Delhi University Teachers Association An appeal to karamcharies to join the ongoing struggle

October 16, 2012 President/ Secretary Delhi University College and Karamcharis Union (DUCKU) University of Delhi Delhi 110007 Sub: Appeal for Solidarity with DUTAs Indefinite Relay Strike Dear Sir, As you know, the DUTAs Indefinite Relay Hunger Strike outside the VCs Office is now entering its second week. We are very grateful that the Office-bearers of DUCKU attended our Hunger Strike within the first week and promptly pledged solidarity with us. Encouraged by this comradely gesture, we are writing to you with great hope and expectations. While teachers are participating in the strike in large numbers, we feel that the success of this movement will depend heavily on Joint Action with all democratic organs of the University fraternity, viz. DUCKU and DUSU. The ability to challenge, in a unified way, the willfulness of the Vice Chancellor in not meeting the elected representatives, and keeping vital issues like fresh permanent appointments, due promotions, retirement benefits, working conditions and statutory processes in abeyance is crucial in order to prevent the Vice Chancellor from further vitiating the general atmosphere in the University. The Vice Chancellors stubbornness has resulted in creating deep divisions between the administration and employees. Since this situation has a direct bearing on both teachers and karamcharis, both need to join hands to wage an effective struggle. Therefore we appeal to you to lend your might to the strike by sharing our platform in large numbers and staging a massive Joint Action. In this regard, the DUTA has been also actively exploring the possibility of educating the students community and enlisting the support of the DUSU to combat the harm that the myopic administration of the University is causing to academics, thereby depriving large number of students of the right to quality education. In the light of these efforts, we have called for a Joint Protest of all the three democratic organs, viz. DUTA, DUCKU and DUSU at 2. 30 pm on Friday, 26th October 2012. We are hopeful that you will contribute your full strength to this protest and the massive turnout of students, karamcharis and teachers of will attract national attention on the negative situation prevailing in our University. Please convey our call to the DUCKU Working Committee at the earliest and communicate your decision to us. Thanking you. Warmest regards, Sd/(S.D. SIDDIQUI) Secretary, DUTA (AMAR DEO SHARMA) President, DUTA
