We all know what passion is... its a powerful emotion, such as joy and love. OR having a deep down wonderful excitement for something! Like roller skating!

Not to long ago, I was in high school, walking down this hallway everyday to my art classes. CLICK YES, that is me. And this is my last day of my senior year. Trying to create that oh, so exciting throw of all out papers. BUT I was also a ballerina on stage, the middle point of a dance team kick-line, yelling in the stands at football games, and painting huge canvases, and doing yoga. A lot. CLICK This was all about my choices. Do I dance or paint? That is what it came down to.

WHY DESIGN? I attended a studio visit as we call them. WHy history, shape, pattern, form, typography, color, technology? The list could go on. I am a communicator. Thats why I design. I get to communicate with people through my visual skills. I get to teach people, and learn from people. AND I get to create beautiful stories and communication I saw the work and was completely inspired. I saw technology, I saw the future. I had that instant feeling of teach me!!! I want to know how to do that!

I was selected to have my poster hang up at the folly for jazz singer Nnenna Freelon. Working on for a client and being able to tailor to their needs and her needs as a musician and making her music visual. Creating something for an individual turned into understanding a larger group....

I designed and researched this sub-culture for an entire semester with a partner. We learned their language, goals, and values and learned how to specically design for them.

This rolled over into our Information Architecture class. When I created an app specically for these skaters..

I am one of those people, when I see something curiosity takes over. When creating this app I knew that I wanted to take all of their values and make a coheisive application for them to use.

My professors and studio mates have taught me to be a strong professional. We get to go out into the world and talk with those we are creating for. User experience is a large role in the work we create. We got to work with the Nelson Atkins Museum for a project called Hand built. A professional in my eld. I have the condence to design and to solve problems.

Anyone will tell you, at least in the design department, that each student and teacher has the passion. We push and push because we know and fully believe that we can be successful. Thats my favorite part. I am constantly surrounded by people that have the same passion and spirit for design that I do. Being surrounded by that gives you the drive to do better and be better.

Being part of our community wether that be working with the Nelson, the Folly Theatre we strive to be new. We are asked to create things that have yet to be done. We have a expectation of ourselves to pursue a magnitude of work that is inspiring and fresh.
