported at Kinyiba Girls Primary Boarding School by Wings of Healing. Their school fees and supplies cost about $70 each, every three months. May God bless you all for your contribution to helping these dear ones to become educated women after Gods own heart.
