ABOUT CONCOR
Incorporated in March 1988, Container Corporation of India (CONCOR) is a multi-modal (rail and road) logistics support provider for the country`s EXIM and domestic trade and commerce, working under the ministry of railways, government of India. CONCOR commenced operation from November 1989 taking over the existing network of 7 Inland Containers Depots (ICD`s) from the Indian Railways. The company`s core business is characterized by three distinct activities that of a carrier, a terminal operator, and a warehouse operator. The company provides a single window facility coordinating with all the different agencies and services involved in the containerized cargo trade right from customs, gateway ports, and railways, to road haulers, consolidators, forwarders, custom house agents and shipping lines. Container Corporation of India has value-added services like linking of road or short lead rail shuttle services to long lead point-to-point train services (hub and spoke services), integrated freight terminals, transportation of perishable products from source to enduser (cold chains), and total logistics solutions. CONCOR has over 5,200 state-of-the-art high-speed bogies, low-height container flat-wagons (type BLC) in service. The company has a total of 57 terminals, of which 48 are export-import container depots, and nine exclusive domestic container depots. The customs bonded inland container depots are dry ports in the hinterland and serve to bring all port facilities including customs clearance to the customer`s doorstep. CONCOR also operates container terminals across the country to cater to the needs of the trade, whether in the EX-IM or the domestic business.

OPERATION DEPARTMENT
Operation department handles container movement from one destination to another destination; it keeps the records of all wagons with loaded and unloaded container movement from dry port to desirable destination port.

All shipping companies containers kept at dry port, which when required are been allotted the container of the respective shipping line, then operation department will allot the container to that particular allotted customer. The CONCOR department has its own 100(+) railways which are only used for container transaction. There are 45 wagons in one train the total of 45 wagons is called as a Rake. There are 12 separate rake allotted to Nagpur only. In one Rake there are 45 wagons in one wagon two 20 feet container or one 40 feet container can be placed. In one movement 90 containers are transported. The booking, checking of the container is done in operation department. It also handles the rake planning and gives position of the container (arrival, departure and present status).

Management Information System

Management information system is particularly a concor department where the complete networking of the server is done. It is directly connected to the head-quarter at Delhi. It is to provide faster service to the customer. This section is always keen to handle the network system within the organization. It also gives exact location of container due to the faster technology. It has ETMS software within the organization. All the information of goods can be easily gathered/viewed via online software. RDT(Radio data terminal) is a device which shows detailed about the container position and gives appropriate information.

Billing counter
The billing section is main source of the CONCOR. There are two types of billing counter. 1. Domestic 2. International

Domestic:
Domestic bill contain all billing for domestic business i.e. within the country. The difference is only that it provides containers to party but it does not contain any duties.
6

There is a different section of billing for domestic transaction and the server is connected to MIS department. This has link with headquarter at Delhi.

International:
International billing contains all billing of exported and imported goods. It has its different section of billing. The various documents needed along with bills i.e. Bill of entry for imported goods etc. Bill of lading for shipping line and shipping bill for exported goods. Job order is also attached from this section.

PDA A/C Department

CONCOR maintains PDA a/c of customer for dealing daily financial transaction which provides the facility to customer for that they have to maintain Rs.20, 000 minimum balances on the PDA a/c. If exporter or importer uses this facility of CONCOR then the service charges are deducted from the pre deposit a/c balance. By the use of PDA a/c in the organization it is easily forwarded with the exact position of the business to the head office. They can fatly transfer the fund also.

AWARDS AND ACHIEVEMENTS

CONCOR has over the year demonstrated that a public sector enterprise can not grow only profitably, but also contribute significantly to the growth and economic development of the country. The excellence in performance has resulted due to recognition and award for the company, which are as under: MOU excellence award for four consecutive years (2004-2008)

ISO 90001-2000 quality system certification for 35 terminals/units obtained upto

2007-2008. Top Indian company in the shipping and logistic sector for the dun & BradstreetAmerican express corporate awards, 2007-2008 consecutively. CONCOR has received corporate excellence award from amity international for the year 2007.

OBJECTIVE:Objective of the study are:1. To study the Import and Export Materials in Inland Container Depot. 2. To study documents required in Import and Export Process. 3. To study about the Trains which import and export Materials? 4. To study about the contractor of ICD and There Trucks. 5. To study Name of the Companies where the Materials are exported from ICD. 6. To study about the Containers which are used For Transportation.

SWOT ANALYSIS OF CONCOR STRENGTHS

Incumbent player with significant market share and margins significantly higher than the other players. CONCOR accounts for one-third of the countrys EXIM container traffic. Infrastructure advantage -200 wagons, 175 rakes operating per year, 57 terminals, the company plans to add to this infrastructure to take advantage of the expected growth in EXIM trade. The company also own its terminals, which is substantial advantage given that other players pay close to 40% of their freight revenue as terminal charges. Significance presences at JNPT and other major Indian ports. Long-standing relationship with Indian railways.

WEAKNESSES
Poor asset maintenance has led to lower efficiency and clogged capacity. Top 20 terminals handle 83% of total volumes. So that balance 65% of terminals handled only 17% of the total volumes. Consequently there is large portion of capacity not being optically utilized.

OPPORTUNITIES
Increase in the penetration of containerization in India is currently at 60% vs.

80% globally. We expect the penetration to improve to 75% driven by cost advantage in favor of containerization. Substantial growth expected in international trade, according to estimates from the ministry of trade and commerce.

Rapid growth of organized retail and agro processing industries and strong FDI inflows into various industries should lead to enhanced market opportunities for logistic market.

THREATS
High land acquisition cost for developing ICD implies that the sector is capital intensive. Business depends on international trade to a greater extend. Thus companies in this sector are exposed to geopolitical risk. Competition from truck operators.

What is Inland Container Depot (ICD)?

The present trend in the international trade is containerization of cargo. The full benefits of containerization can be derived only when the containers are, permitted to be moved to points in close proximity to important industrial station so that the importers can get clearance of the imported goods at the nearest point to their factory/premise. The facility is helpful to the exporters as they can export the goods from the nearest point of their factory/premise in order to provide this facility some statutory conditions are to be fulfilled and necessary infrastructure provided. To start with, the Government of India issued a notification under Section 7 of the Customs Act 1962 appointing a suitable place as inland container Depot for the unloading of the import goods and the loading of export goods or any class of such goods. After issue of such notification, the Commissioner of Customs having jurisdiction over that place issues a notification under Section 8 of the Customs Act, 1962 approving proper places in the ICD for the loading and unloading of the goods and also specify the limits of Customs area.

What is "Container Freight Station"(CFS)?

A For the purpose of examination, assessment of the containerized cargo, both import and export container freight Station (CFS) are set up. They are appointed as custodians of the imported goods by the Commissioner of Customs, under Section 45 of the Customs Act, 1962. The imported goods shall remain in the custody of such person as approved by the Commissioner of Customs until they are cleared for home consumption or are warehoused or are transshipped. The procedure to clear the imported goods for home consumption or warehousing or export goods is the same as discussed.

RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODOLOGY :The system of collecting data for research projects is known as research methodology. The data may be collected for either theoretical or practical research for example management research may be strategically conceptualized along with operational planning methods and change management. Some important factors in research methodology include validity of research data, Ethics and the reliability of measures most of your work is finished by the time you finish the analysis of your data. This research was conducted in order to determine the custom clearance through ICD, what are the Process and Documents required for importing and exporting Materials. PROBLEM STATEMENT: To study about the Process and Documents required for importing and exporting Materials

DATA COLLECTION METHOD: PRIMARY SOURCE:

Data that has been collected from first-hand-experience is known as primary data. Primary data has not been published yet and is more reliable, authentic and objective. Primary data has not been changed or altered by human beings; therefore its validity is greater than secondary data. This can be through Direct interview, direct Observation Telephone interviews amongst others.

14

SECONDARY SOURCES:
Data collected from a source that has already been published in any form is called as secondary data. The review of literature in any research is based on secondary data. This can be mostly from books, journals, periodicals and magazines. Secondary data is very useful in deciding the objectives of research study. In this project, data is collected from Internet and Various Literatures and articles related to commercial vehicle and construction equipment.

RESEARCH DESIGN:
DESCRIPTIVE RESEARCH: Descriptive research design is a scientific method which involves observing and describing the behavior of a subject without influencing it in any way. These types of experiments are often used by anthropologists, psychologists and social scientists to observe natural behaviors without affecting them in any way. It is also used by market researchers to judge the habits of customers, or by companies wishing to find the procedural aspects & new interpretation of the transactions. The descriptive method of research was used for this study. The emphasis is on describing & interpreting rather than on judging. This method allows a flexible approach, thus, when important new issues and questions arise during the duration of study, further investigation can be conducted.
