Turnovers are their vice.
Fellow Olympic Conference
teams Cherokee High School and
Seneca High School defeated the
Lenape High School Indians foot-
ball team in their first two games
of the season.
The Indians had three
turnovers against Cherokee and
two against Seneca. The Indians
only caused one turnover against
Cherokee and none during the
game with Seneca, said Head
Coach Timothy McAneney.
Besides the (Philadelphia) Ea-
gles, its tough to win that way,
he said.
Going into week three,
McAneney said he was trying to
have the team create more
turnovers on defense.
Weve been preaching for the
last two weeks (on) controlling
the football, making smart deci-
sions, he said.
Now in his second year of
coaching the team, McAneney
called the Lenape Regional High
School District unbelievable.
Theyre great schools and
great values, he said.
Being 0-2 is tough, but every
week will bring a new opportuni-
ty, McAneney explained.
We can start turning things
around again, he said. Theres
never a day off. Or a week off.
His ultimate goal for the sea-
son?
Come out swinging with every
play doing their best.
We just want to get better, he
said.
They speak of the process, aim
to get better on the practice field
and translate that to game play.
Senior captains running back
Arkemus Baskerville and line-
man Ulysses Amanfu have been
standout players this year, accord-
ing to McAneney.
Baskerville had 130 rushing

The Mt. Laurel Sun
Teachers will be evaluated dif-
ferently in Mt. Laurel this school
year.
A presentation on the McREL
Teacher Evaluation System was
conducted by Karen Andronici,
supervisor of professional devel-
opment and human resources at
the Tuesday, Sept. 25 Board of Ed-
ucation meeting.
The state Department of Educa-
tion is requiring all districts in the
state to implement the new system
by Sept. 2013, Andronici said.
There were four different eval-
uation models to choose from and
the certified staff must be trained
in one of them.
In Sept. 2013, student assess-
ment data will also become a part
of the all-electronic system.
Through the fall and winter of
2011, many staff members re-
searched the different state-ap-
proved models for consideration,
she said, and they were able to
narrow down the potential sys-
tems to two.
With feedback from the princi-
pals of the schools, the McREL
system was adopted for use.
It really is designed to be a
growth model, Andronici ex-
plained.
The system will help teachers
in a variety of ways, including re-
flection.
Theyre really a much more
active participant in the evalua-
tion system now, she said.
The procedure will be similar
to current assessments, but the
ratings will be different.
This will be a five-point rating
scale, she said.
The goal in starting the evalua-
tion system a year earlier than its
required implementation was to
work out all of the bugs while be-
coming familiar and experienced
with the model.
From Aug. 7 to Aug. 9, an evalu-
ation team met to be trained on
the system, and then from Sept. 4
to Sept. 5, the leadership team
conducted training in their home
schools.
Superintendent report
Superintendent Dr. Antoinette
Rath gave her well wishes for the
future to a long-time retiring em-
ployee of the district, Glenn
Smith, the Masonville supervisor
of Buildings and Grounds.
Smith has kept the buildings
cool in the summer and warm in
the winter, said Rath.
We will miss him dearly, she
said.
Rath also expressed her appre-
ciation to the volunteers who
helped with the Harrington sev-
enth- and eighth-grade dance.
Some 350 students attended the
recent dance, she said.
In addition, Back to School
nights were very well received.
Parents, she said, enjoyed hav-
ing the opportunity to spend
more time with their childrens
teachers.
Well look at that format for
next year, she said.

yards against Seneca, primarily
in the second half of the game.
Hes done a great job for us,
McAneney said.
There have been some injuries,
bumps and bruises, on the team.
That cant be changed, he said.
If their mistakes had been
eliminated in the first two games
of the season, the end scores may
have been closer, he said, but
you cant predict different out-
comes.
The Indians dropped their
third game of the season on Sept.
21 to Washington Township.
Control what can be controlled,
he explained, and be happy with
the results.
The coach is no stranger to the
game.
I coached at my alma mater
for nine years, he said, followed
by Holy Cross High School.
The Medford resident was
happy when the position of head
coach opened up at Lenape.
Im excited to be part of the
Lenape Regional District, he
said.

F
ewer young adults are living at
home. Why does that matter?
According to economists deci-
phering recently released Census data,
it means that the Great Recession
might be over. For real, this time.
The Associated Press talked to a
number of experts when the data came
out a couple of weeks ago. While none
were turning cartwheels over the state
of the economy, they pointed to a num-
ber of factors that indicate that things
are getting better.
We all know that, technically, the re-
cession ended a few years ago. Yet, we
all see that unemployment remains
high and the housing market has been
really slow to show dramatic improve-
ment.
The new Census data, though, high-
lights a few things that perhaps are
more meaningful when it comes to
measuring economic strength.
One of those factors is the number of
young adults living at home. When
that number goes down, as it did in
2011 to 13.6 percent from 14.2 percent,
its a good thing. The experts The AP
spoke to said the trend indicates more
younger adults are more confident
about finding a job or attending a col-
lege.
There was more good news, too.
More people were moving to new hous-
es and towns. Poverty is slowing, too.
Indeed, one look at the better than 8
percent unemployment rate snuffs any
thought of a red-hot economy. But, if
people are feeling better about the fu-
ture, and acting on those feelings by
getting back into the swing of things,
its not only a good sign, its a true
boost to the economy. They likely will
spend more, for example, which will
help to create jobs.
While Mom and Dad might have
mixed feelings about waving goodbye
to their adult children, they should
know that, according to the experts,
its a good sign. It means that, perhaps,
after years of stagnation and reces-
sion, better economic times are getting
closer.
in our opinion
Goodbye, Junior, hello, recovery
New census data indicates that the economy actually might be on the way up
So long
More parents are waving goodbye to
their adult children, who are leaving the
nest to head out on their own.
According to the experts, thats an indi-
cation that the Great Recession finally
might be over.
The following incidents are on file with
the Mt. Laurel Police Department:
