1. Think of a Project at your organization and write about it in 5-10 lines. We at Mazda Concrete Products Pvt. Ltd. received an order from (BRPL) Brahmani Rivers Pellets Ltd. for three different types of special sleepers. These sleepers were designed by the MECON, Bhubaneshwar along with its specifications and it would be used for their reclamation unit. As we are specialized in Pre-stressed concrete thus they i.e. BRPL placed this order to us. However these sleepers were not pre-stressed concrete but Re-enforced concrete. We have given some value addition to this design to facilitate the production and handling. The concrete Mix was M25.We calculated all the require raw materials, steel reinforcement along with the mould cost. As we have never casted these types of special sleepers, we thought that it is better to cast atleast one sleepers before finalizing rate. We prepared only one mould for the first sleepers and casted that sleepers. We called upon BRPL engineer and their consultant to inspect the sleepers after its steam curing and de-moulding. With their first visual inspection they passed it and it was also dimensionally checked. After their inspection we quoted them finally and they accepted it and the order was finally awarded to us. 2. Why is this task a Project and not part of regular operation? We are PSC Sleepers (Pre-stressed Concrete Sleepers) manufacturer which is used for Railway Tracks and these reinforced concrete sleepers were specially designed by the MECON.As these sleepers were not a regular type of sleepers thus we treated it as a special project for a certain period. 3. Define the start date and tentative end date of the project. The purchase order was give on 24.06.10 and the schedule completion date was 31.10.10 for their first order. Meanwhile they placed a second order for same sleepers for another plant and we completed the production by 15.12.10for both the orders. 4. Identify the traits of Project Manager for this particular project. For this particular project the project manager should have the knowledge about the specification of the sleepers and their requirement. He should know how to initiate the project and can make the plan for its execution and subsequently able to monitor and control the deviation if any. This project has some sub projects viz. Mould Fabrication, Steel Reinforcement truss making , casting, inspection, handling and dispatch, thus the project manager should be able to guide this team for the timely completion of the project.
