Volunteers Needed!

2012 Election Day Voting Survey

The Brennan Center for Justice at NYU School of Law and Common Cause are collaborating to conduct a voting survey for the 2012 election. We are looking for volunteers to help us administer this important survey at polling locations on Election Day: Tuesday, November 6, 2012. The Brennan Center and Common Cause know that America is the leading democracy in the world, and through this research project, as with all of our efforts, we are working to ensure that the nations voting system is free, fair, and accessible to all eligible voters.

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY: The 2012 Brennan Center-Common Cause voting survey aims to better understand the experiences of voters on Election Day, specifically focusing on the effect of voter ID provisions across the states; current voting laws; and obstacles that voters may encounter when trying to vote. The survey does not ask voters about their choice of candidates. ABOUT THE SURVEY: Volunteers will hand out a pencil-and-paper survey to every 8th person exiting the polls on Election Day, at selected polling locations in selected states. The survey is voluntary and confidential. Voters will fill out the survey themselves. HOW TO VOLUNTEER: Each volunteer will receive training, provided by a Brennan Center webinar, on how to administer the survey to voters and would-be voters leaving the polls. On Election Day, two volunteers will be assigned to cover each selected precinct from 7am-9am, 11am-1pm, and 5pm-7pm. Please let your Common Cause state office know which shifts you are interested in volunteering for on Election Day. Please also let your Common Cause volunteer coordinator know whether you will be walking, driving, or taking public transportation, so that you will be assigned to a polling site that is accessible to you.
