Garcia said her dad also is part owner of the Vista Hills Country Club, and has other restaurants in El Paso, in Odessa and in Juarez. Its challenging to run an operation like this, especially since we took it over. I find myself explaining to customers about the new ownership. Our plans, however, are to continue doing what were doing, and that means offering exclusive, elegant service at reasonable prices.

When it comes to precipitation (rain and/or snow) the El Paso area is under the "equal chance" (EC). This means that we will have an equal chance of seeing above, below or normal amounts of precipitation. Again, the models are having a hard time predicting what will develop due to the complex weather pattern setting up. Those areas hit hard by extreme drought over the past year (like the Midwest) are not expected see much relief from dry conditions. According to NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) this seasonal outlook does not project where and when snowstorms may hit or provide total seasonal snowfall accumulations. Snow forecasts are dependent upon the strength and track of winter storms, which are generally not predictable more than a week in advance..

By Sharon Mosley With the holidays fast approaching, it's time get down to some serious shopping for cocktail attire, that is. Most of us know the sinking feeling of having an important party to attend and feeling like we have nothing to wear. But before the ice cubes start tinkling, you can head off the panic attacks and take some advice from a fashion pro Nina Garcia. As the fashion director of Marie Claire magazine, a judge on the Project Runway series and author of Nina Garcia's Look Book: "What to Wear for Every Occasion," Garcia is an authority on what to wear on the party circuit. "It's a good thing I love a cocktail party," she says. "In my business, I sometimes attend a cocktail party or two every night of the week. So believe me when I tell you that I have this down to a science. Cocktail parties are about elegant, show-stopping outfits that turn heads. Period, the end." Luxury fabrics and embellishments are key to getting glamorous, according to Garcia. Ruffles, feathers, beading, or sequins are all welcome at a cocktail party though, generally, not all on one dress, says Garcia. Here are Garcia's tips from her Look Book on what to wear to your next soiree:
rely on for holiday festivities. Garcia suggests silky pants and a sequined tunic as an excellent alternative to the cocktail dress. "You can also wear sequined baggy peg leg trousers (very YSL), a silk jumpsuit, or sharp tuxedo pants." If you're in a tropical climate, even shorts can be dressed up with opaque tights and stilettos, she says. "Add a silk blouse, throw on a tuxedo jacket, and you're ready for action."
Accessories: "A little black dress is the perfect backdrop for a statement piece," she says. "Stunning drop earrings with an updo, an ornate cuff, or bangles to show off a toned arm." However she urges caution: "Always make sure your jewelry isn't taking over you or your ensemble and keep everything in proportion to your frame. Balance is key in dressing and in life." The Wrap: Garcia suggests wearing a sequin-encrusted number that will "encase you in a cloud of sparkle." For colder weather, she likes sumptuous velvet wraps or a faux fur chubby, stole, bolero or vest.
Party shoes: Go for strappy heels. "Metallics add glam to a simple dress," she says. Booties are another modern and chic way to accessorize cocktail attire, "especially with pretty lace or pattern stockings to add a little texture and whimsy." Handbag: A clutch or small bag is another accessory that can make a party outfit come alive. "A vintage bag is always a lovely accent piece," says Garcia. "Other alternatives are a clutch bag of soft material like leather, satin, or mesh; a box clutch, which is harder and usually geometric; or a jeweled minaudiere." And no, your bag does not have to match your shoes. "Choose a bag that complements your ensemble," she says. "For instance, if you're wearing black with a patterned or brightly colored shoe, go for something like a black beaded clutch with a detail or trim that picks up a color from the shoe."
Sharon Mosley is a former fashion editor of the Arkansas Gazette in Little Rock and executive director of the Fashion Editors and Reporters Association.

A Cocktail Dress: Nothing beats the LBD (little black dress), admits Garcia. "It's easy to accessorize, always slimming, total perfection. Black does not have to be boring; mixing textures or matte and shiny materials adds an interesting edge to your basic black." Garcia suggests adding a patent leather belt or shoes, or a satin jacket over a crepe dress. "For a posh event, I wear something simple and elegant. A tailored silhouette with a skirt that hits just below the knee is becoming to almost every figure. Anything that falls more than an inch or two below the knee to just above the ankle is a tough length to pull off, unless the skirt is very, very fitted or you are Grace Jones. Believe me."
When Garcia has a semiformal fashion industry event, she says she goes for "an edgier look: asymmetry, strong color and sophistication. Break out of your chromatic rut and try a gorgeous jewel tone or a rich, deep red or burnt orange."

Eat Your Fruits and Veggies; Wal-Mart, American Express Offer Non-bank Option Repeat Six More Times signed to be transactional, not to consumers who recognize It's the odd couple of personal 4:30 p.m. newscast, and can
Happiness and good mental health are highest among people who eat seven portions of fruit and vegetables each day, according to a University of Warwick study. Researchers studied the eating habits of 80,000 Britons, and found that feelings of well-being rose with the number of servings of fruit and vegetables, peaking at seven. Most government health agencies recommend at least five portions a day for cardiovascular health and to reduce cancer risk. Less than one-third of Americans average even two servings of fruit and vegetables per day. A serving is measured as 80 grams, or almost 3 ounces. The study did not distinguish between different types of fruit or vegetables, though we're pretty sure Brussels sprouts were not high on the list. finance. Wal-Mart and American Express are teaming up to circumvent the traditional banking system by offering a new, mostly free product to consumers. The new Bluebird account is being billed as an alternative to debit and checking accounts, while offering most of the same features. But its biggest attraction is that there is no minimum account balance, no fees (either monthly or annual), a free debit card and no credit inquiry required to open the account. The account offers a Bluebird card, which you carry in your wallet. But you can access your money or deposit cash at any Wal-Mart cash register. You can download a free app for your smartphone, letting you deposit a check by taking a photo, similar to apps now available at the largest banks. And you can pay bills online from this account at Bluebird.com. Friends or relatives with Bluebird accounts can transfer money directly to you or you can set up sub-accounts for your teens or college students, allowing quick money transfers. If you sign up for direct deposit of your paycheck, the card can be used with no fee to withdraw cash at MoneyPass network ATMs, more than 22,000 locations. Withdrawals through another ATM network are charged a $2 fee and local network fees may apply. The Bluebird card itself is an American Express product, so it can be used to charge purchases at any merchant or online site that accepts American Express. Those purchases benefit from Amex guarantees such as purchase protection. And holders also get Amex roadside assistance, Global Assist services and fraud protection. This card is designed to appeal that banking fees and charges have soared dramatically in the past two years. Wal-Mart and Amex point out that last year banks received more than $31 billion in overdraft fees. And studies show that consumers pay an average of $259 per year in basic checking fees. The Bluebird account has a fee schedule that is all zeros, including no charges for inactivity, for a replacement card, for any electronic bill payment, for customer service calls or for foreign currency transactions. There are no overdraft charges because you can't withdraw or charge more than your account balance. Bluebird is designed to be a "bank account in a box," says Wal-Mart's VP of Financial Services Daniel Eckert. You will be able to pick up this starter kit box at Wal-Mart checkout aisles for $5. Or you can sign up free online at www.Bluebird.com. Start by depositing from $1 to $500 to open the account. That can be done right away at the WalMart register. You can add as much as $10,000 per month to the account, with a limit of $1,000 in deposits in any one day. The Bluebird account is not an FDIC insured bank account. It is backed by the resources of American Express. So it is deserve as a savings reservoir. You cannot write paper checks on this account yet. The partners hint that service is coming in 2013. And you won't build up your credit record using this account, since it is solely a debit card. What this new Bluebird account does do is force traditional banks and credit unions to compete to serve their customers at lower costs. The Wal-Mart and American Express partnership doesn't have the huge overhead and physical infrastructure of traditional banks so their costs are lower. And the ordinary consumer is getting the benefit of that advantage. That's the Savage Truth. Terry Savage is a registered investment adviser and is on the board of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. MUD PUPPIES
By Gina Spadafori Universal Uclick Mud is my life because I share that life with retrievers. While many dogs enjoy swimming, few go to the extremes of a true water dog in maintaining a coat thats always damp if at all possible, and feet that are as muddy as can be. Walk around a puddle? Ive seen my dogs go out of their way to walk through a puddle. As if it werent hard enough to keep my old home clean, I decided to move to one that was even more difficult. Thats because the new home is on acreage, with more room for mud and more reason to be out in it, since Im outside with the dogs every day feeding my horses. I had to up my game to keep this house clean, but the same rules applied. The best way to keep floors clean is to never let them get dirty. And that means catching those muddy paws before they come inside. Here are some tips:
Use mats. Put water-trapping mats both inside and outside the door. A small doormat can be jumped over, so go for something larger. The wider the area of matting, the more chance you have of every paw hitting the mat at least once. Outside my doors, I have large black industrial mats that hose off easily. Inside, I have colorcoordinated Waterhog mats from L.L.Bean expensive

Good chemistry
Newman, former crew chief Borland reunited
move to Danica Patricks team beginning at her home track, Phoenix International Raceway. Now the NASCAR world will see if Newman and Borland can recreate their winning chemistry. Greg Zipadelli, the former crew chief for Tony Stewart who now serves as competition director at Stewart-Haas Racing, believes they can. Matt Borland has had great success as a crew chief, and much of it came when he and Ryan Newman worked together, Zipadelli said in a team release. Matt and Ryan both have engineering backgrounds, and they have similar mindsets. Its a pairing that produced some very good results and theres no reason why it cant produce similar results now that theyre back together. Their four races together this year will position them very well for 2013. Zipadelli isnt alone in the Sprint Cup garage when it comes to seeking the right chemistry among key members of a race team. Eddie Wood, part of the second generation of the Wood Brothers racing team, said when a team hits on the right combination of personnel, it should do everything it can to keep them together. I used to make fun of people who talked about chemistry, but Im pretty much a believer in it now, because Ive lived it, he said. There have been combinations that have been magic and shouldnt have gotten messed up and changed, but they did. And it was usually outside interference.

n Sprint Cup racing, or any team sport for that matter, chemistry between driver and crew, or coach and players, is often cited as one of the keys to success. Team chemistry is difficult to explain and almost impossible to intentionally create. It just seems to happen. When it does, the results are often phenomenal. But the chemistry also can be lost, and the results soon show it.
chunk of them with Leonard Wood as his crew chief. Jeff Gordon had his best years with Ray Evernham as his crew chief, and Bobby Labonte was at his best with Jimmy Makar calling the shots. Together they won 19 races, but Labonte has only won two since they parted. Ryan Newman won 12 races and 37 poles while working with crew chief Matt Borland at Penske Racing from 20022006. Since then, Newman has won four races and 11 poles. But beginning this week at Martinsville Speedway, Newman and Borland will be reunited. The change is part of a personnel shuffle at Stewart-Haas Racing that will see Newmans current crew chief, Tony Gibson,
In NASCAR racing, some of the sports all-time win leaders had their best years while working with the same crew chief. Richard Petty, the sports all-time win leader with 200 race victories, had most of his success with his cousin Dale Inman as crew chief. David Pearson, second on the all-time list with 105 wins, got the biggest
the schedule, including Martinsville, where he has four wins. We just shot ourselves in the foot a lot, he said. 4. Clint Bowyer -25 (finished sixth) He had hoped to back up his Charlotte victory with another at his home track, but it was not to be. Weve just got to keep digging, he said. I was hoping to gain a little bit more than that, but we had a solid day. Just frustrating, though. 5. Kasey Kahne -30 (finished fourth) He was running second late in the race, but stalled his car trying to save fuel under caution and dropped to sixth for the final restart, ending what appeared to be a good chance for victory. We had a good car; we got back to fourth, he said. 6. Martin Truex Jr. -43 (finished second) Another strong run at Kansas wasnt enough to give him much of a boost in the points standings. Thats a good run for us, for sure, he said. Just a little
bit too tight there at the end there to run with Matt [Kenseth]. 7. Tony Stewart -47 (finished fifth) The defending Cup champion overcame a penalty for driving away from his pit stall with a wrench in his car, then saved his car when he looked to be about to crash. We have a ways to go, but Im really proud of our guys, he said. 8. Jeff Gordon -51 (finished 10th)

his points lead. It seemed like every wreck that happened, happened right in front of me, he said. It was a tough day. 2. Jimmie Johnson -7 (finished ninth) Despite a wreck that looked as if it could send their car to the garage for lengthy repairs, the No. 48 crew patched up their car and Johnson drove it to a top-10 finish. 3. Denny Hamlin -20 (finished 13th) Early race handling woes, coupled with a late stop for fuel, left him with a mediocre finish. But some of his best tracks remain on

equipped the X3 with a rear view camera and a navigation system. As the BMW 3-Series is the bench mark for luxury sports sedans, the same can almost be said for the X3. Power from the turbo six is brisk and plentiful, but the X3 really shines in the handling department, where it feels more like a sports car than an SUV, mostly in part to the xDrive system. In my week with the X3, I became a big fan of it, probably because Im not a huge fan of SUVs - and the X3 hardly feels like one. Its easily one of the best-looking SUVs on the road and it drives like a BMW should with excellent communication between driver and road. With pricing starting in the upper-$30s, I wouldnt call the X3 unreasonable. Yes you can get bigger SUVs for less money, and even more luxurious SUVs for less money, but none of them would be a Bimmer.
Im going to come right out and say it the BMW X3 is not for everyone wanting an SUV. If you want a vehicle that can go four-wheeling, carry tons of stuff, and be luxurious, the X3 is not for you. But if you want a vehicle that is powerful, drives like a sports car and looks stylish then read on. Last year, BMW fully redesigned the X3 making it bigger, more powerful and drive better. Its still considered a small luxury crossover SUV, but in reality the X3 is now almost the same size as the original X5 BMWs large SUV. No longer based off of the 3Series car, the five-passenger X3 is now built alongside the X5 and X6 SUVs at BMWs Spartanburg Plant in Greer, South Carolina. From just about any angle the
more power and apply it, if necessary. This ensures for a safe ride when road and weather conditions are not up to par. But when the roads are ideal, xDrive allows for a very exhilarating experience. It handles extremely well and like all BMWs, the steering is quick and with plenty of feel. There are two different X3 models and they are differentiated by their engines. Unfortunately BMWs naming convention no longer makes it easy to determine the engine size. Both models feature a 3.0 liter inline-6 cylinder engine. The entry level X3 - the xDrive28i is rated at 240 horsepower and has 17-inch wheels. The xDrive35i ups that to 300 horsepower by way of a turbocharger and it rolls on 18inch wheels. A panaramic sunroof is standard on the xDrive35i. Both utilize an eight-speed automatic transmission. My tester came to me as an xDrive35i loaded with cool (and expensive) features like a Sport Activity Package that adds 19-inch wheels and sport seats, a Cold Weather Package that put heaters in those seats and steering wheel, the Premium Package which added a power tailgate, rear window shades and ambience lighting, and a Technology Package that
X3 looks handsome and nicely tailored. Up front you will spot BMWs trademark twin-kidney grille and chiseled hood. The squinting headlights round the corners to crisp body lines. At the rear, the body tapers slightly toward the top, giving it a larger, more impressive stance. It all works very well together making it one of the best looking SUVs on the road.
The X3s interior will be familiar to anyone that has spent time in a BMW. While not the most luxurious, its still tastefully done in an expensive way with nearly perfect fit and finish. On the dash, analog gauges that seem to have gone unchanged for the past 20 years continue to be used - and still look great. The consolemounted gearshift lever controls the automatic transmission

off and you couldnt control it, and the guys were sliding everywhere. It wasnt just the guys who were sliding everywhere. Danica Patrick wrecked her No. 10 Chevrolet after intentionally spinning Landon Cassills No. 83 Toyota. Its been pretty consistent with [Cassill] getting into me, Patrick said. So at some point in time, I have to stand up for myself, or everybodys going to do it. Cassill, on his two-way radio, offered his comment. Rule No. 1 in stock car racing is learn how to wreck someone without wrecking yourself, he said. Cassill, who escaped the Patrick effort at retaliation without significant damage to his car, went on to finish 18th, tying his best finish of the season. Patrick finished 32nd, not far off her average finish of 30.2 in eight Cup starts this year.
