The Everglades Project

First Deadline: Research- December 6th

All research is to be shared on Google docs. Please share two documents- with editing privileges, with both Mrs. Benner (sbenner@berkshirecountryday.org )and Mrs. Tumenas (mtumenas@mybcd.org ) You will be sharing a research document and an image citation document- thats 2 documents. Gather information so that you have the appropriate information to credit sources. You will need the urls of your factual information to credit in the research document. You will need url, name of photograph, photographers name and the licensing information for each image you plan to use. After you find all of the information you need, transfer your notes to a Google doc and organize it by the various categories. The Google doc you share should not just be a raw list of information gathered. Please filter your information, organize it and make an attempt to put this in your own words. As this will be a lot of factual information, it is very difficult not to just copy and paste. Some facts are just that, simply facts. Other categories are more descriptive and therefore more open to your own interpretation. You must cite your sources for Mrs.Benners research, as well as provide detailed credits for the images for Mrs.Tumenas (see the next page for details on citing images) Mrs. Benners List 1. pictures 2. habitat- including a range map 3. identifying characteristics 4. nick names 5. latin name (Genus species) 6. reproduction 7. food feeding method if needed 8. Animals mistaken for 9. unique characteristics.

IMAGES All images should be downloaded to your computer, uploaded to google drive and stored on the U-drive (the server). Do not paste your images into the google doc. All images must be credited to the photographer or illustrator on your research document. Do not use images that you cannot legally credit. Get twice as

many images as you think you will need and get the biggest size possible- full resolution or original sizes. You will not have time to do this in class. This is homework for science class.
This is an example of the format required for your image credits: Image Name: Birds at the Waterhole 2 URL: http://www.flickr.com/photos/bac_clin/466713635/ Photographer: Rusty One License Information: CC Attribution-Noncommercial-No Derivative Works If you find an image that you really want to use, which is not labeled for reuse with modification, you may email the photographer and ask permission to use it for your project. Please see Mrs. Tumenas for details on how to do this and how to document the permission. Please check the images size carefully. Your page will be 11 by 17 and printed at 300 ppi. You will be much more successful if you limit your image search to large or extra large images. Test your images in InDesign using view>actual size to be sure that they will print properly.
