It is a bad thing because theism is, whether we like it or not, at odds with science, and science is the best, most reliable, most verifiable, most credible way to the truth and reality of nature. That being said as power slips away from the people and to those that would exploit them, they are further compromised by admonishment to reject science and so science suffers. Why do theists persecute science? They don't feel threatened do they? In debate, when speaking with authority and prosecuting the truth, the preferred line of attack is a question that you already know the answer to; like chess you play your words carefully. Now although you think you already know the answer, that is your answer and is a judgement passed by you in your understanding. So the question is implied judgement. If it is truth it is applied judgement.
