SAINT GUIDO MARIA CONFORTI,

bishop and founder Solemnity
Guido M. Conforti was born in Ravadese (Parma, Italy) on 30 March 1865. An encounter with a large crucifix transformed his life. He joined the seminary and was ordained priest in 1888. He founded the Congregation of the Xaverian Missionaries in 1895. In 1902, he was appointed Archbishop of Ravenna, but serious health problems forced him to resign in 1904. Pope Pius X appointed him bishop of Parma in 1907. In his 24 years there as bishop, he took special care of the clergy, promoted religious instruction, carried out five pastoral visits, held two diocesan synods, promoted and took part in Eucharistic, Marian and Missionary Congresses and supported Catholic Action. In 1916, he helped Fr. Paolo Manna to found the Pontifical Missionary Union of the Clergy and served as its first president. He sent his missionaries to China and personally visited that country in 1928. He died in Parma on 5 November 1931.

SAINT GUIDO MARIA CONFORTI,

bishop and founder Solemnity FIRST READING
All the nations will stream to the mountain of the Temple of the Lord

A reading from the prophet Isaiah 2:2-5 n the days to come the mountain of the Temple of the Lord shall tower above the mountains and be lifted higher than the hills. All the nations will stream to it, peoples without number will come to it; and they will say: Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the Temple of the God of Jacob that he may teach us his ways so that we may walk in his paths; since the Law will go out from Zion, and the oracle of the Lord from Jerusalem. He will wield authority over the nations and adjudicate between many peoples; these will hammer their swords into ploughshares, their spears into sickles. Nation will not lift up sword against nation, there will be no more training for war. O House of Jacob, come, let us walk in the light of the Lord. This is the word of the Lord. V/. Thanks be to God.

St. Guido Maria Conforti

RESPONSORIAL PSALM

Psalm 67 (66):2-8

R/. Let the peoples praise you, o God, let all the peoples praise you. God, be gracious and bless us and let your face shed its light upon us. So will your ways be known upon earth and all nations learn your saving help. R/. Let all the nations be glad and exult, for you rule the world with justice, with fairness you rule the peoples, you guide the nations on earth. R/. The earth has given its fruit. May God still give us his blessing till the ends of the earth revere him. R/.

St. Guido Maria Conforti

SECOND READING
I claimed knowledge about the crucified Christ

A reading from the first letter of St. Paul to the Corinthians 2:1-5 rothers, when I came to you, it was not with any show of oratory or philosophy, but simply to tell you what God had guaranteed. During my stay with you, the only knowledge I claimed to have was about Jesus, and only about him as the crucified Christ. Far from relying on any power of my own, I came among you in great fear and trembling and in my speeches and the sermons that I gave, there were none of the arguments that belong to philosophy; only a demonstration of the power of the Spirit. And I did this so that your faith should not depend on human philosophy but on the power of God. This is the word of the Lord. V/. Thanks be to God.

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION

Jn 10:4

R/. Alleluia, alleluia I am the Good Shepherd, says the Lord. I know my own and my own know me. R/. Alleluia.

St. Guido Maria Conforti

GOSPEL
I am the good shepherd.

A reading from the holy Gospel according to John 10:11-16 esus said: I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd is one who lays down his life for his sheep. The hired man, since he is not the shepherd and the sheep do not belong to him, abandons the sheep and runs away as soon as he sees a wolf coming, and then the wolf attacks and scatters the sheep; this is because he is only a hired man and has no concern for the sheep. I am the good shepherd; I know my own and my own know me just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for my sheep. And there are other sheep I have that are not of this fold, and these I have to lead as well. They too will listen to my voice, and there will be only one flock, and one shepherd. This is the Gospel of the Lord. V/. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
