ultrasound in emergency Medicine & critical care: an intensive hands-on hybrid course
Bedside ultrasound is rapidly being integrated into clinical care by emergency & critical care physicians but many physicians have not yet had access to training. Now as a special pre-session to Resuscitation 2011 you can learn sonography techniques to help improve patient care. Experience a first-class hands-on ultrasound course taught by the top ultrasound faculty from across the country. Collectively these faculty have instructed thousands of physicians and have been brought together to create this special hybrid course. In order to maximize your valuable time, youll be provided with videos of the didactic lectures in advance, to watch at home, so that you can move directly to hands-on scanning in Las Vegas.
ultrasound in emergency Medicine & critical care hybrid course assumes no prior knowledge and will start with the basics and proceed to advanced principles. Core topics include abdominal scanning (aorta, biliary tract, kidneys) echocardiography, trauma FAST exam, pelvic sonography and sonographic assisted procedures.
You will have plenty of hands-on exposure with models to reinforce the lectures and special interventional phantoms will be used to practice needle-based techniques. The session will conclude with a question & answer round table discussion on the practical and political aspects of ultrasound integration at your hospital. This course will be extremely limited in size to maintain maximum hands-on instruction so register early to guarantee your position.
Mailed in advance, each participant will receive a DVD (playable on computer) with the following:
- Digital video ultrasound lectures - SoundBytes Ultrasound Teaching Cases - Ultrasound Syllabus

Want to learn critical techniques for pediatric resuscitation? Conducted by the Pediatric Emergency Medicine Division at Loma Linda Medical Center, the Advanced Pediatric Procedures Lab has received rave reviews. This special session consists of seven stations designed for learners to review and practice life saving techniques used in the treatment of critically ill and injured children. The Advanced Pediatric Procedures Lab will provide hands-on opportunity and review of such topics as peripheral and central line insertion, intraosseous and umbilical line insertion, needle cricothyrotomy, jet ventilation, LMA intubation, and standard endotracheal intubation. There will also be areas for case discussion on pediatric trauma and rapid sequence intubation in children. Finally to integrate these critical techniques, learners can participate in mock codes run on a high-fidelity infant simulator. Space will be limited, so enroll early! Course Director: Maureen McCollough, MD, MPH, FACEP
Simulation based training has been shown to improve patient safety and enhance medical education. Institutions nationwide are utilizing highfidelity and low-fidelity simulation based training modules to train and credential medical staff and personnel. We invite you to try out the latest simulation mannequins and training tools at the Advanced Medical Technologies and Simulation stations at the conference this year. Simulation based training instructors and representatives will be available to help show you how simulation can be used to promote adaptive expertise and improve clinical practice.
Absolutely great! Ill take this back to my group and it will impact the way I practice. Good balance between clinical practicality and new research.
One of the best courses Ive attended. I have never been disappointed with CME programs by this group. Great to also have the surgical perspective. This is a fantastic conference! Funny & entertaining. Great new perspectives to take home to my ER.
