UNIT #4 PUNNETT SQUARE TEST Complete the following Punnett Squares and answer the questions.

NOTE: You MUST fill in all blanks and work out all Punnett Squares. The only exception is the heterozygous/heterozygous dihybrid cross where you must fill in the gametesbut dont need to work out the Punnett Square. Each Punnett Square is worth pointsif you leave it out, you miss points! The dihybrid boxes are drawn in for youyou must draw the monohybrid boxes for yourself). 1. In rabbits, the allele for black coat color is dominant over the allele for brown coat color. The allele for straight hair is dominant over the allele for curly hair. If you bred two rabbits , one with brown coat and curly hair, and the other homozygous for black coat and straight hair, what would the cross look like? How many of the baby bunnies would have brown coats and straight hair? How many of the baby bunnies would have brown coats and curly hair?

2.

A blue-eyed, left handed woman marries a brown-eyed, right handed man who is heterozygous for both traits. If blue eyes and left-handedness are recessive, what proportion of their children would have blue eyes and be right handed? What proportion of their children would have brown eyes and be right-handed?

In pea plants, the gene for round seed (R) is dominant, and wrinkled seeds (r) are recessive. The endosperm of the pea is also either starchy, a dominant gene (S), or waxy (s). In a cross between a heterozygous round seeded plant that is waxy, and another plant heterozygous for both traits, what is the expected phenotypic ratio?

4.

In humans, aniridia, a type of blindness, is due to a dominant allele A. Migraine headaches are due to another dominant allele M. If a man who suffers both conditions marries a woman who suffers from both (both are heterozygous), what are the chances of an offspring having both traits? What are the chances of an offspring having neither trait?

5.

fly that is has short wings (w) is crossed with a fly that is heterozygous for long wings (W).

How many of the offspring will have long wings? 6. In humans, presume brown eyes (B) are a simple dominant over blue eyes (b). If a blue-eyed woman marries a brown eyed man, and produces 3 brown eyed children and 1 blue eyed child, what are their genotypes? Womans genotype Mans genotype Tay-Sachs is a recessive genetic disease in humans. If one parent is heterozygous, and the other parent is normal, what are the chances that their children will have Tay-Sachs?

Mr. X has been accused by Miss Z of fathering her child. The childs blood type is AB and Miss Zs blood type is B (homozygous). Mr. Xs lawyers claim that he could not possibly be the father of the child, because he has type B blood (heterozygous). Prove them right or wrong by working out the Punnett Square below. What is the probability that Mr. X and Miss Z could have produced a type AB child?

9.

In cattle, the lack of horns (H) is dominant to the presence of horns (h). A bull without horns is crossed with a horned cow. Of the four offspring, one is horned and the other three lack horns. What is the bulls genotype? Garden peas can be either tall (T) or short (t). Cross 2 heterozygous plants. Work the following Punnett square problems and answer the question.

10.

What is the expected phenotypic ratio? 11. Nearsightedness is a dominant condition in humans, while normal vision is recessive. If a normalvisioned male marries a female who is heterozygous for nearsightedness, what is the expected genotypic and phenotypic ratio for the offspring?

What is the expected genotypic ratio? What is the chance of getting nearsighted child? Using the following Punnett Square, determine the expected genotypic and phenotypic ratio or percent for the F1 generation. Note: This is a case of INCOMPLETE DOMINANCE

What is the expected genotypic ratio for the F1 generation? a. 1:2:1 b. c. 3:4 d. What is the expected phenotypic ratio for the F1 generation? a. 2:1 b. c. 3:4 d. What percent of the offspring will be expected to be red? a. 25 % b. c. 75% d. What percent of the offspring will be expected to be pink? a. 50 % b. c. 75 % d.
