Highly educated and trained in the arts, Greene spent the early part of his career as a musician and ceramicist. While he has never stopped focusing on his own art, Greene quickly found that his passion for arts and business was a natural fit to advance the work of other artists, arts associations and educational concerns across the nation. In 1988, Mike Greene became president and chief executive of NARAS and he grew the Grammys from a small enterprise into the major entertainment and cultural institution that it is today. While he is best known for the success of the high-profile Grammys, the work Mike Greene did behind the scenes in that role is perhaps the most important. He worked tirelessly for political and social change inside and outside of the music industry. He fought for reform in the areas of intellectual property rights and copyright infringement. Secondly, he stood up for artists first amendment rights. Additionally, he promoted music and arts education, fought to maintain funding for national arts agencies, and advocated for the archival and preservation of music worldwide. In conjunction with his work as the NARAS chief, Mike Greene also founded Musicares to help treat artists struggling with mental health, substance abuse and general welfare issues, he served as the spokesperson for the National Association of Music Therapists and was one of the founders of the National Coalition for Music Education and the Grammy Foundation. Under the leadership of Michael Greene, the Artist Tribe Foundation endeavors to provide arts-based mentoring, education, and therapy to improve health and wellness in society through the arts. Remaining ever-innovative, Greene continues to lead Artist Tribe and the Artist Tribe Foundation advancing new artistic and philanthropic endeavors while facilitating artistic endeavors and working to ensure that the environment for artists around the world remains vital and free.

The Foundation and Mr. Greene, who is the films Producer and Executive Producer, are receiving accolades for its creative, educational and cultural significance. It isn't difficult to understand how Artist Tribe came to serve its dual functions after examining the career of Michael Greene, the organization's founder, president, and CEO. Over the course of a career that has spanned decades, he has built numerous companies in the creative and technology communities. While he may be best known for his lengthy and successful stewardship of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS) -- better known as the Grammys -- Michael Greene was already a respected artist, producer, and media entrepreneur. Since ending his tenure with NARAS, Greene has put most of his energy into two major and interlinked passions that were always important threads throughout his career: fostering connections among artists, and advocating for the use of the arts in philanthropic ways to help the physically impaired and less fortunate.
