Over the course of the past year Conor
has visited many local schools to
support their work and hear about
any problems or issues that he can
help resolve.
During these visits, Conor always
makes time to spend as much time
with the pupils as possible - talking
to them about his work as a Member
of Parliament and also answering
their questions.
Conor has also welcomed a number
of schools to the Houses of
Parliament, where they have
enjoyed a tour, the chance to see the
House of Commons in action, as well as
time to talk to him about the burning

The Department of Health has
announced that it will support
two projects to directly benefit
residents of Bournemouth and
Poole.
The first is 500,000 of public
capital in 2011/12 and
2012/13 to South Ambulance
Foundation Trust. This will
enable the Trust to implement
their plans for Emergency and
Vital Signs Equipment
purchases.
The second is 1.3million for
Poole Hospital across
2011/12 and 2012/13. This
will enable the Trust to
purchase essential cancer
therapy equipment upgrades.

Under Labour there were the
equivalent of six new
regulations every working
day, or over 1,500 in a year.
The Government cut that
flow to 89 of which just 19
impose any cost to business.
Conor commented: This
Government is working
steadily to free businesses in
Bournemouth and Poole
from the stranglehold of
regulation that built up
during 13 years of Labour.
Latest figures show there
are 427,125 private sector
businesses in the South
West, employing 1,770,000
people altogether. This
Government is taking action
to help all of them. From
tackling major regulations
like environmental red tape
saving business 1 billion
over 5 years, to abolishing
small rules like the
requirement for bicycles to
be sold with bells, this
Government is determined
to do away with unnecessary
and burdensome red tape.

VISITING
LOCAL
SCHOOLS Conor was delighted to visit the
Suttoners Cricket Club at Kinson
Manor recently to chat to members
and see a game. Conor was invited
as a thank you for intervening to stop
the Councils insurers fromclosing the
club down following complaints of
stray balls (which was easily solved by
nets being put up).

Some Park Home residents have
concerns about the special legal
position relating to their properties.
Yes, they own their home but still
must pay the site owner a fee for the
right to base their property on a
particular pitch. Conor and Cllr David
dOrton-Gibson met face-to-face with
the Minister responsible for Park
Homes legislation where they were
able to raise these concerns.

COMMONS
Conor regularly speaks in the
Chamber of the House of
Commons, questioning
Ministers on matters of local
and national importance, as
well as contributing to debates
on proposed new laws.
Here are a selection of the
topics Conor has raised in the
House of Commons over the
past twelve months.
Gypsy and Travellers Sites
Conor has called on the Government
to scrap rules left by the last Labour
government that demand Councils
provide sites for Gypsies.
No to House of Lords Reform
Conor argued against reforming the
House of Lords, saying with the
House of Commons accepting more
than 80% of the amendments made
by the Lords, it is working well as a
revising Chamber.
Armed Forces Covenant
With figures from Combat Stress
indicating that some 48,000
veterans may suffer from some form
of mental health problem in the years
ahead, Conor warmly welcomed
Government plans for the unseen
scars of war to be treated as seriously
as the physical ones.
Employment Support
Following the closure of the Alder Hills
Remploy factory, Conor challenged
the Minister for Disabled People on
what can be done to involve disabled
people in better understanding the
challenges they face in accessing
employment.
International Monetary Fund
Following a statement by the
Chancellor, Conor pushed for the
Treasury to demand Germany does
more before Eurozone countries
receive further assistance from the
International Monetary Fund.
Deregulation to support business
Noting that between 1997 and 2011,
the UK fell from 7
th
to 10
th
in terms of
global competitiveness, Conor called
for a new focus on deregulation to
support small businesses.
Bahrain
Conor took the opportunity of Foreign
Office questions to argue that the
opposition parties in Bahrain need to
engage in constructive debate about
the future of the country.
Call to scrap Human Rights Act
Having received letters from
constituents dismayed by court
decisions that seem to laugh at
British values and beliefs, Conor
called on the Prime Minister to
remove the Human Rights Act from
British law.

Conor warmly welcomed the news earlier this
year that the Secretary of State for
Communities and Local Government accepted
the Planning Inspectors recommendation to
REFUSE planning permission for the proposed
development adjoining Talbot Heath.
The news came as a huge relief to thousands of
residents in communities around Talbot Heath
and is a great example of democracy in action.
So many people played their part in preserving
this vital area of green space between
Bournemouth and Poole. Working with
residents, Conor and local Conservative
Councillors in both Branksome East ward and
Talbot and Branksome Woods ward have
fought hard against this scheme and secured
an excellent result that protects our area now
and into the future.
An e-petition has been started on the Number
10 website urging people to voice their
opposition to the Navitus Bay Wind Park which
will blight the Dorset coastline with Eneco
planning to build 150 to 240 turbines in Poole
Bay, around 10 miles from Bournemouth and
Poole, and eight miles from Swanage and
Christchurch.
Commenting Conor said, This petition is a
chance for local people to make their objections
about the wind park known. I congratulate the
local people who started the petition and urge
everyone concerned to sign it.
Figures quoted in the Bournemouth Echo
suggest the scheme could cost Dorset
hundreds of jobs in its tourism sector.
Still at consultation stage, the scheme will need
planning permission from the government.
Conor believes Bournemouth should have some
democratic input and has arranged a meeting
with ministers Greg Clark and Ed Davey to press
the case against.
Conor added: Tourism is the biggest employer
in Bournemouth and I am anything that harms
it.

parties and other celebrations across
Bournemouth and Poole to mark Her Majesty
The Queens Diamond Jubilee.

Conor has kept up the pressure on Government
to ensure new immigration rules do not
adversely affect our local language schools.
Bournemouths economy relies heavily on
tourism and the benefits of visitors, both long and
short-term. Students who come to Bournemouth
to learn English often stay with families, who in
turn use this income to support themselves and
supplement their current incomes. It is estimated
that as many as 20,000 local families make
money in this way.
The key argument is that there needs to be a way
to restrict immigration and people who over-stay
their visas, clampdown on bogus language
schools and other abuses at the same time as
encouraging international students who
genuinely want to come to Britain to learn English
and who will then return to their home countries.
This is an issue Conor has been championing
since 2010 and most recently he led a delegation
to see the Immigration Minister Damian Green to
make the case for special provision for language
school students in immigration rules.
Commenting after the meeting Conor said, This
discussion was vitally important to ensure the
Immigration Minister fully understands the
unintended consequences for language schools
of the otherwise excellent changes to
immigration rules. Damian Green listened
carefully to all the concerns and has promised to
take the case for special provision for language
students in the immigration reforms into account.
Damian was particularly pleased to hear that the
introduction of the extended student visitor visa
which was introduced as a temporary measure
was helping local language schools and indicated
that the Government had no plans to revoke it.
